This crops up time and time again. I'm so bored of meeting men/women, being asked what I do as a day job, and get nothing but looks of disgust and condescension. More so than the unemployed or office slaves.

I'm not some fedora toting neckbeard living in my mother's basement jacking off to Linux Monthly. I work out, I eat relatively well, I play and teach guitar, go to gigs all the time, I dress well and my job pays me enough to be able to travel regularly. It allows me to pursue my interests and have a good life.

Despite this, working in IT seems to be a black mark, and I've un-pulled girls after having great conversation, kino, eye contact, jokes to be shoved away at the last minute after being asked what I do during the day. What to do? The only options seem to be "So what? I make more money than you, enjoy your unpaid internship, asshole", plain lying, or saying I teach guitar part time and sort of half assed mention that I mainly work with computers.

Mentioning that I find it interesting, and that it affords me a good quality of life hasn't gotten me anywhere.

There must be other people who also work in traditionally unattractive jobs finding themselves in a similar position?
