There's definitely a big self improvement community online which I recognize. It makes me wonder how much is actually genuinely useful to improving the man's dating prospects. That's not to say there's bad intent on those who push for it.

But my idea of self improvement is improving from one's baseline, excluding extreme outliers (ex. self made billionaires do not count) and not fixing obvious flaws. So going from a BMI of 40 as a man down to 25 and adding muscle or a fixing a really bad haircut, does not truly count. These are just deviations towards the norm, essentially the level that the average man falls on in women's eyes.

True self improvement would be adding a significantly noticeable amount of muscle (ex. modest body fat and 180lbs to 210lbs and lean) or going from an income of 60k/year to 1 million per year, just to point out some objective metrics. Obviously the list of things includes many other things.

But how much of this truly changes a guy's dating prospects, beyond just speculation. If a guy is 5/10 looks wise with an alright personality, are those extra changes actually making him appealing to lots of women who are much more attractive? What if the guy is below average or above average?
