This is Reddit. Even if you assert that the grass tends to be greener during summertime, some midwit will ask for a source.

On Reddit in particular (though increasingly true on social media in general), normal (as in normative) people are severely under-represented while neurotic and other extreme personality types are over-represented.

Add the literal teenagers and the bad faith trolls and you get the kind of population on this sub.

This also explains the over-complication of things. Neuroticism is a thing.

We live in a age where everyone in advanced industrialized societies, is very independent and individualistic. Plus we have social media and the internet to show you the next best thing.

No one wants to settle down, we all want something better. We can’t afford to own homes, have children, especially on one income.

I think once you remove the expectations of being "chosen". And actually like just experience people. It can be really interesting. Always having a rotation. Get to know people avoid putting your eggs in one basket. Focus on yourself and your own hobbies. Get to know people as they come instead of rushing to be like RELATIONSHIP! FUCK BUDDIES! Just enjoy getting to know people it can actually be fun and satisfying.

Experience people. And if something sticks it does but always have your own thing going for you

It's not complicated, but it is hard and people would rather find random studies or whatever that proves why it's not their fault they can't get a date instead of doing the correct answer and working on their social skills, body, style, and what else. The thing is finding a random study to confirm your bias takes like 5 minutes. Making yourself dateable to girls you like can take years.

It's complicated. Exceptions being if you are good looking and/or very extroverted.

But otherwise, everyone is afraid of rejection. So no one communicates. Add to this that women are more afraid of men then they are of bears, and would therefor, reasonably (since many men do legitimately suck), prefer not to communicate with strange men. And this is not even getting into people's expectations. Not just for your looks, but for how masculine or feminine you are. Or your politics. Now, what kind of relationship do you want? Etc.

This is what you get from actually functioning in the social life. You notice the little things and how people are different and that the same thing does not work for everyone and that you have to adjust how you transmit your message (the words you use) based on the recipient.

The people who overcomplicate tend to lack the social experience and thus they tend to theorise before making a move. And their anxieties make them want the thing to be perfect, else it is the end of the world. Thus they try to min-max (theory craft) to avoid failure. And i also think that those people tend to be more stem inclined which kinda makes their brain being more inclined to use stats, parameters and such. They try to use logic instead of emotion/feeling.

Okay I'm going to point out something that a lot of people seem to be missing: video games, bro.

In order to do well in modern video games, especially multiplayer games, you have to do obscure, counter-intuitive plays. This leads to a mentality of "the obvious thing is not the right thing to do" and "you have to watch hours upon hours of guides to figure out what to do". Combined with how scripted some games are, you have an entire generation of people who try to apply the same approach in real life.

Only real life doesn't work that way. The obvious thing is often the right thing to do, but the outcome is also inherently unpredictable. But then you have gamers who have spent the entirety of their teen years glued to a PC screen instead of socializing who think that they can succeed by watching a step-by-step guide and then applying it. Only it doesn't work (because real life is unpredictable). So they get upset and start cooking up even more convoluted theories to explain their apparent failure instead of moving on and trying again.

That's why people are always saying that you should go and touch some grass. The real world doesn't work like the online world.
