Absolutely. There were entire generation of such men in the past. My parents were born in the early 1920's (had me very late in life) and that was the norm. Men from that generation loved women, and believed it was their duty to care for them, provide for them, and protect them. However, they also believed that as women they were inferior to men in every respect. It's no longer ubiquitous, but that attitude survives in some to this very day.

Hostile sexism is hatred of women and the desire to oppress and mistreat them. Benevolent sexism is the belief that men have an obligation to protect and provide for women because women are incapable of taking care of themselves without men.

Studies have shown that women actually prefer men with benevolent sexist traits. Obviously they do not like hostile sexist traits though.

I would say it’s possible.

The black pillers and incels here seem to hate women for anything they do, like when they partner with good Chadly men they hate them for having standards, and when they partner with weak pathetic men, they hate them for taking advantage of those men. They seem to want to just put women in the breeding cages regardless, and not let them have any control over their own lives. They seem to hate to see women having fun. I would say this is misogyny as they hate them for existing as a woman.

Sexism on the other hand would be things like not wanting women in charge because they don’t trust their capability to not ruin things for others by their insistence on safetyism and other common themes like being anti-nuclear energy, wanting gun control, and raising taxes and introducing kindergarten morality into any space that they’ve forced themselves into.

Well I guess that’s to say if you are misogynist you are probably sexist, but if you are sexist you might not necessarily be misogynist.

Lots of people have protective and paternalistic instincts because they love women, especially women in their life. That doesn’t mean their well intentioned actions can’t ultimately hurt women. I skipped a grade in school and could have done early college admission at 16, my mother supported it, my father said absolutely not. It was definitely because I was a girl, I had a completely different set of rules than my brothers. I definitely called him sexist at the time. We will never know if it helped or hurt me, can’t turn back the clock.

Yes. Most cultures are actually sexist but not necessarily mysogynistic. They see women as having fixed social roles, but they don't necessarily want to hurt women.

It’s definitely possible to be sexist but not misogynistic, that would be benevolent sexism. However, it’s impossible to be misogynistic and not sexist (unless you’re actually a misanthrope and hate men equally perhaps?).

Most men are sexist, either leaning to the benevolent or misogynist side. So generally, I believe it’s in women’s best interests to date (slightly) benevolently sexist men.

If a man has any opinions or thoughts or acts in any way that women don't like, then it is misogynistic by default.

Mean while women can openly degrade men and hate men, and it is never misandry because either midandry don't real, or it is by definition impossible to be sexist against men according to modern feminism.

Given that they are both generally defined as "prejudice against women" you'd have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to make that possible.

It would require using a narrow and inaccurate description of each word that excludes their existing denotative and connotative overlap solely to prevent it from being a circle.

Supposing you define misogyny as only hatred/ discrimination with no prejudice

and sexism as only prejudice

I suppose you could say they don't overlap

but realistically:

that's not how they are defined
How would one hate and discriminate against someone without first making a judgement about them (aka prejudice)? It's literally impossible.

short answer is yes, totally possible. you can love women and yet have sexist beliefs about women. You can utterly hate women as a category, and yet believe that things ought be fair nonetheless.

misogyny is 'hatred of women' (terms have real meanings), sexism is far more about modes of thinking that that 'unfair' towards one group or another, depending on how that sexism is flavored.

those are logical possibilities, they could be in other words entirely separate, no overlap whatsoever.

but of course in reality in the overwhelming majority of cases, there are degrees of overlap.

There are gender differences that are easy to spot yet there is no 'moral flaw' in them. Ie.

women have better understanding of social settings and better understanding of emotional states of other people, it is just a fact
men are majority of top and bottom performers academically, so most likely top engineers and scientists would always be male
women are more agreeable and tend to adapt better to new social environments. Some men argue that is due to favorable bias, but i doubt that tbh. Men do not like leaving their comfort zones. Adapting is pretty easy - but men are too stubborn to adjust their behavior, way they dress etc.

Example of non sexist misogyny would be requesting women to split the bill and make everything 50 50. Requiring women to do all the physically difficult things men do in exactly the same amounts.

As I understand it they aren't the same. Could be some overlap. Sexism can be a benevolent superiority/arrogance, while Misogyny is naked hatred of women. Its a pity the usage of one has come to mean the other.

I just want the most optimal/peak things/situations to happen.

I want to follow logic/formulas.

I don’t use emotions to justify my decisions in life

And I don’t use emotions as a basis for my logic or existence
