If a man mentions the word "Alpha" my immediate animal-nerd instinct is to explain the faults in the wolf study or go into how our closest primate relatives, the bonobos, are matriarchal, and the other closest ones, the chimpanzees, are patriarchal but are also sociopaths who rip off each others' dicks for fun and shouldn't generally be emulated. My actual socially-anxious response is usually just to ignore him the same way I'd ignore an annoying child.

If a man displays the body language associated with "alpha" (overly-confident, manly-man, clearly has a gym-addiction, dominant, etc), my usual instinct is to feel like he may be a threat and back away. Not that he is a threat, mind you- I won't treat him badly, but I will put some physical and emotional distance between us just in case.

I like men who are humble. I also don’t think women categorize men in terms of “alpha” and “beta” in their heads mostly because it’s cringe but also because it sounds toxic.

Let's assume we're just talking about a traditionally good-looking, put together dude, who exhibits overt masculinity/boyishness with confidence. I am not adding in anything about being a bully or cruel or a fuckboi.

I would say such a man is typically received with lots of blushing, glances/looking away quick, playing with hair, girls making excuses to be near him. If they're talking as a group, I would say lots of smiling, blushing, laughing/giggling, compliments, perhaps suggestive comments from the more bold women, consistent eye contact broken up by looking at his lips, and generally a body language of "turning towards" and being "open".

Compared to say a dude who is bland, not put together, more on the shy or less overtly masculine side, and low confidence. I would say this dude doesn't receive almost any of the above, but rather would receive at most polite smiles, perhaps cold indifference, quickly broken eye-contact, and body language which is "turning away" and "closed". If they're interacting in a more communal way, again, same body language, but the women may begin to warm to the blander dude and speak to him like they do each other.

I don’t categorize men in black and white terms like ‘alpha’ and ‘beta’ but if I’m in the presence of an attractive male I don’t give out a vibe anymore because I’m married but I will size him up when he’s not looking. For sure I will do that.

When I was single I would actively listen to what he was saying so that I can insert myself into a dialogue with him. Make more eye contact, ask questions to keep the conversation going, smile more.

And, of course, size him up when he’s not looking.

What do you mean by alpha male? It has many different possible meanings ranging from "man who a woman has a crush on" to "man who calls himself alpha because he spent too much time on the internet".

I would need a definition...but based on how TRP describes them, I usually don't notice them. Men who aren't my type aren't even on my radar.
