Once a cheater, always a cheater. It’s a generalization, but it’s almost always true.

Full-on sexual cheating takes work. There’s a long series of choices leading up to it: flirting, secrecy, planning, lying. A person could turn away at any point. Cheating is never accidental. It’s premeditated betrayal.

A lot of cheaters do it because the betrayal itself gives them a sexual thrill. It’s a kink built around deception and risk. You can’t build a stable life with someone who gets off on violating trust. On top of the emotional betrayal, there’s real-world risk to your health. For men, there's also the possibility of being tricked into raising another man’s child.

That said, there are exceptions. People can get caught up in the moment, or blindsided by a situation they never expected to be vulnerable to. I could forgive something like that only if the person took full responsibility and committed to clear, concrete changes. They would need to prevent the preconditions for cheating ever happen again.

In general? The pattern holds. People don’t “accidentally” cheat. They choose it, step by step.

You want to keep fucking? Sure, whatever. But there is 0 option for an LTR. You've shown yourself to be untrustworthy and willing to betray, so now anything is fair game when it comes to you.

A cheating woman who wants to return to you essentially believes that only having sex with you is not the basis of your relationship. Doesn't matter if she cheated "on accident", "got carried away", or was "feeling neglected." She doesn't believe that your relationship requires her to only have sex with you.

Is she going to cheat on you again? It's possible she won't. But she will not feel obligated to uphold her end of the sexual relationship, which means that her sexuality will essentially become your responsibility. Considering the amount of effort necessary to manage a relationship even with a woman who doesn't see you as responsible for her sexuality, it would simply not be worth the effort to have to manage her sexuality for the rest of your life.

Cheating is not just a single lie or betrayal, it's lots of them. The planning, the deception, the lies. Going forward, why should I ever again trust the word of a proven liar? Additionally, she risked my health by potentially passing on a STI to me without my knowledge. There is also the possibility of her becoming pregnant and trying to pass off some other man's baby as mine.

If she cheats, we're done. No forgiveness, no second chances, no therapy. Zero contact.

Yup. She was my first. She cheated on me while on a semester abroad. Took her back. She cheated on me two years later. Then she acted confused when I broke up with her. I didn't do her or myself any favors. Early life lessons. I generally believe it's good to go out and get your heart broke, but even I'll admit that this was an unforced error.

I've been cheated on and forgiven. But, I'm not the marrying kind, and I don't believe in soul mates or Santa Claus or whatever it is people believe in. The people in my dating pool aren't perfect. And they aren't always perfect matches. But they are still worthwhile, because there kinda isn't such a thing as perfect, at least not for me. I was upset about the cheating, but I feel like they still treated me with respect when we were together. People will say that's impossible. Perhaps the difference, for me, is their cheating was opportunistic and physical rather than an emotional affair. These were extreme extroverts, very high libido, who partied more than just occasionally. Basically a recipe for cheating. If you are truly shocked that someone like that cheated then I question your good sense.

It’s equivalent to breaking up. Some people get back together afterwards, some people don’t.

Personally, I can sleep with people other than who I’m dating, and have it not affect me at all. I can continue on dating that person. They wouldn’t notice a drop in my libido, a change in my mood, or a difference in how I treat them. Not everyone is like that.

I had a girlfriend who broke up with me because i was jealous of a guy friend of hers. Less than 2 days later she was making out with him and had me outside to pick her up oblivious of the situation.

Not exactly cheating, but since we did eventually get back together it does feel like it.

If no dicks were taken, then it's possible and a lot more likely than if some were. E.g. if it was chatting but nothing physical happened or if it was with a person with no penis, then forgiving her could be discussed.

I did, and we've worked out since it happened.

My girlfriend was on an incorrect mental health medication, and was acting out in various ways, including going on a date with someone else, but since she took time off and got her meds switched, we've been going very strong.

We're it not for that aspect, I would've left her. I didn't demand any changes, but she is way more into me since her mental health has improved.

I do not care about sexual cheating, as long as this doesn't negatively affect the relationship and emotional bond. I have an open relationship, so there is legal having sex with others anyway. If an illegal incident happens, that would not be a huge deal for me. I have cheated, i have been in love with other women. Didn't change a thing about my relationship with my gf. Cheating is not the problem. If she wants to end the relationship because she wants to have a relationship with someone else, then this could happen with or without the cheating.

I understand that we cannot always act in the way we want to or promised. My morals shift depending on the state i am in. My ability to control my emotions or my behavior shifts depending on the state i am in. My ability to assess risks highly depends on the state i am in. Of course it's the same for her. I think she will make an effort to follow our rules and when she doesn't, it will be because she couldn't, in the moment, or she was making a decision while being in a different state of mind, where this decision seemed right.
