I think we just happen to live in a temporary lull. Born too late for the healthy relationship marriage 1.0 era, but maybe not born too early for the AI driven, sentient, loving and respectful VR spouse connected to a fleshlight era.

Interesting, but I think most people (here on the internet, social media, and in the wider media) mistakenly think that happiness is a goal to have in itself. I think that’s a very unfortunate belief born out of a society that lacks any coherent message around truth or principles and replaces meaning with consumerism and solipsism. Humans usually don’t get into relationships because of happiness. Maybe they experience happiness at first, but they certainly don’t stay because they are pursuing happiness. It’s due to many factors, including love, shared goals, worldview, etc. When everyone is told that the best thing is to pursue happiness and self interest, and that anyone that doesn’t provide “value” to you can be cast aside, then of course we get increasing levels of loneliness, sex becomes rarer, connection is superficial, and relationships last shorter and shorter lengths of time because no one wants to struggle, they just want the dopamine hit immediately. We’re being conditioned to seek out faster and faster and more immediate pleasure. Relationships are hard, require effort even when you don’t feel like it, and can be sad and frustrating. Not conducive to finding immediate happiness or “living your truth”. We are slowly changing to devalue the human condition, and are putting more value on objects, money, and technology

This article specifically discusses women working and doing second shift parenting AND having to do all the emotional labor of the family, while men skate by with “helping” and “babysitting” their own kids. It’s the imbalance that creates the decreased happiness.

It is completely untrue that “no one is happy right now”. There is no support for that at all.

I am happier now divorced and single parenting than when I was married.

I think that your friend was right when they said that women's standards have evolved. But I disagree with the idea that men can't keep up. Women are looking for men to have a different skill set than they used to have, and that skill set can be learned in adulthood. But it's a choice of whether or not you want to grow and learn and improve yourself.

Everyone's happiness is their personal responsibility. It is only your right to see to it that you are enjoying your life.

The women who are unhappy with dating and their relationships are so out of their own choices. It is their problem and no one else's. No matter how much they blame men or the society.

The men who are unhappy in dating are so because they expect more from women, from life than what they are getting.

I really do not see how women could be the most unhappy.Everyday is a wonderful assortment of 100s and 1000s of suitors vying for her attention If they can’t get Chad to leave his wife and 3 kids for her, then she is probably sexually lackluster. Meanwhile, back at the Hall of the Average Man on OLD. One match per year and no date or conversation is the standard.

Men severely under-report their emotional states. Suicide stats don't continue to drastically favor men for no reason. Everybody is unhappy but there's no reliable evidence that women are 'more unhappy' than men which isn't derived from self-identified survey-type studies. It's not that these studies are useless but it's important to remind yourself that, even anonymously, fewer genuinely depressed men will report being depressed than genuinely depressed women and fewer still will ever seek help or treatment.
