When my ex moved out of my home in July, I hopped right on the dating apps. I had some fun dates, sex a few times, but overall, it wasn't really good, a lot of flakes and ghosting, a lot of just mindless swiping. I longed for what I had in a stable marriage (until she decided to cheat).

I ended up deleting all the apps for the new year 2026. I wanted to focus on finalizing the divorce chapter.

Focused on the gym, therapy, work, friends/family etc. I felt good but of course I still felt lonely and saddened but this way of life.

Divorce finalized late March. Still off the apps.

There is a girl at a lunch spot I go to periodically that I always thought was cute. I remember the last time I went there I noticed she was eying me up. I took note, but didn't say anything.

Two weeks ago I went back there. It was perfect, she was the only person there. I started conversation and it all felt smooth and natural. I took my shot and asked if she'd want to go out one night. She agreed. We exchanged numbers. It was a huge confidence boost for me since I hadn't cold approached a woman since before my ex wife.

I text her later that night. She responds and we have some light banter. She told me she was quite busy with multiple jobs when I talked to her in person. She told me her upcoming week was booked. I suggested the following week (which would be this week) and Tuesday (tomorrow). She agreed.

I know not to chase or get into pen-pal territory before the first date. I let about 2 days go by and send a little "how's your week" type of text. She responds much later. No follow up question for me.

This pattern continues. Then, last night I text "hey you are we still good for Tuesday? I have a fun spot in mind". No response. Dead. Nothing.

Ahhh it sucks, this one hits harder than the online dating ghosts since I thought I had this one locked in due to the in-person approach. The rejection hits hard for me since it makes me reflect back on when I was happy in my marriage and didn't have to worry about the current dating scene. Pissed off at the ex for putting me here.

This was just a basic rant, just curious if you guys dealt with similar situations and feelings of rejection and hopelessness afterward.

I won't be going back to the lunch spot.
