They LIKE that it's cringy. "Spinning plates" is called that, because if you just called it "casual dating", they couldn't feel like they've Cracked A Secret Code and Discovered A Dating Hack. They can't call "passing shit tests" "having boundaries" because then they'd have to admit their shrink was right (also, half of the alleged shit tests are just flirting and regular conversation).

You're committing a logical fallacy, akin to the True Scottsman.

Just because you argue that a person of a certain qualification, in your case 'high-brow', wouldn't use the phrases you use, doesn't change the meaning or value of those phrases.

You're trying to disqualify the terms because it doesn't meet your level of context or description, but that is on you not the users of the phrases.

In fact, I'd bet based on your attempt at describing them, you don't actually understand their origin, as your euphemisms are not accurate.

BUT I must say I dont really believe in the whole idea behind shit tests. In my personal experience with women. If a woman likes you shes not going to throw any tests at you. She doesnt really want you to fail anyway. If she doesnt then passing some arbitrary "test" isnt going to make any difference. Im sure conducting yourself in a certain way can be advantageous in different circumstances. But the whole thing is blown way out of proportion.

Most of these terms are more descriptive from a utility standpoint. "Spinning plates" is actually one of the better terms I've ever heard of for what it is. It's unique, it's different, and the name catches on in a way that even if you hate it, the idea spreads.

Have you ever seen plate spinning? They get them up on the sticks and run around putting a little maintenance spin on the ones that need it. Some of them wobble and fall off, while others are getting up and running. You can only be in one place at any given time so you're running around putting just the right amount of maintenance to get several good ones going at the same time.

Dating several women simultaneously is not easy and requires a lot of the same sort of multitasking, juggling, and maintenance. Plate spinning is a perfect analogy to the level of skill, effort, and attention it requires. Date women to your personal capacity and you'd feel the same way.

Your alternative is equally dumb. This isn't academia. It's an internet forum. We aren't here to speak with scholars, just your average joes.

I agree with the principle but I disagree with the direction you're trying to take it in.

If we're going to re-name "passing shit tests", we should be bringing the idea back down to earth and describing it the way a normal (neurotypical) and socially fluent person would describe it, i.e. "teasing" or "witty banter". That's ultimately what it is. The people who feel like calling them "shit tests" kind of make me cringe because using that term alone implies that those people feel personally attacked by completely normal teasing.

Same goes for other terms. If you want to get rid of the term "spinning plates", just call it "casual sex" or "casual dating".

Honestly most rp phrases are nothing new. Back in my day we had different common terms. Bachelor instead of mgtow. Casual instead of spinning plates, etc.

I don't care for the new terms myself, but I recognize the good marketing. It's different. Catchy.
