There's quite a bit of misinformation (shocking) going around about the RP idea of the Wall, so I thought I should take some time to clarify what exactly we're talking about here.

The Wall is based on the fairly straight forward idea that all other things remaining approximately constant, women become less attractive as they age, or to state it another way, her sexual market value (SMV) declines. The logical extension of this is that a woman's SMV will at some point bottom out, and she will no longer have the advantages she once had in dating by virtue of being a young, attractive woman. The bottoming out point is called the Wall.

Addressing a few common questions/criticisms:

  • The Wall is not a fixed time point for all women. If you're genetically gifted (Angelina Jolie/Jennifer Aniston/etc.) you'll be attractive well into advanced middle age. If you're genetically unfortunate, you may hit the Wall far earlier in life.

  • While aging changes Male SMV as well, men aren't considered to hit the wall because young men don't experience nearly the same SMP advantages young women do.

  • Hitting the Wall is unavoidable, but the speed with which one hits it is. A woman who takes care of herself will obviously have a much more gradual descent than one who does not.

I hope that clears this up somewhat. Feel free to discuss.
