Lately there has been a lot of posts on men having a harder time being attractive than woman, and looks don't matter to women, etc. At the core of these issues is the difference in which attractiveness is interpreted. This comment sums it up very well:

Women just don't act on it like men do: if a guy sees a girl he thinks is a fox he's more likely to feel compelled to go talk to her and see what's up. If a girl sees a guy she thinks is a fox he'll probably never find out. I think guys are good looking all the time but I've never once acted on it or told a guy I thought he was hot... why would I? I don't want to actually fuck him.

When a man thinks a woman is attractive, the man wants to have sex with the woman. When a woman thinks a man is attractive, it doesn't mean she wants to have sex with him. Additionally:

No, it just means I find them sexually appealing. That's different than actively desiring them. I've found lots of strangers sexy in my time but never fucked or wanted to fuck a single one.

In general, when man ask for dating advice, or advice on how to be more attractive, they are asking of how they can change so women will want to have sex with them. Women tell about what makes a man attractive, but that doesn't mean they want to have sex with him. Therefore to men, female dating advice is useless.
