The "No More Page Three" campaign has finally won its attack against free speech and the patriarchy by forcing The Sun newspaper to drop their page-3 topless models.

For those who don't know, The Sun newspaper started featuring topless models on Page 3 of each edition in 1970. The pictures are exactly what you expect. A nice looking girl, usually bearing breasts, amidst the news, articles and whatever else.

This has been common knowledge in the UK since anyone can remember. We all know what newspaper and what page you could find these in. And it's not as if these are lewd and demeaning. You can google for examples if you wish. They were generally tasteful and as one commentator put it, lads wanted "a bit of news, a bit of sport and a bit of girl".

Now, in my opinion as a metal musician, if you know that there is something you yourself do not wish to see, or you don't wish your dependents to see, you simply don't look. We all know what page 3 of The Sun has (or had), so if you didn't want to see it, don't buy the paper. Simply purchase an alternative.

Yet it's rather sad that a feminist movement has had their voices more than heard and demanded the removal of Page 3 women from the newspaper.

Now maybe times have moved on. I mean, the Internet is a thing I grant you. But this prospect of people being mortally offended by a topless model which can be very ably and easily avoided is hypocritical. There are plenty Calvin Klein male models sporting underwear in almost every female magazine, even firemen calendars being given away with Christmas editions only two months ago (I forget which publication, one of my plates had it).

I just felt this was relevant.
