I feel this, im also a student and last week I resorted to the nuclear option and deleted all the games off of my computer. My productivity is definitely up and I'm doing more homework but it's a slow come up as I definitely find myself hungry for that kind of stimulation. It's scary how much of an effect it had on me.

One thing to keep in mind is red pilling isn't about sacrifice persay but learning about womens shit and knowing how to date around it. In that sense, you don't necessarily need sacrifice of something like the game. To do so would be give up a part of your identity, your passion, to date women and that can backfire. Besides getting a job its doing whatever you want to do. There is plenty to do outside of the college from bars, concerts, events, parks, camps, etc and plenty of people you can invite out with. You don't have to live by other whims and sort of be the guy who is the party who is the event and will always get laid as such or will always have a group of friends about.

There are plenty of trips to be had with friends, plenty of partying to do, and the challenge of not having money is fun. Plenty can be done for free only with gas or cover charge. Get a job and for this glorious moment you have, use it to have a great time. More money will come one day with a full time job, but with that job you will be locked down 8 hours a day and time to do things will disappear.

Pick hobbies and give them 20 hours. No pussying about, really commit to it for that time. You learn a ton of basics in 20 hours. Do enough different things and you'll become way more interesting. Don't be afraid to ditch something after having an honest go and deciding it isn't for you. You don't owe anyone there anything.

Also read. Classics, biographies of famous men, history. Spending time in settings with different cultural norms will help you to appreciate why they exist and to stop identifying with current thinking by default.

Commit to your personal health. Investments into it pay off since good health is not something you can buy. Plumb the depths of the internet, read forums and take a lot of notes. Try things. Get in tune with how your body feels so you can decide when something is working for you.

Spend time making things. Anything is fine, as long as you are being creative.

I definitely think you are a Red Piller, in the core sense of self-improvement. Dont forget about science though, it works in your favor: learning new habits is way easier than dropping old ones (comfort zone). You should see this as “faking it till you make it”.

You’re 21! If you can keep up not gaming too much (sometimes it helps setting a quota, like masturbating to feed the geese) by 22, you are lightyears ahead of yourself last year. Having a relapse of a 8-hour/day habit might happen though, in that case dont be too hard on yourself. Change is hard, thats why almost nobody can do it. So be damn proud, but recognize that you will feel even prouder the closer this comes to a lifestyle.

A point where you dont need to check this forum for yourself, cuz life is going well. Lifting and game should be part of a daily routine, 2nd nature. As in: if you see a girl you must have the same aching to talk to her as you would want to play fortnight when you see other people play it or are bored. And if you miss a workout, you feel bad. Because that has become your comfort zone (to a degree).

I think your biggest ‘weakness’ of gaming can actually be a great (emotional) guide for measuring how you develop your new habits, in that sense. So dont shun the experience and drop it in a blackhole, but embrace your past, because it will show you how strong you have been, are and will be, in the future. If you succeed in achieving this goal. No one can take that level of self-confidence away from you, because no one can go to the gym or improve your game for you. It’s all you.

In my quest to become a stronger version of myself, I too realised that I had to cut off myself from mindlessy gaming hours at a stretch and so I stopped. Right now the only thing you should do and this is what I'm doing too is focusing on how to maximize your income. Ask yourself what you should do continuously starting now for a year or too that would make you really good at something and hence, employable. College is fine and if you have a related skill in mind that uses your college education thats even better.

I'm practicing 0.5 h dopamine window at the end of the day. I can do whatever I want during that time, like play vidya. But no sooner than just 0.5 h before sleep. Works perfect for me, because it keeps my monkey motivated throught the whole day as it knows that at the end there is some reward, but not instant gratification kind of. And I play these chill single player games that you can just save and drop after 0.5 mark, multiplayer ones just force you to stay for the duration of match you usually cannot chose, and punish for leaving earlier.

Well done. As a 37 yo guy who played his first game on the Commodore 64 at the age of 5, I have done the same thing a number of times in the past. Uninstalled WoW, uninstalled StarCraft 2, etc. So for me the pattern was not playing games for a good time. But slowly spending more time on social media and web browsing. Watch out for that.

Eventually gaming returned, I just love gaming so much. So yeah I'm into Fortnite but I definitely can't play 8+ hours a day (now do I like to). Gaming will always be my guilty pleasure I guess.

Also do something with your computer interest. Remove Windows, learn Linux, for example. If you feel like playing games, code instead. It can be similar in terms of what feedback it gives, though it requires more willpower obviously. The difference being, it's useful to you and your career. Or pick up a creative hobby, preferably something you can monetize eventually.

You need to do something with your down time, when you don't necessarily have the energy to do what needs to be done. Something to fall back on when you're at risk of falling back into bad habits.

For me, there's so much useful shit you can learn on Youtube alone. And watching it casually is no harder than playing games. Metalworking, woodoworking, cooking, electronics, 3D modelling, smithing, sales, piloting, whatever. Not saying you're going to become a pro just by watching, but you will find something that will spark your interest enough that putting energy into it will be easy.

First of all, great that your decision has made you feel better. If you really feel that those games were a waste of time and were holding you back, great!

Though I have to say, I've heard the "ditch videogames" advice around here more often, and I'm not really sold on it. I've been a gamer since I was 8 and consider it my primary hobby. I consider it part of me, part of my person and part of who I am. I definitely don't consider it a negative part in my life, but of course everything should be done in moderation.

I've had a period in my life where I didn't need a job, so I chose not to have one. Instead I spent all my time online, playing games and even had a small (but somewhat successful) YouTube channel at some point. I kept that up for almost 7 years before I realized that was really not going anywhere. By the time I was 30 I barely came outside, barely spoke to people, became socially isolated and had a hole on my resumé the size of the Grand Canyon. Something had to change, I could see that for myself, so I started forcing myself to go outside and do other things. Started going to the gym more regularly, and eventually my best friend managed to get me a job with the company he works at. Going from all the free time in the world to spending 8 hours a day in an office is a major turn-around, let me tell you.

I still play video games, because I just fucking love them. Anyone who says it's childish is, quite frankly, wrong. It's only the largest entertainment industry on the planet and some people will actually try to convince you you're not supposed to like it.

My advice would be, like I said, moderation. Also prioritize the things in your life. Games are fun, but they should not be number one.

College is at the top. You're in there for a reason, so make it count. Reserve time for study and make sure you have something to show for your college years at the end of the road.
Go to the gym at least once a week. But since you apparently have time to spare, make it multiple times a week.
Get a job. Even if it's just flipping burgers a few hours a week after class. It's a nice supplement income, it gets you out of the house and it provides social interaction.
While you're in college, try to get involved in social events going on around you. Have fun with friends, go to a party if that's your thing.
Once you've sorted all of the above, you'll be left with a few hours of free time each day. Those can be spent gaming to your heart's content (or whatever else you fancy doing).

Oh, and make sure you get enough sleep. Find out how much sleep you need and teach yourself to go to bed at the same time every day (excluding weekends). Nothing burns motivation away like being tired as fuck every day.

For me it was background noise. I got really sick in 2014, was bedridden for months and thats when I discovered Game Grumps. And then watched basically every video they had.

I realized lately that Ive gotten into the habit of waking up, throwing on a youtube playlist of nonsense to play in the background, and then going about my day half focused on everything that im doing.

I have a lot of irrationality to work out of my psychology. My fear of failure manifested as inaction because if you dont start something, you cant fail it. Then, to override the self loathing that comes from watching myself do nothing, I somehow convinced myself that having a bunch of background noise going, while I did other shit was "multitasking" and that I was being "so productive" In reality I was. Only the product was stupidity. I was really fucking good at generating stupidity.

The first day I tried to go without watching anything on youtube or having any background noise going, I had really high anxiety levels the whole day. Im convinced that the majority of people are just addicted to stimulus as a means of further perpetuating their denial and keeping themselves from having to face the crushing reality that they are worthless and only have themselves to blame.

Imagine all the things I might have done if I had allowed myself to be bored. If there is not first a problem, then there will be no need for a solution. Boredom is a problem that we need creativity to solve. At least until you have an internet connection, or a television, a smartphone, video games, junk food, etc.

Then we consider that the brain is a muscle too. The more you lift, the better your muscles are at lifting. The more you stave off that crucial moment of reflective, contemplative and creative boredom by scrolling through your twitter feed, the better you are at distracting yourself from your reality

You could monetize your gameplay instead of quitting. If you're a gamer for life you can easily monetize yourself playing the newest games, making video guides, shilling out merch.

It's good passive income and a career if you're into it.

By no means should you ever pursue professional gaming, even if you're the top .01% it will consume ALL your time and leave you empty once the hype dies.

While video games are a consumerist, aka, beta activity, making money off of it (and there's lots to be made.) pays huge dividends in the long run. If you aren't charismatic you'll never make it, but we're long past being timid boys.

People like GLO could massively grow their audience by simply playing whatever's popular and talking about red pill topics.

Edit: I could make a pretty huge topic about the subject of video game monetization. I ran a network of 300k y/t subs and about 1k twitch viewers on the regular. My old account was heavily doxxed, hacked, harassed, etc by a group of feminists, blue pillers, and "anti-bully" squads of sorts. It became a huge problem in my personal life to the point where when the swat team killed my dog I called it quits. In the process of starting it all up again but the passive income just wasn't worth dealing with a constant barrage of internet raiders. Once I get going again there will be no webcam, no leaking of personal info, etc. Also in my ending state a lot of my videos were getting demonetized from being flagged by leftists and twitch had banned me a few times, claiming I was being sexist. And yes while it was easier to start 12 years ago there's no better time to start than now. Anyone with disposable income and a few free hours 2-3 times a week can easily rise up and make around $4,000 a month passively without merch or sponsorships, just ad revenue and donations.
