You’re so right. I needed someone to shake me and tell me this 5 years ago when I was waiting for my ex to propose to me. I finally figured out I was a forever girlfriend and left before we hit 6 years. Every special day, I thought it might be the moment he would make that commitment until one argument we had woke me up. Testosterone is irrepressible when it sees something it really wants. If he wants you; the thought of another man getting you will drive him crazy. Remember, what's most important to men in life is competing with and beating other males.

So, if months and years go by and he's still, "meh" about marrying you: it is very meaningful. It means you are a placekeeper. A second income to make his life easier and sweeter. An emotional support system when he needs to vent about work. An easy source of sex (in conjunction with pornography). Someone to do at least half of the household chores.

Until he meets someone who knocks his socks off: this is almost always a woman he finds incredibly sexually alluring. And if she is hard to get, and uncompromising (a "bitch"), even better. Nothing men like better than a good, dumbass chase.

If he resigns himself to marry the placekeeper; the entire marriage will have that atmosphere. You were what he settled for, and every aspect of your life will reflect that.
