As someone who is in the situation of the boys, I would really love to weigh in on this issue. I happened to work in a Fortune 500 company till January as a trainee. I happened to have 5 other trainees in my batch and I was the only male in there.

I could not complete my electronics engineering degree due to personal financial issues so I dropped out till I could save up and complete it. Of all the 6 people, I was the only person to have worked in a few major projects for their digitisation solutions. I was the only person involved in a technical role; others were more into marketing (already saturated). By the end of our contracts in this January, I had three major projects in my belt, recommendation from three of my bosses and two indirect business leaders, and appreciation letter from a partner company sent to my boss for my good work.

They had hired the others to promote diversity in workplace. They said they will get back to me with a position. I still have not gotten a call back.

Noone encourages boys to opt STEM. They themselves opt STEM for better career opportunities. I study programming because I want to do it for myself and career. I'm sure every other boys in STEM come with this same intrinsic motivation.

Seriously. It's 30 years of staring at the same desk and the same computer screen, doing work for people who don't understand what you are doing. It isn't complex or difficult all THAT often (if it was that would be interesting). Most of the time you aren't allowed to make things better or improve your platform because the business needs feature work done, then they complain about performance when you aren't given the time to upgrade to something more scalable, or downtime when you have to do big deployments because you haven't been given the chance to work on your pipelines.

On top of that your job involves sitting in a chair for extended periods. If you don't actively take the time to get up and get physical, then your body literally deteriorates. It's REALLY bad for your health. It's particularly bad for men, who are sort of designed to be very physical. If you are a programmer or work in software, you NEED to get in the gym five days a week to lift and run, and put special effort into your diet to stay properly healthy.

Men go into the field because it is well paid. Most men ask themselves this question: "What is the highest paid field that I am both mentally and physically capable of, and can tolerate doing for an entire lifetime?" Women are more likely to consider what they "want" to do (which to me mostly looks arbitrary anyways).

Men aren't encouraged to go into software development by much more than the potential pay scale. You can get a job with an associate's or bachelor's, and sometimes even less. You don't need twelve years of schooling like a doctor or lawyer. The physical risk is lower than on an oil platform or fishing boat. The economic risk is lower than that of a business owner. We pick it because it beats driving a big rig, it's less mind numbingly boring than being an accountant, it pays better than almost everything else, and your chances of getting hired are really pretty good if you don't totally suck.

That post was about a boot camp for poor families and the OP said they would only donate for girls to go not boys. The OP was a female programmer that was sick of the boys club in programming and said it was up too her to change it. Oh and it was a church thing.

The only way feminists can think of to encourage women into STEM fields is by encouraging women to step over men/boys and promoting elitism and narcissism from women in STEM(which was already pretty strong). Never mind addressing the countless issues of anti-male shaming/vilification(which is stronger than ever with the feminist narrative), male virgin/nerd shaming(which dehumanizes/objectifies men, and STEM field as a whole) or female entitlements(not wanting to work in isolation, not wanting to work jobs that are tedious/boring, not wanting to be around "unmasculine/meek" men, not wanting to be viewed as "nerdy", etc) that actually are to blame for the disparity between men and women in STEM.

They can't even fathom the possibility that men in STEM are not actually pushing women out, nor have they ever sought to push women out(quite the opposite, actually). They can't even fathom that women might be the problem, or might just not have any interest in STEM fields because they promote a lot of unhealthy attitude towards all things nerdy and idealize incredibly destructive views towards STEM fields(most of which are entirely based on sexist gender roles and expectations, which are still prominently imposed on men). They can't even fathom that the toxic and dehumanizing ways in which women typically act towards nerdy men, or react to socially isolated/inexperienced men, could be a major factor in women not wanting to enter those fields.

Help people with reduced opportunities! It should be more simple. The rich girls will be fine one way or the other. They will get sent to a fancy college and end up with a solid income with or without the camp. Sending a poor person, male or female, could be the only shot they have.

I am a man that works in a female majority profession (like 95%+) . Still waiting for my hand up and my parade, and the tearful campaign to encourage males into this line of work. My bosses have almost all been women, most were emotionally abusive and liars. I was unemployed for over a year up until recently. I say this not to get sympathy but to undermine the feminist narrative that men always have it easy.

I wanted to be a STEM guy, a computer programmer. It's incredibly difficult at high levels. I could understand the concepts but between my low patience and bad instruction it just wasn't going to happen. You need a particular kind of focus and ability and math skills that most people don't have and never will have. You need to sit down in one place most of the day and work on solving intricate puzzles with no guaranteed success. The few that do have this rare combination of abilities and traits, are almost always men. In my opinion, they are also usually on the autistic spectrum. Some things are just how they are regardless of our feelings of should be or shouldn't. This was referring to dedicated software engineers. There are plenty of less demanding coding jobs that don't require the dedication and ability I was talking about. But editing javascript on an existing webpage isn't the STEM grand prize the feminists demand for all pussy owners.

Should a female programmer be allowed to be disrespected and discriminated against? Of course not. Should they be coddled? No. It will just enable weakness which will ultimately contribute to the perception they got an unfair boost.

Feminism doesn't care about equality or fairness or reality. It's girls rule, boys drool at this point with a lot of fancy words on top.

Feminists are fine with women having high paid office jobs while men take the dangerous, dirty, and bloody work. But if you set the air conditioning too low it's sexist because someone's blouse was thin.

Meanwhile women in other countries can't leave the house without permission and an escort. But that's fine with feminism because (citation needed).

Dude. People just simply don’t understand that men and women are different. Men are more likely to study a profession that makes a better living, regardless of passion. This is largely in part due to men’s sexual status being related to wealth (women like men with money). Women are more likely to study what they are passionate about or enjoy, rather than just getting a degree to make money. Women don’t need to make money to be a suitable mate (men don’t care about money). In general men are more interested in things and women are more interested in people. This is why so few women enter engineering or coding, but dominate the medical field. Women are inherently more nurturing, which is why they identify with this field more.

Although I truly see there is a problem with the IT industry not having much female representation, and take it from a guy who believes that, you are not the asshole. You are standing up for equality and an end of sexism. There are plenty of funded programs to help with the gender imbalance, you and your church doesn't need to do that. Imagine if you were a boy who really wanted to be a coder and your first opportunity was taken away because of your gender. That would feel so bad. Those feminists are heartless. Well done.
