Title IX complaint.

This is clearly a Title IX violation.

I mean, they are getting better grades simply for being female. That's clearly a Title IX violation.

File the complaint.

[–]_Leukocyte_ 403 points404 points405 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Do it for the love of god

People who earned their grades would thank you.

[–]NibblyPig229 points 8 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Including hard working skillful women who are now going to attract suspicion. "Did they get here just because they're women or because they're actually good at the subject?"

[–]benjwgarner 126 points127 points128 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Affirmative action sabotages women and minorities who earned it because people can suspect that they didn't.

[–]DarthRoacho 97 points98 points99 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would like to add to this, that sending it to news media may help it garner attention, depending on the news source. Send it to several, also post this everywhere on twitter. Show the in your face bias to the world.

[–]StarGazer_Cyn 17 points18 points19 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

^ I agree.

Here’s the thing, why raise the grade of a female just because you’re trying to encourage them to go into a specific field of study? If they’re pulling lower grades, why make them seem smarter than they are? This has the potential of setting them up for failure because they’ll go forward and get bad grades thinking they’re better than they are. It’s bad all around.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This has the potential of setting them up for failure

And people wonder why it's assumed women didn't earn their degrees and positions in companies.

[–]GileadGuns 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In sophomore year of high school, I had one semester with an English teacher who literally gave every male student a D or F and every female student an A. This was regardless of any of the normal factors for grading like work, participation, test grades, etc. The last month of the semester, she was fired, and all students were given a B and moved forward in order to try to sweep it under the rug. I had 4.0 GPA outside of that, and had to spend the entire summer and half the next fall petitioning the school board to either change my grade to an A or allow all my work (which I had saved) to be reviewed by another teacher. It took ~6 months and the threat of a very public lawsuit, but they finally allowed my English teacher the next year to review my work. I got an A+ ... but had I and my family not fought tirelessly for months to get that done, my GPA would have fallen and could have changed my scholarship eligibility and the rest of my life. All because that teacher had just gone through a messy divorce.

[–]bsutansalt 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Negative. You and everyone else affected have got to fill this out so that his complaint to the dean has teeth, otherwise they can handwave the whole thing.

[–]notacrackheadofficer 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's like going to HR before going to the EEOC, a mistake. You go to the top first, unless you are trying to get them to commit multiple violations, as you RECORD all conversations, without exception.
You and your friend will be expelled if you do not record everything. They will find a way.

I found the professor's professional online resume that's hosted on University of Akron's website. I won't post it here due to reddit's anti-doxxing rules, but it can be found in less than 5 minutes, even if your google-fu is weak.

[–]ethos1983 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As did I. Now please show me where this email is on his professional resume.

That's my point. Not that this teacher may or may not exist, but the email. You know, the incriminating thing.

[–]omgwtf56k 345 points346 points347 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Wow. We are not even trying to hide the bias anymore.

[–]vagrantchemist 136 points137 points138 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

So where is the equality in feminism if they get an extra boost in education? Doesn't this make women seem less capable of doing it on their own?

[–][deleted] 68 points69 points70 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Same thing happened with affirmative action. You mean, because I'm black its ok to score 1-2 levels lower and still get the same results? Unfortunately in reality that's not how it works. You can either do the job or you can't. Your race/religion/sex should not be considered.

[–]vagrantchemist 23 points24 points25 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I hate to get political, but it seems hard not to do these days. Isn't affirmative action a leftist idea? Seems like they always wants diversity, but it feels more like they're using identity politics to score votes. People end up fighting over these same issues, while politicians get elected and forget about them later on. Is there anyone else who feels like this is the case?

[–]CubonesDeadMom 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe, but no leftists I know think it’s a good idea. Even minorities don’t like it because then they feel like they may have gotten in when they didn’t really deserve to just because they’re not white. It might have made sense in the last but it’s bullshit now

[–]Revet-ment 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's definitely the case. The modern left (especially the US Democratic party) tends not to differ overmuch from their right-wing counterparts on economic policy, for whatever reason. What's more, most of the social issues they successfully leveraged in the Obama era are now gone, so they need something to hold their coalition together, and that thing is identity politics. Most of them probably don't actually believe in it, they just see it as a useful political tool.

I'm left-leaning on a number of issues myself, and it's been so disappointing seeing people who should be working towards the same goals as me get furious at me for saying anything at all because I'm not of the correct skin tone.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They claim they're oppressed in education even though they make up the majority. No grievance will ever be settled until men have had enough

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Other than a small minority of feminists I doubt anyone would find this is acceptable. Most feminists I know are against being treated differently.

[–]mwobuddy 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Id like to see independent confirmation of the source first. Like a reputable news source.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

WHAT!? HOW DO YOU DO THAT WITHOUT YOUR BIASES GETTING IN THE WAY!?

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

This insults both sides... men have higher standards, and it's basically saying women held to the standard of men will fail. So much wrong with this. I'd like to see and update.

[–]tenchineuro 80 points81 points82 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Apparently US institutions have been jealous of Oxford in the UK and it's openly sexist policies, so they decided to do some catching up.

If you're in a one-party consent state, and you're university policy allows you to record conversations, go to the professor's office hours and ask "why did you give women extra points?" When the professor responds with a justification, you've got even more proof.

[–]notacrackheadofficer 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Hostile environments allow you to legally record in most cases, including hostile work environments. IANAL.
If you are in public, on a speaker phone, your friend is legally allowed to record that, in public with another phone/recording device. There's no need for anyone's consent in public to record anything.

[–]locks_are_paranoid 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

If he's in his professors private office, the professor would have a reasonable expectation of privacy. The laws vary by state.

[–]notacrackheadofficer 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not in a public school, filming public officials in the course of their official duties. If they OWNED the private [not owned by the people of the state] office, that's another thing. But it's a public state college.
Most people think you need permission to record people in a public owned facility.

First of all, those fields are dominated by men because women don’t want to work there and second, equality is not about how many men and women there are in a field it’s about EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES! Oh yea AND WHERE’S THE ENCOURAGEMENT FOR I know this is fake, this is just a perfect example of what I’m trying to say

Beyond all the social politics, what does #2 even mean, in a literal sense? That a quantifiable score is in fact not representative of a quantifiable score?

Are we just saying things now? Anything goes?

[–]awksomepenguin 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Let's say you do really well on homework and on the project for the class, and you contribute a lot in class. You just aren't good at taking tests, and it gets reflected in your score. Professors do reserve the right to increase a students final grade of they think they deserve it.

[–]RocketPowersSD 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Academic inflation is a real problem, and it affects students both psychologically and economically. I think we should be focusing on quantifiable universal grading rather than subjective grading, which is what you’ve indicated that many professors currently reserve the right to do.

I’m aware professors reserve the right to do that, and I’m here arguing that it’s wrong.

I believe you, but that is not really the proof we need. We need to know that professor sent that letter, not that the professor exists.

[–]Nyosty 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Understood. What's the best way to verify that?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A comment from another person that's actually in the class? A statement from the teacher/school?

[–]Sir_James_Aldo 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am in the class. Here's proof of the email and a response from the dean.

Get video evidence of the professor saying it's a fact.

[–]CubonesDeadMom 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So you can fail a class with 0% and a you’ll get a C only because you have a vagina? How fucking retarded are these people? I would definitely bring this up with an academic honesty board or something because I’m pretty sure that’s illegal. You can’t just pass someone who fails a class because of demographics. And what are they going to do when some woman who only graduates because of this policy can’t get a job anywhere because she’s an idiot that doesn’t actually know the things they assumed she knew because of her degree?

Send this to Infowars and Campus Reform and Fox News and Breitbart and Drudge and World Net Daily and Zero Hedge and Michelle Malkin and Washington Times and PJ Media and Mark Levin and Dick Morris and Rush Limbaugh.......

Apparently you also really ought to cheat on your finals according to number 2.

[–]numquamsolus 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What does the second point even mean?

[–]rocky-232 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is fairly common in Math classes in my experience. I struggled in Calc all semester was sitting at a C in the class and studied for like 3 weeks 20 hours a day and pulled an A on the cumulative final and the professor gave me an A in the class.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I had a teacher send out a similar email except slightly racist (like black kids will get higher grades) and it ended up having to do with the next class lesson on like ethics or something so that's probably what this email is about.

They've finally hit peak stupidity...

[+]pontiflexrex -2 points-1 points0 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

People creating a fake email? People spreading fakes? People not fact checking anything as long as it fits their existing views? People reacting with outrage anytime they think they are being victimized? Who are you talking about?

[–]Zirealeredin 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Great way to destroy whatever little integrity the degree has left.

[–]CityFarming 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just sent the professor a strongly worded e-mail. Took about 15 seconds to find it on google. If you sit around and do nothing you are contributing to the problem. Take action please.

How many times has this been downloaded and uploaded? It's looking pretty fried.

Thank you for everyone who gave me information to file a Title IX complaint. I know it's hard to prove stuff online, I emailed the professor directly to see if he would reply back, will check in tomorrow.

Raising women's grades is a "national movement to encourage female students to go to information sciences?" Sounds a little fishy.

I found this, Maybe it will help. https://www.chronicle.com/article/A-Brief-History-of-Students/242104

It may be real, it may be not. But it was easier to get outraged than getting the facts right. Feeling victimized is what keeps the community tight so let’s screech now and there’s a chance we’ll be right. Maybe. We don’t know. We don’t care.

Just makes this sub look bad, posting obviously fake shit like this. If this were real this professor would obviously be fired in a second.

So the professor is real, where is the proof he sent it?

[–]CpBear2 points 8 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Haha so can I get an apology brother? There was no proof so the guy deleted the post. I'm not sure why I got downvoted so heavily, in my eyes this was an obvious fake post designed to make it seem like people in this sub are gullible.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hahaha.

[–]anticultured 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

As I said in another post to you, I believe you, but this is not the proof we need. We need to know that professor sent that letter, not that he exists.

What is the best way to obtain that proof?

[–]CpBear-4 points 8 years ago [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]LittleBill12Pill 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Is this class graded on curve? If so, this is BS. If not, why not give females a bit of advantage to help them out in this field? I actually don’t see this much different than rich people need to pay more tax than lower income people. How is this bad besides it is unfair, which is one of many unfair things in life most people in our society ok with? Of course, if you think everyone should tax at equal percentage, don’t bother reply since you are ideologically consistent and already won this argument.

[–]locks_are_paranoid 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Because its not treating them equally.

[+][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

So is tax system. Then why poor people should pay less % of their income as tax? Why most people think this is ok to be not fair?

Also, you are right. The end goal is treating them equally. At this point, females’ starting points not as good as men so they can have some advantage in order to facilitate the equality end goal. When there are enough females in the field, this advantage should be removed. I just don’t think we are there yet.

[–]locks_are_paranoid 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

At this point, females’ starting points not as good as men

This is false. When a person enrolls in a college class, everyone has an equal starting point.

[+][deleted] -8 points-7 points-6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow even with men not getting into college as much as females now. They dont understand how this actually hurts women becuase men in the workplace know they've had it easy their whole life and didnt have to work as hard to get success. Makes their degrees worthless.

This is why they get discriminated against in tech, because tey got where they are by bullshit and not by merit.
