Fucking Tumblr has spread to my country. Apparently women are the ONLY victims of domestic abuse, and men are terrorists.

Why do they care? Women need men like a fish needs a bicycle right? Well the bicycle has decided to go riding by itself. Why is the fish crying?

It's their shaming tactic. To say men who do not get into serious relationships ( which is what women want ), are not men. It never ends. Take it from me. Even after you were married, this shaming tactic continues. You bought a house, you move in to a better neighborhood, now, if you don't have multi-million dollar homes like her new friends who she won't find in the fist place if you didn't move up, you are not a man. After you have your luxurious home, you go on vacation with other families and you have to stay in motels while they have vacation homes at resorts, you are not a man. And if it ends in a divorce, and you dare dispute finances with her, you are not a man, and do not deserve to see your kids.

Don't bother. Do whatever the heck you want. That's what a man should be. And if you find a woman who's fine by that, good. If not, who cares. If women start shaming you to step up your game, ask her to leave. Trust me. We are hardwired to please women, but we live in a time when it's a bad move to do so.

[–]bertreapot 32 points33 points34 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I've noticed this with most men in relationships. The constant shaming and brinksmanship doesn't end until the guy stops giving a shit about impressing her. Oddly enough the woman ends up respecting her husband for finally drawing a line.

[–]mochacola 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Very true.

Give a mouse a cookie, it's going to want a glass of milk...

[–]mochacola 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If the mouse say thank you each time. It's quite alright. Problem is the mouse will look at a lion and tell you, "Are you a freakin' loser? Cookie, milk, and cheese? Look at the guy feeding that lion a whole steak! Do you even know how to provide? This is the reason I'm always a mouse and never become a lion! You owe me! If I'm fed by that other dude, I'd be a lion by now!"

These women don't benefit directly

I think that may be the reason there. Seth n Pals' fun life didn't revolve exclusively around women so it's deemed "immature". Since the guys aren't begging to be an accessory to a woman's carefree lifestyle, they're obviously shirking their manly responsibilities and need to "man up".

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Those guys weren't actually hurting anyone with their behaviour, besides perhaps themselves, and even then only in the long term, yet they're seen as the scum of the Earth by some women because they make them feel redundant. It's funny how when a woman does what makes her happy, she's "liberated", yet when a man does it, he's "immature".

Look at the brother-in-law played by Paul Rudd in that movie. He was married to a rude bitch of a woman who was so entitled that she threw a wobbly when a nightclub bouncer dared tell her that she has to wait in line like all the rest of the mere mortals. When she suspects her husband of having an affair and tracks him down only to find out that he was socialising with a group of other men, one would think she'd be relieved that her man is faithful. Yeah right.

[–]baskandpurr[🍰] 26 points27 points28 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What puts these people in a position to comment on the lifestyles of men and declare them not good enough? Why does Kay S. Hymowitz opinion matter at all? Besides, if young men are now adult-children that makes them exactly like your average young woman. The truth of this complaint is that young women can't act like spoiled children if men aren't taking responsibity for the mess they make.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Right, this may not be a gendered issue but more of a generational one (yes, lewronggeneration yadda yadda yadda). Perhaps the zeitgeist is swinging more towards personal happiness and away from social responsibility. People, not just men or just women, but people are pulling away from marriage and children and the old brand of milestones for personal progress and instead are focusing on just being happy in the moment. It may be myopic, but there is a strong argument that cynicism and powerlessness has led the retreat into adult adolescence.

[–]Pantsyr 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've used that line a few times when I've heard women remarking on the uselessness of such male lifestyles. It's not a popular line but the reactions can be interesting.

[–]TheDude41 58 points59 points60 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

As opposed to women, who today act like entitled little princesses until they turn 40.

I guess men lost interest in you shrieking little crybabies. Who wouldn't?

For a couple years there was a huge spate of articles like this but they kind of dried up after men handed their asses back to them in the comments section and on social media.

The feminist media would rather stop talking about an issue than tell the truth.

The British press seems to be covering it more now, with MGTOW & the Marriage Strike being covered on British TV and magazines.

For a couple years there was a huge spate of articles like this but they kind of dried up after men handed their asses back to them in the comments section and on social media.

Actually they haven't stopped. They just shifted their focus to Japanese men now.

[–]Tmomp 25 points26 points27 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That article is a lot of whining for someone calling someone else immature.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points27 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think what disturbs me about this article is the implied attitude that men are somehow a community resource - the value of our existence as men is directly proportional to our willingness to protect and support the female class. Furthermore, why do women have any say in what defines a man?

It should come as no surprise that decades of educational support for women has created a stilted generation of men. Why should men contribute to and support this society anyway? What exactly is the benefit? We've diverted educational resources toward girls' educational advancement; diminished the material value of marriage; penalized fatherhood; placed untenable and often contradictory expectations on men; eroded the value of our wages; and socially demeaned our contributions to society.

Society got what it wanted and is now complaining about the unintended consequences. Typical.

[–]AGoodWordForOldGil 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the value of our existence as men is directly proportional to our willingness to protect and support the female class.

Not to mention that female empowerment only comes if men in power allow it. Feminists (and other women) resent this. Change doesn't happen because the impoverished grasp for it. It's handed down by our leaders who get something in return. In exchange for allowing women in the workplace the powerful haven't given workers a raise in real wages since the 1970s. Feminism became politicized in the 1970s. Coincidence?

[–][deleted] 43 points44 points45 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I snicker at how women seem to believe that they are leaving us men behind.

It's quite the opposite. We're leaving THEM behind. We are men. We are good in STEM, we just lost interest in relationships where the woman brings NOTHING to the table.

So we walk our way alone. No problemo.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The root of that delusion rests in the fact that women are only able to "leave men behind" because men are essentially subsidizing womens' freedom with our own impoverishment. Women can only enjoy their upward mobility so long as men continue to sacrifice themselves as some kind of community resource. It is absurd that women even feel entitled to define what masculinity means, and what it should be. I think that's for men to decide and we should remind ourselves of that.

[–]AGoodWordForOldGil 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It is absurd that women even feel entitled to define what masculinity means, and what it should be.

This needs to be its own post. I never heard it put that way before. Ironic considering how much women fight against men defining their sexuality

Reminds me of a Ip Man movie i saw where Ip Man walks into the shop and meets Lun Bik, a old guy. Lun Bik's like 'i know Wing chun, you fancy sparring kid?', Ip Man agrees and ends up getting his ass kicked and he's like 'hang on a minute! That's not Wing chun' and Lun Bik's like 'whatever comes out of my fist is Wing Chun!'

I am saying that it's not for a woman to define what a man is. By being a man whatever you do is inherently masculine.

It's been an almost universal rule of civilization that girls became women simply by reaching physical maturity, but boys had to pass a test. They needed to demonstrate courage, physical prowess or mastery of the necessary skills. The goal was to prove their competence as protectors and providers. Today, however, with women moving ahead in our advanced economy, husbands and fathers are now optional, and the qualities of character men once needed to play their roles—fortitude, stoicism, courage, fidelity—are obsolete, even a little embarrassing.

Today's pre-adult male is like an actor in a drama in which he only knows what he shouldn't say. He has to compete in a fierce job market, but he can't act too bossy or self-confident. He should be sensitive but not paternalistic, smart but not cocky. To deepen his predicament, because he is single, his advisers and confidants are generally undomesticated guys just like him.

Good description.

James Taranto, addressing a different Hymowitz article, argues that extended adolescence might be a rational economic decision for young men (Actually, Hymowitz seems to be saying something similar in the current article)...

Are boys irrational? Not if you distinguish biology from economics

Hymowitz laments that young males are insufficiently interested in "becoming reliable husbands and fathers." Imagine somebody opening a piece with the converse lament that young females are insufficiently interested in "becoming reliable wives and mothers." The author would be attacked as a misogynist and a dinosaur. Why, critics would demand, should women set their sights so low?

Well, why should men? Except perhaps in very conservative communities, men with sufficient social skills can find sex and companionship without need of a matrimonial commitment (and for those who lack social skills, a willingness to marry is unlikely to provide much compensation). The culture's unrelenting message--repeated in Hymowitz's article--is that women are doing fine on their own. If a woman doesn't need a man, there's little reason for him to devote his life to her service. Further, in the age of no-fault divorce, "reliable husbands and fathers" not infrequently find themselves impoverished by child support and restricted by court order from spending time with their children.

As for education, the story of Joshua Strange ought to be enough to give any sensible young man second thoughts about enrolling in college. And work? Not all jobs, including those that require a college degree, are as rewarding as writing for an intellectual magazine (or, we hasten to add, a newspaper). Men traditionally sought to "better themselves" not because working in an office or on an assembly line was itself a source of delight, but because being a workingman enabled them to earn respect and made possible the joys of domestic life.

Today, the idea of commanding respect for an honest day's work seems quaint, and if you don't believe us, try "resigning" yourself to "a life of shelf stocking" and see where that gets you. In a world of female independence and limitless options, traditional family life is both less attractive and more elusive--for men and women alike--than it used to be.

Boys and young men are no less rational, or capable of adapting to incentives, than girls and young women are. They are, in fact, adapting very well to the incentives for female power and independence--which inevitably also serve as disincentives to male reliability and self-sacrifice.

Matthew Cochran brings up the parable about one man who works hard so one day he can retire and go fishing, and another man who's skipped the hard work and gone straight to the fishing.

Are Men Irrational For Opting Out Of Education, Careers, And Families? What makes good sense on a personal level can make less sense on a societal level.

So why did this make me think of the fisherman’s tale? The point of the parable is presumably to question the wisdom of the kind of masculine ambition that leads a man to build, advance, and produce more than what he needs for himself, but the far more interesting question is this: where does this ambition come from and what is its purpose? Consider: if you think about the characters in the parable, it is not hard to guess which of the two men is more likely to be married. The businessman would certainly be a better catch in the eyes of most women, and the fisherman isn’t scaling back his hours to spend more time with a wife and kids. His highest aspiration is to simply relax and enjoy life whenever he is able. We are just speculating here, and it is certainly possible that the fictional businessman is just in it for greed, but even then, it is interesting that family is the single most likely factor to determine whether or not his ambition is truly greedy.

Mr. Taranto’s analysis of the matter is essentially that these underemployed young men are making the fisherman’s choice. Sure, sitting on the beach is replaced with casual sex and video games, but the principle is the same: for a man without ambition, the fisherman’s choice is not really irrational.

But there is a point at which the fisherman’s choice does become irrational, and it is probably this realization that has been alarming many people like Ms. Hymowitz. What makes good sense on a personal level can make less sense on a societal level. Civilization depends on the tendency of men to produce more than they consume for themselves—it depends on that masculine ambition. In the parable, the fisherman feeds himself. Following the businessman’s ambition, however, could mean feeding himself & his workers, along with any family they might have. His ambition could be a huge boon to society. Take that away, and you have a bunch of men doing what they need to do to stay comfortable, but nothing more—nothing for any women or any increasingly hypothetical children.

This leads some folks to call the disinterested men lazy and shame them on an individual level into manning up to provide for society. However, if the irrationality is at a societal level, perhaps the critique should also be leveled at society. Permanent and chaste marriages along with the legitimate children they produce are a social feature that traditionally cultivated masculine ambition by rewarding it and channeling it towards benevolent ends. Men tend to love their wives and children, take satisfaction in working on their behalf, and used to gain commensurate social respect for doing so.

And yet, this kind of marriage is precisely what has been taken away from men in our society. Instead, our elites have sought to structure the family around child support instead of marriage. The mother has custody of the children, but she receives much of the necessary resources from elsewhere. This could be from her husband, but it could just as easily be from her ex-husband, her boyfriend, or the taxpayer. Where it comes from doesn’t matter so long as the child has resources and the woman is freed from any moral or social obligation towards these men.

The exponentially growing rate of single motherhood ( and all it's problems ) and divorce initiated by women is a prime marker for this phenomena and is exactly why men are no longer willing to settle down with this type of woman. I would marry if I could find a wife that I could fully trust and that would bring her own merits to the table, but I'm not putting my life on the line for women that partied their entire early 20s to early 30s and then want to settle down after graduating the status of party girl. Men are no longer letting themselves be treated as walking ATMs. When they say: "Where have all the good men gone?" I say "Why would a good man want you?".

Just imagine.

[–]bertreapot 20 points21 points22 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Classic example of an opinion piece where a woman is free to chastise men without criticism. If a man wrote a similar article about what women are doing wrong, just wait for the cries of sexism.

The author also ignores the #1 cause of these "pre-adult" males: women entering the workforce, and stretching their own post-adolescent fantasy life well into their 30s. it used to be that men were the primary breadwinners, there was no contraception, and settling down to support a family was the right thing to do. Today, most women make good money in the work force, and why settle right out of high school when you're making good money? They can move to the city, drink, party, have unfulfilling short-term relationships with men they are too good for, then commiserate with their peers that there just aren't good men around these days.

men aren't the only ones with some growing up to do.

[–]Lethn 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's really simple, good men got tired of your shit and have found someone better or they're out searching elsewhere.

What Ms. Klausner means by "guys" is males who are not boys or men but something in between.

I like how she's the arbitrator defining what a man is.

[–]mshorts 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Great, another article about men written by a woman.

And of course she misses the point: society no longer provides incentives for "good man" behavior. There is little respect or honor for a "good man".

Why would anybody want to marry this miserable woman?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

For today's pre-adults, "what you do" is almost synonymous with "who you are," and starting a family is seldom part of the picture.

Yeah... no... I'm assuming "starting a family" means "having children". I'm an adult, and i'm making the adult decision to not have children, and instead maintain my freedom, money, and... fun.

That has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not i'm a "responsible adult", and this author's opinion betrays that fact. It shows she wants someone to have a kid with, and having a hard time finding a man who wants to have a child with her.

"a man willing to have a child with her" != "good man". She should re-title her article.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

and to really drive this home

In 1970, to cite just one of many numbers proving the point, nearly seven in 10 25-year-olds were married; by 2000, only one-third had reached that milestone.

I think this author is struggling with the fact that men don't want to marry. On that note... women ALSO are choosing not to marry. Only one of these is seen as a problem.

[–]parkowork 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A system, that for the majority of men, leads to more responsibility, more problems, and more legal and financial obligations (even if it goes tits up, and it's not their fault) than staying single... boy, how exciting does that sound... JUMP RIGHT IN BOYS!

This is fantastic news - we should be celebrating that men are finally acting in rational, resulted oriented ways that benefit them and society - and not women anymore.

Furthermore, the author is neglecting to mention that when people live by themselves, there's double the demand for housing, cars, restaurant budgets, etc vs if all of these people shacked up and lived in one house. In fact, the author doesnt really describe a single bad thing about this demographic shift - not a single one

The sexual revolution first benefited women, and now the secondary impact has arrived now that men have adjusted to the revolution. Society can only be enriched and be improved by it.

I'm sorry, o writer of the article that my dad died when I was 18, that I was emotionally stunted, intellectually a little slow, and a horrible student. I'm sorry that I spent the first half of my 20's in the bottom of a bottle figuring out who the fuck I really am. And the second half going and turning into someone worth being with long term. Wait. I'm not sorry for any of it. Fuck you. If I had a dollar for every girl I came across who acts like she's hot shit because she has ovaries, but isn't going to school, doesn't work out/make Any attempt at health, and is ultimately waiting to get married off so she doesn't have to work the rest of her life....I'd have a good chunk of tuition knocked out. Piss off WSJ.

Women in their 20s and 30s today are pickier than ever and yet they have far less to offer men than in generations past. Women today think they're doing good by bringing to the table what men already have in spade and the author still hasn't figured out why many are going their own way? Really? This isn't rocket science.

Indeed, I flat out told my wife that she needs to earn more than me (I know...misogyny). But she is really a stereotypical engineer, with a great smile (and I love that about her). She is social awkward as all fuck and can be a real pain, and is unapologetic about it (I tame dragons, not bitches) and wasn't ready for kids until...about a month or two ago. It was a wake up call 18 months ago when I said her money is what she was bringing to the table in the long term. She's been working damn hard on her social skills now, taking lessons left, right, and center on schmoozing, and it took really leveling with her to help her see she needs to bring more than just a vagina. I want a companion and a partner, I want an equal, damnit.

WSJ = SJW

[–]chocoboat -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The WSJ isn't far-left SJWs, it's far-right conservatives who believe in traditional gender roles. But due to the horseshoe effect, it's hard to tell the difference between the two.

Men have had to deal with the changes in society, and some have adapted by enjoying single life for longer or becoming a form of MGTOW. Women are going to have to deal with these changes, and no amount of wishing for the old days will change it. They'll start focusing more on their careers, or becoming WGTOW.

Or hopefully, there will be less of the entitled princess "I want a provider" attitude out there, and more of the "I better bring something useful to a relationship or else I'll never have one that lasts" attitude that men need to have if they want a lasting relationship.

This is a clear sign of society collapse, just look what happened the years before the fall of Rome, low birth rates, low marriage rates, high divorce rates and more importantly, men were more then ever living a lavish life style and not caring about responsibilities.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Just like that rat overpopulation experiment.

[–]chocoboat 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The rat experiment is interesting, but it's silly to think it all directly applies to our current society.

First, the rat society starting going through massive changes because of a lack of physical space. That isn't the case at all for humans, our changes are because of societal views that now result in more cost and less benefit for coupling and reproducing.

Second, humans are not rats. We can foresee the outcome of our actions. If we see a population crash coming because people just won't reproduce, we'll recognize that as a problem and create incentives to reproduce so that this won't happen.

Third, birth rates aren't exactly a problem for us. The US population and world population keeps on rising. We could do just fine with fewer people if we had a gradual decline, too.

Last, this is not Rome. We don't have to be on constant guard to defend our country from hordes of invading barbarians.

The rat experiment is interesting, but it's silly to think it all directly applies to our current society.

It's not a direct application, but it most certainly is comparable.

Last, this is not Rome. We don't have to be on constant guard to defend our country from hordes of invading barbarians.

You may want to rethink that statement. Look at what's happening with immigration. The UK has a serious problem with Muslims coming in, not acclimating to the culture, and it's really riling people up. You'll see the same thing happening in the US before too long. In 50 years as they out-breed us it'll be a soft supplication to infiltrating cultures.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Um ... Imperial Rome wasn't China. We don't have reams and reams of census data still around like the Han Chinese kept all these years. We literally have no general census data at all for Imperial Rome, let alone figures that could enable us to track infant mortality or divorce rates, like you're insinuating.

Virtually every modern demographic study of Rome is founded on Beloch's work, and his estimating was done based on military cartography, so it was assumed from settlement sizes, not from any real demographic records that survive from the time period.

There's one historian from the 1700s that agrees with your general thesis that Roman men got weak and evaded responsibilities - Gibbon - but not very many modern historians consider his argument all that compelling. He painted the pagans as tolerant and the Christians as intolerant, for example, which ran contrary to the various religious purges against Christianity, such as those under Diocletian.

[–]AnonGoesOnline 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

well I won't be able to discuss this in such a level, I just read it in some places and there are sources that say this happened in Rome, at what level I can't really say, but I wouldn't be surprised if it where true or false.

But the fact at hand is that this is what is happening to us right now, and the consequences of having a non sustainable birth rate in western is really fucked.

[–]chocoboat -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

How exactly will things collapse? The Roman Empire's military strength became weak and they were under threat of invasions. Western military strength is at an all time high and no one is trying to invade. The two situations aren't comparable.

[–]generic_name 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Western military strength is at an all time high and no one is trying to invade. The two situations aren't comparable.

I would be very interested in understanding just how well the United States could stand up against a coordinated attack between China and Russia if those countries decide Western 'democracy' has run its course.

[–]chocoboat 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Assuming we don't just bring out the nukes and destroy the world, I think the US could hold them off pretty well. In modern war, defensive capabilities are far stronger than offensive capabilities (the US army can barely hold a city in Iraq against a poorly trained poorly armed opposition). And we have the most well armed civilian population in the world.

Anyway, that situation would simply never happen. China, Russia, and everyone else relies so much on international trade these days. They'd be destroying their own economy and severely lowering their quality of life for decades.

-"The Roman Empire's military strength became weak and they were under threat of invasions. Western military strength is at an all time high and no one is trying to invade. The two situations aren't comparable."

Well this is a different time with different peculiarities, I never said the western world would collapse the same way Rome did, that would be quite impossible, but many key elements to maintain a culture are already lost in western world, you see, birth rates are THE if not most important factor in a culture to be sustained, there are one study (that I'm trying to find right now, but you can go look for the sustainable birth rate at any website) and it shows that if a country cannot sustain a birth rate of 2.1 it will lose its primary culture and be replaced by another in a period of about 25 to 30 years, given that many European and american countries are already at 1.5 (birth rate) for about 15 years and it is mostly irreversible, doesn't matter if the army is strong, if there is technology, the fact is that there will be more and more old people. And today old people don't die. They tend to live up to 90 - 110 years, much different from the average 70 - 90 years we had at Rome.

So here is one possible way this system will go to hell, too many old people living of the system, too little young people working to pay for it.

[–]chocoboat 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A culture can be protected by restricting immigration, or integrating immigrants into the new culture. America does the second part very well compared to many other countries.

So here is one possible way this system will go to hell, too many old people living of the system, too little young people working to pay for it.

But we're not stuck with one system, helpless to change it to fit our needs. If we find ourselves in trouble, we can adapt the system (less support for older people, raise the retirement age) so that it continues to function for us.

And today old people don't die. They tend to live up to 90 - 110 years, much different from the average 70 - 90 years we had at Rome.

Life expectancy in the US is actually dropping for the first time in history, as addiction to overeating has spread like wildfire. I suppose that cloud has one silver lining, at least.

[–]AnonGoesOnline 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But we're not stuck with one system

In fact we are, the system is so volatile that any changes made to it will and can be reversed in one term, and most people don't think about what will happen in 20-30 years - see global warming- this only means that if we where to change how our system take care of older people it will be too late and the debt so great already that changing it would only give us a slight more time of suffering since the economic system would be already destroyed.

You don't think our military might has been severely eroded by all the leftist policies that are rotting away at its core? And with silly shit too, like taking down calendars that might be offensive to someone. At one point they were going to remove the nose art from historic aircraft because some namby pamy libtards complained about the pinup girls on them. And then there's the fact men have to subsidize women in the field in all manners of speaking. Little (and sometimes big) things like this add up.

[–]chocoboat 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You don't think our military might has been severely eroded by all the leftist policies that are rotting away at its core?

If you don't think the US military strength is at its all time peak then I don't know what to say to you. When do you think it has been stronger? Military spending has nearly doubled since the 90s. Our technological advantage over other countries has never been greater.

If you think we can't kick ass without the help of Playboy calendars and pinup girls, you're mistaken.

[–]bsutansalt 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We have better tools today, but our forces peaked in the eighties by doctrine at the height of the Cold War. Since then it's been a steady decline. As for raw dollars spent, I suggest adjusting things for inflation.

And none of that takes into account the weakening we've suffered by leftist policies.

[–]lost_garden_gnome 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It really comes down to this for me. I found a girl I really thought had potential, I worked with her (hard) for many years to vet her and make sure this could be a person I want to spend A LOT of time with, and even start a family together. After year 6 I was convinced (with many times of significant doubt). I don't think our author is ready to commit that kind of time and resources to find a life mate, and I don't blame her, I would never do go through this again, assuming things fall apart with "the wife" (she hates/loves the moniker).

[–]mra4ever 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Women really can't stand it when they find out that you don't need them for anything. It makes their head spin, which is why they're quick to belittle our hobbies and lifestyles.

You're only good when you're doing what women want. Otherwise you're a piece of shit - articles like these are concrete proof of how the average women has contempt for men.

[–]MRA-automatron-2kb 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well said! My uncle was forbidden to have hobbies. Just sit and read the newspaper or watch TV. His workshop was turned into her storage area. Men are like pets -> caged!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

These 'good men', especially those in their 20s, haven't gone anywhere.

They're just not bowing to your expectations and are putting themselves first instead of women, who according to this article are picky as fuck today.

They've obviously figured out that their hobbies and interests matter more to them than having a relationship with an entitled woman.

Also, so what if a man is still living with his parents in his 20s? It's more common for people in that age group to still live with their parents now more than ever thanks to a fucked global economy and terrible chances of stable employment.

Stop trying to make sense of the modern world, with 1950s ideals. Things change, men change.

So there's going to less men that cater to your desires? Get used to it lady.

[–]_-_Dan_-_ 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

BTW, I guess one answer would be: They did not find a good woman when they were looking for one and decided to move on to other things.

I think something some parts of society need to learn is that if you ignore or even blame men, a noticeable amount of them will opt out. As no matter what choices society presents to you, you always have the power to say "no".

Like Fight Club said: "We're a generation of men raised by women." Feminists have successfully demonized masculinity, and then are surprised that they're dealing with hordes of metaphorically emasculated men. I mean just look at Mad Men- that show is the epitome of shaming traditional masculinity. These women have the nerve to throw around terms like "toxic masculinity" and criticize every part of what it means to be a man, yet expect men to make more than them and provide for them. It's fucking sickening.

I find this article to be hilarious rather than to be offensive or disgusting. I would just like to see these feminist authors go live in japan for 10 years and then complain about Men in the US. The article basically is trying to call us out on being hikikmori yet the problem here has not evolved to that level at all.

[–]AllAboutDatGDA 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I would like to see the reaction if a man wrote an article entitled "Where have all the good women gone?" Now that would be something worth reading.

I enjoyed the part where women's interests are mature, while men's interests are not. Wtf is wrong with playing some video games in your free time? Better than watching the view or some nonsense.

[–]under_score16 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What also makes pre-adulthood something new is its radical reversal of the sexual hierarchy. Among pre-adults, women are the first sex. They graduate from college in greater numbers (among Americans ages 25 to 34, 34% of women now have a bachelor's degree but just 27% of men), and they have higher GPAs. As most professors tell it, they also have more confidence and drive. These strengths carry women through their 20s, when they are more likely than men to be in grad school and making strides in the workplace. In a number of cities, they are even out-earning their brothers and boyfriends.

Good on them for recognizing this at least.

[–]brettdavis4 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I get annoyed when women write stupid shit like this.

The problem with some women(I think the author is in this group) is they are holding out hope of the perfect guy. If she sees a guy she might be interested in and then starts going through the checklist and he doesn't score 100%, she'll dump him.

In reality what has happened, a lady met a guy that played video games casually and would hang out with his friends. Unfortunately, this guy didn't meet the Princess's standards and she is now alone. Now that she is alone she bitches about not finding any good men.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The author is married with kids. You're right about the other stuff, though. Having heard some of my female friends talk about men, some of their turn-offs are ridiculous. One of them laments the fact that she has no man, and talks shit about a married couple we're friends with to me because she's envious. The thing is, she's so damn picky that she'll never find a husband with that attitude.

[–]Optional_Reading 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I am a bachelor in my mid thirties. I have never been married and do not see any upside in getting married for the modern day man, unless you have a burning desire to settle down and start a family (which is totally cool too). I make decent money and enjoy being with different people. Any 'decent' guy is either married already, found a bride in another country, or is boning hookers like he should.
