I'm very early in the process, separated only a few weeks, so I'm exploring dating apps while not jumping in with both feet. I really just want to see what's there.

A lot of it has been positive, particular on FB Dating and eHarmony. My profiles on those sites discuss my status, right up front, and I hear from women who appreciate my honesty and say they're willing to take things slowly, maybe just meeting up on a friendly basis now and seeing if something develops in spring. Some women are happy just to chat with someone new, and that's helping me -- this was a devastating separation for me.

But what I've noticed on ALL of the apps I've tried, even Tinder, is that all the women over 40 (I'm 55 and set the bottom of the age range at 38) want a long-term relationship. Sometimes they add "casual," and I don't know if that means "long-term AND casual" or "long-term OR casual." Every now and then, there's a "long-term, open to short." No short-term casual. Very little "casual" without adding "long-term." Even the poly/ENM crowd is looking for "1-2 long-term partners in addition to my husband."

To see if there was something different out there, I checked out Pure. That was freaky. Pictures of women without faces, just thongs showing their ample rear ends. Lots of ugly couples looking for a "third."

Surely there's something in between? Are women saying "long-term" just to weed out the crazies and the freaks? Or am I going to have to shut things down until it's been six months, the divorce is final, and I'm mentally ready to consider an "LTR"?
