The love languages are bullshit. They were made up by a hyper Christian therapist to blame the problems people have in their relationship as "you're not loving me the right way".

I actually sat in a work conference years back and the guy that presented bragged it up pretty heavily. Every body got a book to take home. I showed it to my now ex wife when I got home and she said she would read it. Put it on the coffee table and yeah it never moved an inch for about 3 weeks and then it was gone

First wife changed hers by the weeks. Second one (the one I am divorcing now) scoffed at it and dismissed it. It is a good concept to get conversation but not on my recommendation list.

Read the book years ago. Thought I knew my exs love languages.. was likely wrong. At the end, I actually asked her what her's were, and she flat out refused to tell me.. was a "great" conversation....

A lot of hate for these but it’s a good way to understand what the other likes to give and receive. It can make you aware that getting her flowers is a waste of your time vs just picking up around the house or telling her she looks amazing.

Similarly it can help her know what’s important to you and how much.

It’s not just taking the tests. It’s about using the info and results.

Anyone that says it’s a scam or bs or for women only or whatever is absolutely showing they don’t understand its purpose.

These "5 love languages" might be irrelevant for some people. But they're true for me.

Mine are physical touch and quality time.

And they perfectly illustrate why my first marriage failed.

Calling gift giving a love language is just extortion haha. I’m of the opinion that this whole paradigm is just more pandering nonsense for women, a la astrology.

Yeah, I suppose I knew these. We talked about them, though ultimately you can't stop someone from going through a midlife crisis (her) and completely shifting her priorities.

Thankfully, truly, it was the best thing for me. Long-term. I was in a rut of just sort of handling always being unhappy with her. I thought that is what marriage simply was!

We both knew each others. Her’s is ‘acts of service’ and mine is ‘physical touch’. The irony… she did many great things for me and I touched her frequently (I don’t mean just sexually)… we would have been great partners if we were married to ourselves.
