Sorry for the melodramatic post guys. I was drunk which doesn’t happen often lately. I lost my job and my wife after 11 years left me. Also I know we all technically die alone but I was wasted and dramatic 😂. I’m sad af but truly am working on myself and being the best dad I can be. Thank you all for the input, seriously.

Forgive yourself for the role you played. There’s no going back. But you can’t live in the past. No one wants to be a self fulfilling prophecy. Neither should you.

She isn't "yours," it was just your turn - my relatives who didn't "die alone" weren't conscious enough to appreciate that fact (not that you'd care for very long), being insensate either from drugs or brain injury

I get it we all have fantasies of lying on our death bed with all our children and grandchildren looking on... weepy eyes all around.

Spend some time in a nursing home, or a hospice and you will see true passing away

When one parent died, I was in the hospice (the parent never became conscious). As I was exiting the last time I saw a middle aged lady watching television seemingly bored. I could tell by her youth she was in hospice for the late stages of cancer, waiting to die alone, (no cards, no flowers no anything to indicate she had family, and if she did there is one and only one daughter who would camp out until the end after all, you don't have multiple of people ever showing up for the long ride after all)

we both looked at each other and in a glance I knew a stark truth

Life is a one way trip, you don't know how much time you have and trying to "engineer outcomes" is a fools errand

With a "family" we men try to buy into that fantasy of the beloved elder passing away. It's a less than 1 percent chance guys. Most of us will pass without anyone around except impersonal healthcare workers.

No such thing as a soul mate. Couples aren't "meant" to be together. As they say, there are plenty of fish in the sea. Work on yourself first, and then see how you feel about the whole thing.

Alpine, we will all die 1 day. Why waste it with negative energy? Not every marriage/partnership will last. Instead reevaluate what you want out the next relationship.

Work on your weaknesses and become the man you were always meant to be. The past has gone. look forward and see how amazing life is.
