So today I had my first session with my therapist. Turns out I am carrying a lot of trauma that is preventing me from moving forward with my life. I always tried to be a good husband. I was never abusive and never cheated. Did my best to provide for my family, help with the kids, help put her through college, did my share of the housework, paid all the bills, etc.

I wasn't a perfect husband but I tried. Last 5 years or so things were not good. Sex was very infrequent, and was done out of a sense of obligation. On her part. I just assumed that's what happened after awhile. Her levels of resentment continued to grow. Nothing I did could make her happy.

After she left, she has made me out to be an abuser, and herself a victim. She holds tightly to this narrative. Something else that haunts me is all those times she had sex with me when she didn't want to. Makes me feel awful, almost like I was raping her. I was put down for so long I sort of believe I am all the bad things she thinks I am.

I've been single almost a year. I've tried dating, but I am absolutely terrified of being in a relationship again. I am also terrified of sex. I have literally zero self confidence. I have absolutely no interest in dating, and no sexual desire. I can still "take care of myself", but I can't imagine myself as a sexual person. I am also unable to sexualize any woman. If I catch myself checking out an attractive woman, I catch myself and shut it down. If a genie said he could grant me the wish of having sex with anybody I wanted, I would choose nobody. I feel like sex is something I am afflicting on someone else, instead of something to enjoy together. I can't allow myself to feel attraction of any kind, because I am convinced I don't deserve anybody.

The first time I tried having sex post separation, I couldn't get it up. That's never happened before. My body was just like "NO YOU DON'T!!" My friends keep telling me to GET BACK OUT THERE! GET ON DATING APPS! But I'm terrified. I don't feel I'm good enough. I'm afraid to be sexual. I'm afraid of even the slightest possibility of making a woman uncomfortable. I'm afraid my ex was right. I don't even want to have another relationship right now, but I'm unsure of how to fix my problems.

Anybody else ever feel this way?
