My first date back in 2016 was filled with red flags and I remember the amount of times I wish I left but felt bad or scared to speak up about it. He sucked at conversation in person, so I had to take lead, and the ambience in the restaurant was so loud and crowded. He made last minute plans to the movies — which I stupidly said yes to out of fear and I ended up paying for both of us because he didn't have enough (even with his student discount) and I had to sit through a horrible movie of his choice (he didn't ask what I wanted to watch) where he 10 minutes in started feeling my leg up. We haven't even broken the touch barrier before this EW. I felt so fucking violated and dirty and kept squirming around until he eventually realized my discomfort. He later apologized but I was so mentally, physically and spiritually done with the situation

While driving me home, he kept blabbing on about how I would like his sisters and that we should go to six flags on day - meanwhile I was calculating the distance to injury of me jumping out the car window of the moving vehicle.

It's been many years and I now know a lot of red flags that would have me for sure not want to continue the date—. But how do you plan to do it safely and without a lot of backlash? Like what happens if the food is already at the table? I thought about saying "I'm really uncomfortable, I'm going to go home." And call an uber asap. Please share tips and your experiences

Edit: thanks for all the replies and tips everybody! Super helpful and I apologize I wasn't able to reply in time, I took a long nap after I wrote this.
