I never understood the extent of how misogynistic and low value my father is until I found this subreddit. He didn’t do any of the cleaning, the dishes, the dusting, any of the child care, etc.

My mom worked a full time job. She made 6 figures while he was often unemployed. She had no time to spend with me or my siblings left, so I was often left alone (they were much older and often out). He wasn’t a stay at home dad, he was a stay at home Ghost.

As a 20 year old I am still processing the trauma of often being left alone and being expected to take on the entirety of the house chores starting early on. My two significantly older brothers did not have these expectations and still live at home. Doing nothing, while my mom works full time.

Being a pick-me is dangerous to your child and I am one example of how. I was often suicidal and so lonely. I tried to kill myself at 13. Now I am often happy, surrounded by friends, truly thriving and in therapy.

The worst part is, despite the fact that she built this life, my heart breaks for her. I wish I could give her the love, support and money that would save her but I’m 20 and I can’t. She will never leave or see through the viewpoint this thread has lent me.

Just venting to people who I think understand.
