Can we also have a patriarchy where you do all the housework and raise the children but you also have a high-paying job and pay 50/50 (or even most?). Iβm not marrying no gold digger.

Why even get married tho? Itβs just a piece of paper bae! We donβt need to involve the government in our love! The fact that Iβve been with you for 10 years should be proof enough! π€‘

Ugh gross! I used to ask them on the first date their thoughts on getting married. If they squirmed I knew it would never happen. Best response I got was the guy said βWhat like right now? Alright well I guess we should tell the parents.β He called his mom to say he was getting married! LOL!
So itβs not fool-proof but it might help weed some losers out.

My ex husband is this exactly. I made the money. Did the housework. He provided nothing - not emotionally supportive or protective and basically wanted me to be without feelings. Wanted to βmanageβ the money and make decisions yet brought nothing to the table. Cheated and sued me for spousal support because he felt he deserved it??! I know a pathetic guy who actually received spousal support from his wife. The two of them tried to join the army, she made the cut, he couldnβt hack the fitness aspect. I have no doubt. Society as a whole has failed men, and instead of doing better and wanting to be better, men just get complacent with mediocrity, then cry foul at women and blame women for everything that is wrong with them.
But look at the history of women and it tells a very different story. When we weren't allowed to do or be anything other than some man's property, that propelled multiple generations of women to want to do and be better, fighting for rights for the next generation and ultimately becoming what we are today: strong, capable, emotionally intelligent, and fiercely independent.
Why are men so weak?
[β]qwaliYFDS Newbie109 points110 points111 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Tbh society was built for men, to us it seems pathetic but theyre living easily and effortlessly off the backs of other people - no stress necessary.
If society had really failed men then they would be making an active effort to change it, the world is the way it is because they benefit from it :/
Edit: grammar
[β]seraphinelysionFDS Apprentice53 points54 points55 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Interesting observation. I suppose it's half an half. Society set them up for failure by telling them they don't need to do anything other than be born a man and they will get everything they want. But reality doesn't match that message and they become angry and bitter because of it.
[β]MixWideFDS Newbie39 points40 points41 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It's not just telling them that. From childhood, boys are not expected to work as hard as girls. Boys get paid more allowance for doing fewer chores than their sisters. Boys have more leisure time, boys sports and activities receive more funding, and boys are more likely to be provided with mentorships and opportunities for professional training in higher-paying fields. For fucks sake, in many areas of the world boys are fed more than girls.
Literally before they are even adults, boys have more wealth and opportunities than their sisters. The advantage only compounds throughout life.
The problem is that the entire system--and by this I mean all of society, our entire global economy, and every existing government--rests upon the unpaid labor of women and girls.
When women and girls are liberated the system collapses. It collapses on a larger scale but also on the small, individual level; men are trained their entire lives to expect women's unpaid labor to support them, and their privilege means they aren't even aware of 90% of the work that they are expecting to be done for them.
[β]seraphinelysionFDS Apprentice17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Huh, how funny of men to say that women have life easy and we get everything we want simply because we're born female. What reality are they living in? Because I want in on that one.

I blame a lot of it on religious dogma. Excoriating/villifying women who aren't "pure". Believing a woman's place is in the home. Propagating the idea that a man's word is law and women are not to be taken seriously. This shit has done a number to male/female relations. Even while some men move on from the way most people did things in the past, they still carry with them the entitlement found in the era and make it women's job to unpack all that.

I won't ever understand it completely because I have a different mindset than them. When I see people working so hard, I feel lazy by comparison and it motivates me to want to work harder too because I don't want to be left behind. I don't understand any other way of thinking. I can't just sit back and say, yeah I won't do anything to help because they got this and I'll just mooch off their hard work. I can't do that.
[β]smaller_angFDS Newbie24 points25 points26 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is because you see people working hard. They don't see the work, they see people with things they don't have and IT'S NOT FAAAAAIR. If they see a guy who goes to the gym every day and grooms himself and dresses nice their takeaway is "This dude has everything come easy to him because he's good looking!!! UNFAIR". If they see immigrants with better jobs than them "THEY'RE TAKING OUR JOBSSSS".

I'm sitting here with my mother in law this holiday season who acts like I'm the bad guy for making her son do the most basic of shit. Also I'm an asshole for telling her no he can do it, when she offers to take over. Than she bitches endlessly to me about him being lazy. Idk lady, he does stuff when I ask him to. These LVs don't even know what being head of the house even means.
A man who is the true head of house is a servant to his family. He works hard so his wife can live in a good house and his kids can get good educations. He earns money so his wife can manage it for the good of the family. He's there to offer guidance and advice and support to his wife and kids when they need it.
These men just want to call themselves head of house so they can do nothing while ordering you around and beating your kids.

This reminds me of this guy I knew, who, i'm sorry, he was just really ugly. Huge greek nose, super dark hair and disgustingly hairy, obese. And on top of it all, had a really ugly personality. And I was unemployed at the time (I was really young, late teens, normal to be unemployed at the time in life.) And he (also around the same age) just volunteered to my brother that he would never date me because he wanted a girl with a job. He didn't want a gold-digger. He worked at a restaurant at minimum wage.
This dude had the audacity.

This guy in the anxiety sub was talking about being suicidal. Then all of the sudden he starts going on about how he wants a girlfriend, but doesn't want a girlfriend because she'd probably just take advantage of his "resources." He's severely depressed but he's still paranoid about gold diggers?!
[β]noavocadoshereFDS Newbie[🍰] 107 points108 points109 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The "gold digger" thing...In my experience, this is the typical lament of douchey losers who seek out submissive suck-ups who mold their tastes and opinions to whatever the guy in question wants and then the guys are shocked (I tell you, SHOCKED!!) when it turns out the self-negating types are sometimes world class scam artists. Of course a minimum wage asshole wouldn't be targeted by world class anything but I suppose every tier of society has its equivalents.
It makes me laugh to see these burned guys subsequently go around tarring every woman with that brush instead of looking at themselves and their absurd requirements. Did they think that the effort it takes to completely suppress any vestige of personality or individuality comes naturally to the female gender, like we're some alien race? No, it's grueling labor and it's gonna cost them.
When I was in New York there seemed to be a huge invasion of blank-faced Scandinavian trophy Vikings, women who, if they couldn't quite make it in modeling, adjusted their sights to bagging ultra rich bozo husbands, men these women would run through like a dose of salts as they traded up and up and up for bigger and bigger fish.
Not to generalize (Scandinavian countries are having their own #MeToo explosions) but there isn't the same Madonna-Whore ethos in some Scandinavian countries, so some women, absent basic principles, had less compunction about being the "bees" and not the "flowers." I'm Scandinavian too but grew up consciously feminist and personally can't relate to women who can morph themselves so easily to men's specs. That type scared me a bit. I thought they were less PickMe than hired assassin, grimly determined to conquer and ignoring all other distractions like, say, political ramifications or (boring) leading an authentic life, etc. But I still thought it was a bit funny hearing the cries and moans from various dirtbag traders and dotcom-ers on how they totally got zoomed by these women. One former player was crying about how a woman from Denmark he'd been living with just up and moved out of his 2.4 m townhouse one day without a word, disappearing like vapor and then turning up on the arm of a shipping gazillionaire a year later to whom she'd gotten engaged.
The guy had such a hollow, haunted, traumatized look after that. More a biblical irony than a biblical tragedy though. For all his epic flaws as a human being and author, novelist Milan Kundera nailed it when he warned that men who objectify women risk encountering women who've embraced object status and have become dangerous objects "like hammers and guns." Get out your popcorn.

I suggest that you change your wording. You are within your rights to criticize this man for his poor behavior and features that are within his control. However, these criticisms do not give you the right to make racially charged insults. There is no need to insult his ethnic features.
There is nothing wrong with having a "greek nose" and I am sure that there are many women on this subreddit who also have this feature.
[β]mostly_ok_nowFDS Newbie30 points31 points32 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This also made me feel sick. As a Greek woman, who has been asked "are you Jewish? It's the nose." It reeks of Borat's intentionally outlandish portrayal of racism against Jews assuming they all have "the Jew nose" while miming a large nose coming off their face and not believing old ladies were Jewish because they didn't have a huge nose.
