The only people who do not stand to benefit from a paternity test are a woman who cheated and a man who intends to bolt. If the woman didn’t cheat, it benefits her as it is legal proof that the man has a responsibility to the child. And of course the baby benefits as well by having the record set straight immediately. It’s a win for everyone and anyone who is honest and not trying to shirk responsibility. There is only one reason for a woman to be opposed to it. And same goes for a man.

In addition to a “father “ trying to verify he is indeed the father, paternity testing can help Identify hereditary health issues. Why would a mother be against identifying such health issues in her child? : because she’s trying to commit paternity fraud.

Our child was switched in hospital. Fortunately seconds after being born my wife marked his hand with permanent marker just in case. They did put a band on his hand but somehow managed to switch the babies when later brought her a child for a feeding.

Fun fact: we had a boy, and she got a girl for feeding with male name on a band.

If you bring up getting tested for STIs with someone your sleeping with or plan on sleeping with and they immediately start trying to manipulate you.

I.e. "You think I'm cheating." "I'm not a slut." "How could you not trust me."

You have your answer. Walk away.

People who are not completely solipsistic are able to understand that they can pose a risk to others. Unfortunately most women never reach this level of maturity and can only think in terms of how they are affected. That's why having these conversations with them is futile the majority of the time.

The only reason women ever object to paternity testing is they want their cake and to eat it too. When a woman cheats and performs paternity fraud it is usually for the following reason:

They find two different men.

Man 1 = Financially Stable / Good Relationship Material

Man 2 = Good Genetics / Sexually Attractive

What women like to do is get pregnant with the baby of Man 2, and trick Man 1 into raising it. That way their baby has best of both worlds. The good genetics from Man 2, and the good resources from Man 1.

Ultimately, both men are robbed of fatherhood.

Man 2 does not get to be a parent to that child except as a sperm donor, and Man 2 is secretly not the parent of that child.

This is a scam that women have done for thousands of years. With DNA testing it is coming to an end.

In my state, there are something like 42 mandatory tests that have to be run on a newborn. Some of the genetic tests look for problems that occur in 1 in 100,000 births.

Why wouldn’t you test for a medical trait that is incorrectly reported at least 3 in 100 times? They claim it’s to protect the newborn, but it protects the person who committed fraud more.

I am sure a random woman who meets a random man has a much lower chance of getting raped, than a man to be victim of paternity fraud. Yet women prefer to be with bears. It is hypocritical of them to refuse mandatory testing that does no harm and settles the matter of paternity for good.

I fully support paternity testing, whether it be pre or post birth.

My question is why would you ever feel the need to ask your wife? If she is pregnant and you're unsure, you can use the genetic disease screening as a sort of litmus test. After birth, you can also do a cheek swab and send it for testing with a higher degree of accuracy.

Nowhere in this process does the wife ever need to know such testing has occurred. If the results are negative, great! If they're positive, the fact that you hid it would be the least of her concerns.

I was actually having a similar conversation with a friend. She said that it doesn't matter if a man isn't the biological father of a child he's raising, even if he's doing so because he was deceived. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I asked her to imagine if she were married, and her husband had knocked her and his secret girlfriend up at the same time, and she ended up giving birth in the same hospital as the girlfriend. What if the hospital accidently swapped the kids around? For the sake of argument, I asked her to imagine that she doesn't find out until years later, and her husband knew, but didn't care because both kids were his. How would she feel, then? My friend said "I'd take both kids". I said this was stupid, as the other woman has rights, too, but my friend said "I don't care, they'd both be my kids".

I a man adopt a kid. I put the woman's name on the birth certificate, which then entitles me to get a court order for child support.

Women can actually do this do men with the woman's own kids if she had sex with many guys and has no idea who the father is.

Just pass a law. If the man can prove the child is not his, the mother goes to Federal Prison for Fraud. 2 year minimum. Then she has to pay child support until the child is an adult. Zero contact without an expensive legal fight.

That 30% is wrong. However, I’m not against mandatory testing. Mistakes can be made in hospitals, people can have affairs. And in the case of divorce, most courts order a dna test anyway if it hasn’t been done. And it can help the kid with any potential future genetic problems.

The problem is the NUMBER of labs to test. The number presently would have to be multiplied by 10 to handle it. So…..business idea for someone? But, no one wants their biopsy not tested for 6 months because of a dna test. So that is the issue right now.

I guess that's why hospital technology has improved. The minute our boys were born, hospitals put digital tags on each of the boys that were unique to them and they didn't come off until we were out of the hospital and they were in car seats. They couldn't move from room to room without placing the tags in transit mode either. They also would trip alarms if you took a baby where it shouldn't go.This helped prevent kidnappings usually from other family members.

the 30% thing is misleading.

of the kids who get testes 30% turn out to be not the bio kid to the father, if they get the test meaning there's already suspicion so you can't apply that logic to a manditory testing for the baby in your experiment.

Well, one other reason a woman would be against a paternity test is she was sexually assaulted by another man and is unsure of whose baby it is, and hasn’t processed it enough to tell the partner.
