Girls (and boys) are allowed to wear short skirts and boys are not allowed to wear short trousers? If you try to make this shit up, you cannot match reality.

My boss has me work at a camp in "professional attire," namely dress shoes, dress pants, and a buttoned up collared shirt. I told my boss I have had heat stroke and can't handle the heat, and asked if I could wear nice shorts, to which she declined. So I ended up walking on trails and through mud in dress shoes, dress pants, and a buttoned up collared shirt. Needless to say, I ended up getting sick with heat exhaustion and had to call in the next day.

And of course, "professional attire," for the women I work with is open-toed sandals are allowed, sleeveless shirts, and a short dress or shorts are allowed. Even with a medical condition, I couldn't wear shorts.

I love to see people turning woke against woke to fight against discrimination as this boy and his friends are doing.
I think this article demonstrates just how absurd it is that some argue dress codes discriminate against women when in most all cases men are subject to the same restrictions and more.

If the uniform is gender-neutral and boys are allowed to wear skirts... then where is the loophole that they are exploiting? This is exactly the desired purpose and goal of the changes. Calling it "exploiting a loophole" carries a hint of condemnation of these actions, that what these boys are doing is "wrong" somehow.

The teenager said teachers were powerless to stop the protests because the inclusive rules don’t specify that skirts can only be worn by girls.

This is something which I struggled with as a wee lad too, one of the rooms was so hot a few days each year that we did less work and sometimes watched an "educational" video... I can only imagine how much worse it's gotten since then.

I do disagree with this "protest" though, the correct course of action would be to wear the shorts anyway and tell the uniform gestapo to fuck off.

But honestly at the same time why can't boys not wear skirts? Girls wear pants and shorts all the time. Why is bad when it's in reverse with boys wearing skirts?

And at the same time this is a protest on why shorts should be included. These boys will be overheating in the classroom in the summer time.

Let me just make sure I’m getting this correct…when girls at school are told that their skirts are inappropriately short or tight and they don’t match the uniform standard it’s misogyny and the boys and male teachers obviously need to learn to control themselves. But when a group of boys where shorts they are forced into isolation/suspended?

So my slightly different point of view here

I grew up in Dubai, and the boys uniform was trousers, and the girls could choose trousers or skirts.

None of the girls actually ever wore the skirts - everyone just wore the black trousers. And jumpers during the non summer time

Granted during lessons we had Aircon but during the lovely 50c summers during break/lunch we would chill and be perfectly fine - just drink lots of water.

I do think it's a bit stupid not allowing lads to wear shorts - but if you are healthy, exercise and are sensible - you can go through it no issue

I once had a temp job in an office that only interacted with customers over the phone, and got called in by my supervisor one Monday to complain that I'd worn shorts on our "casual" Friday the week before, and this was unacceptable. To her credit, she was very polite about it- at first.

-I asked what the problem was, giving that the job wasn't customer-facing; she said "it violates the dress code; we can't allow shorts". -I asked to see the dress code; she said she didn't have a copy. -I asked what the specific problem was; she said that I was showing too much skin. I loudly cleared my throat and pointed at the skirt she was wearing (on an NON-casual day, no less), which, even on a woman a third of my size, was showing more skin (not more proportionately, MORE) than I had been; she had the honesty to blush, but said nothing. -I, trying to find a mutually agreeable solution, pointed out that it was June, and that dressing for the weather could save the company a fortune in air conditioning costs; she would hear none of it and simply pointed out again "we can't allow shorts". -I, ever impatient with people hiding behind pointless rules, pointed out that by both size and gender, I was generating and retaining heat far more than she was, and that not only was this policy creating a potential health risk (an admitting exaggeration on my part, in light of the fact that I wore long pants every other day of the week), but her wearing far more revealing clothes on top of that created an unambiguously hostile work environment. Would she let the matter drop, or should I go to HR? She sputtered, clearly taken aback, and told me to go back to work; she'd consult with the office manager. They fired me two days later for ostensibly unrelated reasons.

These boys are just being practical; I see no problem with what they're doing. Hell, this is the UK, isn't it? Just claim it's a knockoff kilt, the tartan of clan MacReallyUncreative. [Actual kilts are made of heavy wool, so that's obviously not an option when overheating].
