There have been a few times in my life where the draft has come up in conversation with women and they were all absolutely shocked to find out that registering for the draft was mandatory in order to get financial aid for college/other social services.

Not something they ever have to think about.

If you actually read the article it’s just digitizing the selective service requirement which you already sign up for when you’re 18. All this does is make it so you don’t have to mail a physical form. This is not the same as a “draft” like Vietnam

The thing is when the draft was last used back in Vietnam, over 500,000 men refused to fight which absolutely overloaded the legal systems essentially clogging it. Basically men made politicians and lawmakers pull their hairs out because they can’t really prosecute that many people at once which is like the entire state of Wyoming. Men of that time caused a big political headache. Especially with big named ones like Muhammad Ali, who become a global symbol for it.

Men resisting the draft at that time is the reason why we have an all-volunteer military today. As well as it helping Richard Nixon win as hard as he did.

If men in those time created a massive political headache that made an entire system nearly impossible for the government to manage, sending them in panic mode. For example mailing their draft cards back which clogged the system even more. If they can do all that imagine what men of today could do.

Gen Z men essentially have nothing left to lose because life sucks for them in their generation.

That means if men fight hard enough we could see this abolished completely in our life time.

This is not new; it’s already been happening for however many months/years. I’m not Gen Z but spoke with one and he told me he didn’t have to register when he turned 18 because it was automatic. We have been required to self register for decades, so auto registering is better in this sense so there’s no forgetting and getting in trouble. However given the state of feminism and “equality” and “equity”, women who turn 18 should also be auto enrolled.

You already had to register. The requirement is not changing. Its just taking the burden off the individual. Who, to be clear, would be breaking the law to not register and its not like they don't know you exist/have not registered.

I'm all for dunking on these idiots but this seems like an administrative change that is largely neutral.

You can be mad at selective service. But thats been around since WWI. All that has changed here is there are less opportunities for people to commit crimes the government can literally determine you've commutes by ctrl-Fing an excel document.

Am I missing something?
