I think "muh genetics!" is a lazy excuse. I've seen way too many ugly duckling stories pan out to believe that claptrap. You're probably never going to become an abercrombie model, but there are very very few people who are truly genetically incapable of becoming attractive with hard work and smart styling.

I have a very hourglassy body shape, meaning my hips are wide af. I remember in high school the style was jeans that were low enough to show was crack. Obviously teenage spaceboobs wanted to be stylish and sexy, but even when my pants fit I walked around with a permanent muffin top. Cute, right? Add to that cystic acne, a frizzy mess of hair, and a puffy face and I was pretty damn ugly. I figured my shit out in my early twenties... I lost weight and found some low maintenance solutions to the parts of my face and body that bothered me. A hair treatment here, a face mask there, a dab of eye makeup, and clothes that flattered my shape more. There's tons of solutions out there to make you look better and you shouldn't be ashamed to use them, you just have to find what works for you. Seriously... people have looked at my high school pictures and didn't even believe I was the same person.

Genetics gives you a hard ceiling, but the average person doesn't come near that ceiling due to sh*tty diet, lack ogf exercise, and a poor understanding of style.

Genetics may peak you at an 8, but a genetic 8 with poor diet, exercise, hygeine and style will probably look like a 4-5.

Genetics determines what your 100% is, but most people barely become 50% of what they can be.

If you're a blue pill loser obsessing about getting this one particular girl who hates you because you're short, ugly-faced, and non-white, then yeah, genetics matter a lot.

If you're a badass red piller and women are pretty much interchangeable to you, getting laid isn't a problem. Maybe you work a pinch harder at it than ultra Chad, the genetic god, but who doesn't?

Pretty much. It's 80% genetics and 20% other things. A beautiful 6'2 guy will look beautiful regardless of his wealth, clothes, hair style and pretty much everything other than obesity.

Anyway, I guess it's not talked about that much because you don't have control over that 80%.

You can't change genetics, so there's little reason to worry or talk about it. Talk about the things which you can do something about. Which is the lift, clothes, etc.

While everything you are saying is true it still helps to "lift" and do all the other kinds of exercise, as it enhances your existing traits usually for the better (in moderation of course). See it as intelligence. You may have a 130 iq, but if you dont cultivate it you are going to see minimal rewards. Same with physical exercise. You don't have to live in a gym, but God a few hours a week does help. Also it is scientifically proven that physical exercise keeps the mind sharp, so you will end up performing better mentally wise and you are overall happier, which in turn makes you a more pleasant person to be around. Combine that with the new physically aesthetic look and you have got a winner! Or you can just wallow in self-pity and be a loser. Your pick really. I know which pick is more appealing, it is only going to be a bit harder.

If you dig deep enough into the science, biology is the only factor; it gives you your looks, your intellect, your ambition, your aversion to risk, your height, your ethniticy... and biology does the same for everyone else. Your biology determines what you do with the knowledge of lifting being a good idea. If you're too dumb to lift, then you will hamster out of lifting. You are both right and wrong; lifting won't help you, because you're too lazy to do it, even though it helps everyone.

Focus on what you can change. Dropping below 15% bf as a male will drastically increase your attractiveness to the opposite sex (and also the same, if that is more your cup of tea).

There are enough studies on the shoulder to waist ratio and its connection to atttactiveness.

Being well groomed and dresses will also add to this.

Will you be a Brad Pitt? Probably not, but you'll be way above the average and the median.

As a woman it's even easier. Just don't be fat and you'll be fine. A nice and firm ass can make up for nearly all types of flaws.

Your genes are designed to interact with an respond to your environment. Your environment shapes the way your inherited genetic traits are expressed. If you took 2 identical embryo clones and implanted them into 2 different women on opposite sides of the globe, the babies would grow up looking different.

Genetics have an influence, but they're not everything.

I think genetics are more important for women because men are more visual. But even then, women can do things to improve their appearance and overall attractiveness, like being nice, for example.

Genetics is no excuse to not try. You may not be able to score the hottest partners but if you can go from a 5 to a 3 from eating badly or becoming a drug addict, you can go from a 5 to a 6 with some effort. It sucks but that is how life is. Exercise, take care of your skin, know how to interact with people in social situations and dress well. That is far better than sitting and complaining you can't land 7s and 8s because mother nature dealt you a shitty blow.

I couldn't agree with you more, I've already raised this and pointed out that there is very little you can do to improve your appearance unless there is something fundamentally wrong with you.

This obsession with lifting is particularly irrational. Unless you are overweight, it is extremely rare for anyone to lift weights and become significantly more attractive, and those that do are the genetically blessed.

Any idiot can dress reasonably well, and grooming is extremely limited in scope. The first thing that will be mentioned with regard to grooming is your hair, well I haven't had enough hair to have a hairstyle since I was about 25, maybe even before that. I sure as hell don't now. Beyond that, it's just about brushing your teeth and making sure you don't stink. Great. Did any woman ever say "I found him so attractive because he had brushed his teeth and he wasn't malodorous"?!

When you make an OP like this, there are no end of stupid remarks stating that if you sit around doing nothing and get really fat then you'll be less attractive. This is obvious, but that's a disqualifier. It doesn't mean that simply by making an effort you can become attractive if you're genetically unfortunate.

That doesn't mean that you shouldn't try or should quit. But if you're not a good looking guy, not born attractive, and when you get to the age of 20 your looks are below average, then it will be a struggle for you whatever you do. Your best hope is to get really rich and successful, but then, of course, you're a BB, and who'd want to be that poor, unfortunate soul, right?

People cannot accept this because we live in this insane self-improvement culture in which everyone is told they can do anything and be anything just through hard work. As I've said previously, this is promoted by social controllers as it tends to make people think society is somehow meritocratic; useful as it obviously is not.

The primary arbiter of attraction is physical attractiveness and the almost sole contributor to this is genetics. Anyone who believes otherwise is delusional.

I wouldn't say genetics is the biggest factor, I would say time is bigger. Genetics play the part of how fast one obtains the results. As a slightly chubby guy that has struggled losing weight my entire life, its not the working hard part, but how long one needs to work hard to get the desired results.

Nobody wouldn't quit their diet or workout routine if they could see the results the next day. People quit them cause it can take months to see any visible improvement, and get discouraged.

This is just plain stupid. Being fat, skinny or jacked makes a lot of difference. Being well-dressed and groomed makes a lot of difference.

Seriously, go watch some before/after fitness and makeover pictures.

And that's just looks. Then there's how you interact. Do you think you have to be nice and respectful and accomodating and ask them what they want? Are you cocky and DGAF? Are you rude and self-aggrandizing? Are you needy and validation seeking?

I'd say that if we're talking about genetic looks alone, most men are born with looks that lets them slip into the top 20% bracket. Most men don't have the genetics that code for the sort of personality that will let them do that, but I don't think that's what you're talking about.

Most (all) guys just look better when fit. They have to put in a ton more effort than girls to move several points up in physical attractiveness, but most people have a pretty decent capacity to move upwards. Even guys with weak jaws.

In most cases, I'd say you're correct, but there are extremes as well. Just imagine that 10 was 200 pounds heavier. Same exact genetics. Even a genetic 10 is going to drop down to a 5 or a 6 at that weight.
