I’m making this post because I’m getting tired of people citing the single mother statistics just to justify being assholes to single moms.

The funny thing about it is that these are the same people who get offended when women use the crime stats to be man haters:

Every category of crime except prostitution men overwhelmingly make up that category. When it comes to the most serious of crimes, it’s even worse: 96.6% of rape and 88% of murders. 93% of other sex offenses, 90% of weapons charges, 84.2% of robberies, and 79.3% of burglaries.

“But single moms-“ Single moms aren’t the ones committing these crimes. IT’S MEN. Unless you can find proof that the moms instructed their sons to do those crimes, the problem is men.

So clearly there’s no problem with the “yes, all men” meme, the “I choose the bear” meme, and the me too movement treating all men like rapists because LOOK AT THE STATISTICS!

So would you not say I just misused statistics to paint men in a negative just to push a hateful narrative?

Now let’s dissect the single mom statistics:

  • 42% of all children living in a single-parent household are considered poverty-stricken. (U.S. Census Bureau, 2018).
  • 71% of single mothers receive SNAP and TANF benefits annually. (USDA, Characteristics of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Households, Fiscal Year 2018).
  • Single mothers are seven times more likely to live in poverty than those that are married. (U.S. Census Bureau, 2018).
  • $80 billion in welfare assistance is paid out to single-parent households each year. (U.S. Government Publishing Office & US Bureau of Labor and Statistics, 2018).

For any one who has actually seen this in real life in America, this is clearly the hood or the trailer parks. I dare anyone who actually has been to these areas to tell me the sole problem is no man the house.

For example: My cousin was more affected by his mom being a literal crack whore than he was not having an adult male figure in the house. Btw, his mom was a crack whore before having him, during having him (he was a crack baby), and after having him shortly raising him with her crack addicted husband (the biological father). You gonna tell me that having a crack addicted papi in the picture would magically make that situation better enough to be a normal stable household?

Now, let me use examples of people I know came from two parent households:

My adopted sister: Born to married crackheads, was a crackbaby, one of many children, has schizophrenia, ran away from home and family allowed her to live somewhere else in middle school. Now, she’s a single mother of six and all her kids have been taken away by CPS. Her had her oldest as a teenager and showed massive behavioral problems in highschool before she dropped out.

My former friend Kelly: Born into an abusive household where her biological father, married to her mother, would vicious beat her, her mom, and her older half sister. Became addicted to drugs at a very young age, dated men who would pay for her drugs, and got abused in all ways. Keep in mind, she was from the suburbs. Also had massive behavioral problems.

There are many more examples I have, but the point is what connect these three together are the broken dysfunctional homes they come from. Despite not being raised by single mothers, the two women I used have “stereotypical single mother outcomes”.

So can we agree that most criminals are men, not that most men are criminals? If so, then most single moms dont have broken homes, most broken homes have single moms.

And for anyone complaining about single mother households being a drain on the system, Pew Research shows 43% of children with foodstamp have two parents and 33% of that 43% are married parents:
