A simple argument I heard for it include the idea that men would support their male friends who are accused of sexual assault rather than readily believe the woman.

We live in a world where treating women the way you'd treat a man under the same circumstances is misogynistic. Not automatically believing a random woman who accuses your friend of something horrible is just basic integrity for most men. Women expect deference over men in social matters so that level of fairness comes off as some sort of patriarchal solidarity.

I wouldn't automatically believe a dude over my female friends.

Men have no male ingroup preference bias while women have female ingroup bias. Some men would rather wait for evidence rather than be found guilty just on accusations alone because they know that one day it could happen to them.

I stopped believing in team men as soon as I found out that my closest friend tried to sleep with my girlfriend. It was a wake-up call for me, and it made me reject the idea of "team men" ever existing. I made a post about it if anyone is interested.

This is a problem mainly within the MGTOW spheres. They think that the average man has their back. What they don't realize is that the average man is very likely to have sex with your wife/girlfriend if he knew 100% he'd get away with it for sure and you'd never find out. Most men are not your brethren. Men are very competitive creatures by nature. We're all in competition with eachother. Most confrontations/arguments/fights I've been with were with other fellow men.

Don't get me wrong, I have lots of fellow male friends that I'm close to. But I'd never look at them through the lens of "team men."

The reverse. I've seen friendships of decades ruined because men backstab each other for some crumbs of pussy, they barely met a few weeks.

Team man exists, but only if there are no females around. Like in some army ops. The same guys who would watch each other back on the battlefield, will not hesitate to throw each other under the bus for Stacy they just met in the bar.

The whole "not like other girls" thing gets women angry because, essentially women see that as some woman putting down women in general. They use derision to attack that kind of anti-woman talk from women. They are conditioning women to only talk positively about women in general. When men talk shit about other men in general, there's a tendency of quite a few men to just think "I'm going to let them talk shit about men because they're devaluing my competition. I'll cast myself as better than those other guys". He's not defending men in general, he's finding ways to benefit from it - assuming he can cast himself as outside that the category of "one of the bad ones" (which is often what male feminists will do; conservative men will do the same thing though). Men will argue against anti-male shit-talking only if he feel like he's being included in the larger "bad men" group.

Women use the "we have to stick together" and fears of "the patriarchy oppressing all the women" to drive cooperation. Men have no easily identifiable enemy to unite against.

I'm also sure that women look at damaged members of their own gender much more sympathetically than men do. For example, women care more about homeless women than men care about homeless men.

I remember reading something a while back about how "the patriarchy" as it is believed to exist doesn't really exist. Basically, if a man was the emperor of the world, he would defend his close male allies the most. But that would only be the inner circle - his generals, advisors, etc. The next rung would be women. They would be the next most important - although only for sex, marriage, children, companionship (depending on where those women were in the hierarchy). But, the common man? They would be the lowest rung. They have no utility except to the extent that they are loyal and capable of defending him. If someone did something wrong, the emperor would have the easiest time executing other males before anyone else in his empire. On some level, all men are competition for him and are potential threats. It's definitely not "team man".

For their friends I think so. Otherwise yes and no. A lot of men will immediately take a man's side in anything, and support a man by default, to go against women, but there's a different feel to it than what women have.

I think with men it's like they have a commonality where they kind of agree on something, but the focus is on the perceived enemy. It's lacking in the unity and support of women's communities, where the focus is on the support of one another.

As a woman having an (amicable) divorce, my soon-to-be-ex-husband has had to check a surprising amount of guys (and some “I’m not like other girls” girls). No matter what, some people just root for the home team. Even when the people involved make it a point to tell everyone there are no teams, and that we have every intention of remaining friends

Interestingly, it’s a male phenomenon. I haven’t had to check any of my female friends - but a couple guy friends had to be put in their place. My ex isn’t the devil, we just didn’t work

Men definitely have natural solidarity that women are no capable of. But that solidarity is more about what benefits the man himself... So men will defend other men from rape accusations because they figure they could be in the same situation, either because they know they have the capacity to commit the act and/or they fear false accusations. Men also obviously favor other men in every area of life, like hiring, networking, voting in politics, inheritance etc. So yes, "team man" exists and in fact it is the foundation of patriarchal society.

Our culture supports men over women when it comes to rape and harassment(or did until recently). It’s not about individuals.

We just out right ignored women who spoke up for decades. It’s not about gender solidarity. It’s about a culture that didn’t care about rape and harassment. Women do it just as much as men.

I agree entirely.

Traditional male gender roles encourage men to throw each other under the bus to ascend the male hierarchy. The only way to move up is to pull other men down (the entire concept of "real men" requires some to achieve that status and some to fail). What this ultimately does is undermine male solidarity at the fundamental level, by making other men into potential threats.

There is no "Team Man."

Which leads me to make a compelling proposition: the male tendency to throw one's fellow man under the bus in order to "AMOG" is a case of Toxic Masculinity (as per the term's original usage). In addition, "Bros Before Hoes" is an anti-traditionalist stance to take.

“Team Man” only works when men had real respect, real businesses and common laws with each other, that they all believe in, civilizations were built by “Team Man”, that’s just not the case any longer, the part were the individual men benefited from it, had been lost, so are the men. Civilization weren’t build by men who fuck each other wife and then kill each other for it, there is obviously no many men left afterwards to make it happen.
