I got a pleasent job this week. It's one I did years ago, that I said I'd love to do for the rest of my life but couldn't afford to. After my 4 years living in the jungle, then group home working I'm just going to go work at a deli.

Try moving into a new house, that is completely empty, with no furniture, whose postcode is new and not yet part of satellite navigation systems, and then try to get companies to deliver furniture to your house. You will soon discover (a) how reliant we are on automated systems, that may purport to be intelligent, but actually are not, and (b) how incompetent so many people are.

I was waiting for a mattress to be delivered for 11 days, and during this time they just kept taking it to the wrong address over and over again, and then taking it back to their warehouse. They didn't even bother telling me at first, but then even when I'd spoken to the company and explained where my house is, they still kept taking it to the wrong place.

After I wrote an annoyed email to the company, they phoned up the courier to ask them what was going on, and they claimed that they'd tried to deliver it. So the company said to them, clearly you haven't tried to deliver it because the customer is sitting in his house now. And then they claimed that they'd never received the information about where my house actually is.

How many times were they going to keep taking the mattress to completely the wrong place, which was nowhere near my house, not finding an address that remotely resembled the one that they were supposed to be delivering to, and then taking the mattress back to their warehouse, without bothering to call either me or the company? They were happy to do that for two weeks, maybe they could have gone on doing it for months.

You're literally dealing with morons on a daily basis, and it's going to get worse. Do you know why? Google...how do I tie my shoelaces? Alexa...how do I wipe my own arse?

The mum of my GF / SO died of cancer yesterday. She has been through so much shit over the last year. I don't want to go over it all again, but she doesn't deserve it.

I actually ended it with her in January because I hardly saw her due to her being basically 24/7 carer for her mother, and I just felt that she wasn't in the right place to be dating. But we kept in touch, and I met up with her a couple of times. The last time I met her, I realised that I still had feelings for her, and I thought: "well, you can't say anything, you ended it, she's probably moved on, just be friends and accept the situation". So when we were out she started telling me that she hadn't moved on from me, and she still felt the same way about me.

So we were supposed to start dating again, but then I haven't seen her because her mum got really sick, went into hospital, and then her condition deteriorated this week, and I knew it was really, really bad, and I was praying that the worst wouldn't happen, but I knew objectively what was coming.

Her mum is no age. She's about my age, I think. So no sulking today PPDers. If you have your health then every day is a gift.

Last night I went out and got wasted with a few friends. My one friend jumped up on my back for a piggy back ride but I didnt see it coming so she basically just knocked us both over, and I have zero recollection of anything that happened after that point but apparently we kept drinking for a few hours. Already quit oxy but I am now off all opiates. Not even codeine, no nothing.

The withdrawals have been an utter fucking bitch but I know this is a good thing in the long term. I'm connecting to real life a lot more for certain. But there's also a feeling that I've lost what used to be a warm bubble around myself and now I'm facing a harsh reality alone. But this itself will also be a good thing in the future.

I don't want to rely on drugs to get me through life. Fuck that shit man. Bit of drugs for chillin' on the weekend fun or for psychedelic exploration yes but boshing pills daily to get through life is something I feel like I am putting behind me now.

And now I'm focusing a lot more on actually improving myself and my life rather than merely looking for ways to cope with things as they are - which is what the drugs did for me, merely a crutch. Now I don't need crutches. I am learning psychological strength coming from within, not a pill.

The US vs China thing is really heating up now. I seriously think the USA have punched themselves in the face by banning trade with Huawei.

In the short term they are directly harming US companies such as Google, Intel, and Qualcomm by doing so. The stock market has responded in kind already.

But in the long-term the US is going to seriously regret this. Currently the US pretty much owns the worldwide software market. Even Chinese smartphones sold in the West run Google Android. Now the US are trying to prevent this.

However the new sanctions on Huawei will not prevent them from using AOSP (Android open source) only the Google apps. So they will simply fork Android and make their own OS with their own ecosystem that is still compatible with existing Android apps. The massive resources and funding the second biggest smartphone maker in the entire world has will be put into a new OS and people around the world will be using both Chinese software and hardware in a year or two easy, taking business away from Google's Android. Other Chinese smartphone companies will likely follow suit, perhaps using one shared Chinese AOSP fork. Very easy to do.

Finally, China is the biggest smartphone market in the entire world and already iPhone sales have dropped significantly there. After the recent news, Chinese people started smashing their iPhones in protest and some Chinese companies even told employees if you own an iPhone you will not get your annual bonus but you will get a discount on buying a Huawei.

If you think America is patriotic China is 10x more. I can easily see Chinese government and companies making it difficult for iPhones to be produced there in retaliation. Remember Apple and Google both rely on China to make their phones (iPhones and Pixels, respectively). Without China they have no smartphones.

But China can keep making millions of phones every single fucking day without skipping a beat. All they need to do is tweak the software a bit.

The US will suffer from this. China will benefit by building a global marketshare in software as well as hardware. China is absolutely going to make it harder for American companies like Apple to do business there, not only to sell to their huge market but to manufacture their products in the first place.

TL;DR: Watch the Silicon Valley episode where Gavin Belson goes to China and the factory owner buys the tech he tries to get. The US government just did the same thing on a national scale. Lmao.

I'm a woman and I don't know what physical attraction feels like.

Right now I'm pretty sure I would consider myself demisexual, which means I can't be attracted to people that I don't know or that I don't care about that much. I only develop crushes on close friends, I only fall in love with people I have known for a long time. And by that point it doesn't matter to me what they look like, because it's their personality that made me fall in love with them, even though that sounds cringy af.

I can look at a guy and think "yeah he looks okay" but I've never had the hots for anybody I don't know. When I'm out with female friends they would all sometimes start drooling over that one guy at the bar showing of his muscles. And I just can't relate. I can't relate to finding a stranger so hot you would immediately fuck him right there and then. I can't relate to wanting to touch "his hot body" because to me he's just another guy with another body.

And I'm actually kinda glad about that. But especially in this sub I'm facing so many theories about women that I simply can't relate to and it bothers me a little.

My husband is really great! I have spent the last few weeks abroad in the EU for work. We tried to do a competition of who would get the most steps in a day but it’s just turned into us encouraging each other and being excited about things we are doing. He just helped me figure out how to navigate a difficult work situation over text- he gives the best advice on that stuff.

And he’d coming to visit in 3 DAYS!!! I got an apartment in a neighborhood I think he’ll like and I am gonna have a sampling of local beers waiting for his arrival. I got us tickets to a musical he has said he would like to see AND I have a pub crawl planned ending up in a place I think he’ll love. We are gonna walk around and hold hands and decide if we want to relocate for a long term period.

Compliments are a weird thing. I sometimes get complimented, but I've never really had men comment/thirst on my selfies. Which makes sense because hijab. I do get some compliments from my female friends. One of my popular friends, who is in my range of looks but she's chubby, gets lots of compliments from her female friends online. Though she complained about never being complimented in person. One of my fat friends gets TONS of compliments. Shes really lovely though and oozes confidence. And I have one friend who is below average in looks, and her friends tend to make comments about anything BUT her looks. Of course, my conventionally attractive friends get a lot more compliments than all of us combined tho

It does make me wonder considering how it all literally depends on your sociability when youre not hot

My husband is really, really great, y'all. He's not religious in the slightest, but he is really affirming and supportive of my own (often fraught) relationship with my religion.

Today I came home from church exhausted but feeling pretty good, all things considered. I sat down at my desk and started working, and as soon as he noticed I was home, he came by to ask how church was.

I just said "Fine," because it was, and I was busy, but he followed it up with, "It was really fine? Everyone was good to you?"

And I said yes, and he brought me some tea, but that's just... so touching? My relationship with my religion and church has been difficult lately in light of the whole gay thing. And I KNOW he doesn't give a fuck about religion, but he cares about me, enough to remember what's up with me and make sure my non-affirming church didn't do/say anything fucked up to me.

He is absolutely lovely, and I adore him.
