" According to a report from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas...marriages arranged through the mail-order services would appear to have a lower divorce rate than the nation as a whole, fully 80 percent of these marriages having lasted over the years for which reports are available."

From the book: Buying a Bride: An Engaging History of Mail-Order Matches

" Marcia Zug, a law professor at the University of South Carolina strongly supports the contention that these are not green card marriages.  One marriage agency she contacted reported 600 marriages and 21 divorces in the previous seven years."

There isn't much data regarding mail order brides, but when numbers are collected, mail order marriages are on the whole much more likely to be successful than traditional marriages, which have a divorce rate of 45 to 48 percent.

Keep in mind that the type of men who tend to do the mail order option are by default the lower stratum. If normal middle class men were to go this route, the divorce rate could very well be much lower among reasonably healthy individuals. So is the mail order bride route better than normal dating and why is there such a stigma against it?

Discuss.
