After we discovered my father’s secret life 3 years ago and I began to unpack the subtle psychological abuse he had been inflicting on me for years, I made the decision to ask him not to have any contact with me ever again. I moved to New York to get away (he still lives in Ohio) and all crucial legal and medical information from him goes through my aunt so that I do not need to interact with him. I suffer from PTSD as a result of the damage he inflicted, and any contact from him exacerbates my mental illness.

About a year ago, he “accidentally” sent me a Snapchat, at which point I told him that the next time he contacted me, I would seek a restraining order. Last night, I checked my mail to find a letter from him asking for reconciliation. No one who has my address gave it to him and my current address is not listed in the white pages since I just moved a few months ago. I feel unsafe and unable to protect myself from him because he somehow went out of his way to find my unlisted address, blatantly against my wishes for no contact. This feels like stalking.

My question is, do I have grounds for an order of protection based on these facts? I know that I am not at risk of physical harm, but I am at great risk of psychological harm, which I worry might be difficult to prove to a court.

Eh okay, here's my take.

The mod flailing around "don't assume my gender" is dumb. The original post was also a pretty innocent question.

However, OP received three (one, two, three) objective and unassuming answers directly pertaining to his original question, at which point OP got a bit upset he didn't get the answer he was looking for.
