Yup. Smart man. My step dad went through a similar situation and had to learn the hard way. His gf (at the time, he broke up with her shortly before she started denying the loan) was struggling with bills and her mortgage. My step dad lent her 5K but didn't get anything in writing. He told us he "trusted her." He ended up having to fight her in court for almost 3 years, (she kept telling the judge it was a "gift") but he ended up getting his 5K back, and lost wages from lost work days. I believe she also paid for his lawyer fees as well. Always get everything in writing. Even if you trust the person. If they get offended, that's a little bit of a red flag for me.

Or you could just get it notorized for like $4. An official seal of witness by a non related 3rd party. You don't even have to sign it at the same time if you get two different stamps. Not saying this isn't smart but there are other ways if you want to be more professional than videoing it. But maybe, overall, 1. Don't try to fuck over someone who literally filmed you signing a contract 2. Don't go into contract with someone you think plans to fuck you.

The problem I have with this show though is the way JJ fucking treats people. Like all she had to do is shut the fuck up for a minute and let him present his evidence. She's always speaking over people instead of letting them explain their situation to the best of their ability and present the evidence that supports their statement. I did all of my divorce proceedings, except the original divorce settlement, self represented. I will say the Judge Judy taught me a lot about courtroom etiquette, and how to address the court. This was no small undertaking. I am thankful for her wisdom. If I would have had a lawyer, today I would be broke and homeless. I am sure of that.
