I have a PhD (in tech) and while I don't consider a scientist myself (also no respectable scientist call himself a scientist) I worked many years with very bright scientists in a lab.

This post is very accurate, I will add some points:

You almost never have direct access to science results, no matter what you see in the news. It's always through a web-site, a magazine, a news channel. Those middle-men always simplify and distort the science results for their benefit, to the point of sometimes stating completely opposite results than the actual scientists. You want to read the truth? go to the source: The actual article. And many times, if you are not an expert in the field you could easily misinterpret the conclusions of the article. Not to mention, many, many articles and studies are subsequently proven 100% wrong.
Even scientists fool themselves from time to time, the scientific method is nothing but a series of steps to not fooling yourself because you are the easiest person to fool.
Real men of science are never sure of anything because they know their results are only approximations of the truth. It's for me, the easiest way to separate a charlatan from a scientist: The scientist always have doubts because he remember all the times he made mistakes in the past.

Do they obfuscate their findings or arguments through word salad? Are they unable to break down complex ideas into more manageable chunks for the layman? NARS

Just to add to what you've written, I think laymen don't realize how much money is involved in academic science, and this goes double for the private institutions trying to get rich off of scientific discoveries too.

If you don't publish, you do not get funding. Period.

And in academia, you cannot publish the null hypothesis. You cannot as a scientist publish a paper that says "we tested that X would happen but it did not, and thus our results confirm the null hypothesis". You can only be published if you test for X and find X, or if you find Y, which if you're lucky is also interesting. My point is that you cannot test ideas freely, you must always be working within an agenda - because if you don't publish, your organization will not get grants, and if your organization does not get grants, the organization and your career are over.

So scientists will go out of their way to dig for any result that confirms their expectations and publish it. I've worked in academia and there are ways to present statistics that can work for you or against you, regardless of what the actual results are. And the career scientists who make it to the top, are ultimately the ones who are the best at playing the academic career game, and not necessarily the ones who are idealistic about scientific inquiry for its own sake.

How did scientists come to the conclusion decades ago that eating carbs is better for you than eating protein and fat? They probably did one narrow-minded study, found some particular case where eating some quantity of carbs gave a better result than eating some quantity of fat, and then all the other scientists jumped on the bandwagon for the sake of their career development. All that matters is that those scientists who concluded that carbs are better for you than fat were being offered grants and prestige. I wouldn't even be surprised if cereal companies were the ones offering money to these scientists - and I wouldn't be surprised if big pharma were paying for a lot of the "science" going on right now.

I worked in a science lab for 4 years until I realized that I wouldn't succeed in the political game and chose to leave. Also, academia is incredibly left-wing in temperament overall. One of my colleagues pretended to be a lesbian throughout her PhD because being gay is fashionable right now, until she graduated and is now living with some ex-military dude. My only point with this example is that most scientists are just regular people, they are not de facto beacons of truth.

The result imo is that anyone who is a stickler for the truth (aka an actual scientist) will get shoved out of academia before they can turn it into a successful career. Of course I am speaking generally and it depends on the particular field of research as well, but overall this was my experience and what I've seen.

I was raised (50%) by a passionate biologist of a mother, who hammered the scientific method into my head at a young age. A decade ago I would engage in intellectually stimulating conversation with friends and coworkers from the viewpoint that there were very few things I was willing to say concretely. Most people I spoke with told me they “believed” certain things about the topic of our discussions. Their need to believe in concrete facts was such a glaring weakness. Very few were willing to let go and come float around in the void with me no matter how many questions I raised. Their need to believe is a form of cowardice that leaves them in the high risk category for contracting a bad case of NARS.

We don’t know a whole lot with certainty. That fact in no way stops me from making informed decisions. Facing uncertainty requires bravery. It is undoubtedly easier to let a set of unsubstantiated beliefs guide your decision making, often putting faith in an untestable higher power to give you what you “need” (however positive or negative the outcome may seem). It is however much wiser to control your outcomes to the best of your ability and note the undesirable ones in order to adjust variables and controls until the desired outcome is reached.

What is the point of this post? To discredit that Covid is not a real epidemic? To discredit that the vaccine does not work and is not safe? Are you an actual scientist? Because as a health care worker and lover of research and evidence based articles I can tell you that both the epidemic is real (because I treat covid positive patients and seen many patients die from it) and have taken the vaccine and can actually link studies and articles of its safety and efficacy. Also, hypertension, and diabetes (which is correlated to, surprise, surprise, obesity) is shown to greatly affect mortality regarding covid-19 infection.

Nope. The only thing being advocated by this text is to be skeptical about vaccines although you have a lot of data showing efficiency, and a bunch of Karens preaching against it because "reasons" (Chinese virus, 5G chip, infertility etc). However, the only reason conservatives are against it is because liberals are in favor, therefore scientists "are invalid" (even though Trump financed the research). Red Pill is not about what we want reality to be, is about facing the reality for what it is and right now better with the vaccine than without it, sorry if it is a hard, big, bitter, red pill to swallow.

While the existence and threat of Covid-19 is undeniable, the circumstances and how certain groups have reacted is suspicious.

Big Pharma companies rushing vaccines in record time and saying its safe, but pulling all accountability by not assuming legal responsibility for the side effects of vaccines.
The FDA, WHO and co banning, censoring and discrediting anything to do with non-vaccine treatments (eg: Ivermectin, Hydroxychloroquine, Common Sense etc.). Anything not fitting "the vaccine narrative as the only solution".
NARSs running the show through fear, intimidation and self pro-claimed expertise.
How easily the public has been brain-washed by any and all sides to accept vaccines, even by themselves.
The actual mysterious origin of Covid-19..
How governments have easily taken away the rights of people, and people don't even oppose them on principle.

The veils have been pulled open. The Matrix laid bare before our eyes. The worst part? People have been plugged into the Matrix for so long, they are only used to seeing the shadows on the wall, without comprehension of what has been causing the shadows on the wall. There have been so many deaths, miscarriages, and adverse side effects from this new vaccine, at some point there is going to be a whole lot of "experts" eating crow. They can't keep ignoring this forever.

And as it's increasingly becoming obvious that even with the vaxx, you can still catch the virus and die from it, the whole "the risk of side effects is worth it" argument is falling flat as well.

I agree that we need to raise the bar as a society for truth. However - in a world where we don't have objective standards for truth, is a world were there is no truth. These are the best prophets we have right now. Without them it would be worse, and it is worse as most walmart dwellers genuinely think science is found on their facebook feed.

This isn't quite true. Even the most rigorous scientists are FORCED to publish in high-impact journals, and most of those journals are for-profit. Very few reports in say Science get "open access", at least for some time, and those are usually they ones done for the "greater good". I think the initial genetic sequence of COVID was published in such a for-profit journal but the article was open-access.
