You don't have to read very far into the article to see the classic pattern.

It's the guy's fault he's boring. It's Amazon's fault that so many boring guys are moving here.

Tell us your woes, sweetie.

In Seattle, it has been easy to hook up

No kidding.

I am a journalist, so I am very good at asking questions to get people to talk about themselves.

But not so good at observing. And not one word about what she has to offer in a relationship.

Entitlement indeed.

[–]Menadian 38 points39 points40 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol. She says she is good for making people talk about themselves but dislikes when they talk about themselves XD

[–]TRP VanguardCyralea 39 points40 points41 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Princess mentality. Tall, rich alphas with winning personalities and can cook, clean and roof your house simultaneously should be chasing her. What do you mean they can go for hotter girls? What shitlords!

The idea that they are a market commodity with a very real priced value is completely offensive to their thinking.

[–]watersign 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can confirm. Carousel riding is alive and well here.

The type of person who is attracted to these jobs and thus to the Seattle area seems to be a socially awkward, emotionally stunted, sheltered, strangely entitled, and/or a misogynistic individual

Entitled is now the new word.

Interesting. Because this whole article reeks of entitlement. "I should be able to find a tall handsome man who makes lots of money and who isn't boooring and who appreciates me for the precious snowflake I am even though I'm overweight and over 30."

She's not hideous, but she's a far cry from gorgeous (disclaimer: gay guy here, so I could be off-base). I.e. I don't think she's in a position to be extremely picky. She could be happy if she relaxed her ridiculous standards and gave one of her handsome tall bearded boring dudes enough of a chance to open up.

Hah. Well, I can relate to those poor saps: my work is pretty technical, it's been a challenge in the dating world. My partner's brain is not technical at all and he probably does not understand a word I say when I blather on about work, but he does listen politely.

[–]user0159 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Not trying to be oneitisy here but that's why I was all about this 9 (if the author is a 6 or 7) , comp Sci major girl who was pretty nerdy but still liked to party hard and maybe try a psychoactive substance or two and would make me finish even if I was to tired to do the work myself. Unfortunately this was pre-redpill and looking back I fucked up hardcore .

If she measures a 6 or a 7, you know you need to recalibrate your scale.

[–]user0159 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was just quoting the guy before me, I'd say she was at least a 7, which I was OK with at engineering school.

I wouldn't do a whole post because that's just attention-seeking, and most guys at TRP aren't interested. But if there were a clear need, I'd do it.

Red pill is important for work as well as play if your work environment includes a sizeable fraction of women. Keeping frame at work is critical to getting ahead or even not being shat upon.

Also (in my opinion and probably that of many if not most gay men) the more authentically masculine you are, the more attractive you are to other gay men. Fun fact: I discovered that I could creep my partner out simply by putting on the femme - it's fun to torture him with faux swishiness until he yells STOP JUST STOP!.

[–]1iluminatiNYC 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's real regular to me. I agree with the 6 rating. She's cute enough to date, but she isn't THAT special.

I'm in the Bay Area, I don't date girls over 30 because I find them socially awkward, emotionally stunted, sheltered, strangely entitled, and/or a misandrist individuals with baby rabies.

The best plates I am spinning right now are 23, 23, 26 and 27. I couldn't be happier.

The news flash on this girl is the more interesting men are not interested in her.

5 is generous. Hell, I'm 50 and recently made paraplegic (lucky the goods still work, lol) and can still do much better than her.

Also, thanks to TRP for bringing me back to frame after my injury. A healthy self image makes a huge difference.

Ok, ok, I gotta confess.

Looks like a good dick-slurping grin. Call me standardless, but there's these details...

So, after complimenting the author, read the article and: I admit they sound boring as fuck. Really, I do, if all they can do is talk of their work.

But when you remember all the dating conversations - how many women manage not to bore the balls off you?

It's all bullshit. If she was sexually attracted to them they would be "soooo passionate about their work. God I love men who know what they want!"

[–]1Zanford 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]Lipophobicity 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She looks like she should be helping Jack Bauer disarm a terrorist security system, which is forunate because she writes like a high school student ranting on livejournal

[–]Redpiller456 12 points13 points14 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Definitely nothing to write home about. Average at best in my book. She may have been more attractive when she was younger, but now she rates at a 5 or a 6 (and it can only go downhill from there). Yet she still deserves a top 10% male cuz hypergamy.

A lot of these women would be so much happier if they were open to dating the pool of men that rated on the same scale. Maybe she could get away with dating a 6 or 7 male, but she is entitled to that 8-10 alpha bad boy that has money, looks, and is a social connoisseur. I'm convinced that these women just can't be happy with anything. Hypergamy is a thirst that cannot be quenched.

[–]galt88 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

hard to judge attractiveness from a photo at that angle. Top-down angles typically accentuate female attractiveness (mimics natural height difference in men-women sight), so shes probably more unattractive than this photo lets on

Seriously?! I've lived in San Francisco, Seattle, etc. and almost certainly encountered at least 10x as many tech bros as she's dated. There are a plethora of perfectly friendly, non-self absorbed/etc. etc. tech men out there. It just so happens that many of them are snapped up by rational women far before her age...

Even if that weren't the case, I'm sure the men find her and her "quirkiness" that she's so proud of equally uninteresting. They can also probably sense her feelings ("their development as a complete human being seemed to be stunted"), which are frankly completely insulting.

[–]OsoFeo 57 points58 points59 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The lack of empathy/compassion for men is astounding. That is the real reason she's single.

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points26 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lack of empathy is par for the course, add contempt to that though, then you've got a winner. This woman oozes contempt for men. Only a desperate fool would bite on that line.

[–]1ww1ww1 39 points40 points41 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

“They’re not purely macho or purely geeky, they’re somewhat pretenders in both, and I would imagine that’s very obvious to most women.”

How dare they don't fit into one mold, and instead have a variety of interests!

[–]1FloranHunter 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think she's actually right about how most women see unstereotypically geeky guys. If they're going to date a geek then they want to accessorize a geek, not a person with geeky hobbies. That means you have to enjoy all of the classic geek activities like superhero comics, star trek and fixing computers.

Actually geeky girls don't have this problem with geeky guys. They might do the same for non-geeks though.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

That's actually very true. I am somewhat of a geek (or rather "should" be). My ex often got angry with me and my "bro" like circle of friends for not acting like the geeks she thought we were going to be as software designers. She said "its like they are trying to change who they are"... yeah bcz you know what they really are right? Bitch.

[–]the_pin 37 points38 points39 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"I am smart, my brain is abstract" =someone not smart

This article is a pretty hilarious read. It basically sums up the modern woman/feminist. If you need the cliff notes version: "I am perfect the way I am, I am interesting, I have no control over what we talk about, I should never have to change/I am perfect the way I am; I deserve everything I want and shouldn't have to work for it."

It is the weak males that are to blame honestly; women have been getting their way simply by complaining for a long time, and it has been allowed to happen. sickens me

[–]garlicextract 34 points35 points36 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Since I am not in the tech industry, I don’t understand any of it. It was all job speak—the type of language ladder-climbers use; it was the kind of talk that shuts vaginas down cold.

Well, as much as people might dislike the article, there's some stone cold RP right there.

[–][deleted] 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–]rockmasterflex 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep. Ladder talkers talk about business plays. They talk about strategy. Literally no one cares how your C# program works. They might wet their panties if you told them you personally saved the company 2.5 million dollars a year with it, and got some major props from the CEO.

[–]FortunateBum 37 points38 points39 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

When I went to Paris, I went on OKCupid dates with several men as a way to see the city and perhaps have a romantic excursion; one worked at a movie production studio, another was a video editor; one guy worked in finance; another was an interior designer. Each one was thoroughly different than the other.

Maybe women should stop expecting men to provide entertainment.

Yeah, never going to happen. Just kidding.

Good article about this from Roosh:

http://www.rooshv.com/men-are-nothing-more-than-clowns-to-the-modern-woman

Holy shit, just glanced at the Roosh article and saw this sentence:

Women don’t seek out comfort or stability in men anymore—they seek entertainment. They seek distraction. They seek hedonistic pleasure.

[–]user_none 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And that describes around 90% of the female profiles I see on OkCupid. List of traits desired: "you have to make me laugh." Every single one of those profiles are immediately skipped by me. Entitled princess that wants a circus act, nothing more than a trained monkey.

[–]BelievableEscort[🍰] 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And what does that say about what they are being distracted from, they must be boring and sad individuals to have such a high need for entertainment and happiness - very exploitable traits though.

[–]monsieurhire2 25 points26 points27 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Can you feel the hatred for men emanating from every word she writes? It's rare to see a man write something like this and have it published in a mainstream publication. These guys are horrible because they worked to get jobs so they could pay their bills and court women by taking them to restaurants, exactly as they had been indoctrinated to do . . . but it makes them horrible people, according to her, the would-be beneficiary of their largesse.

Edit:

She keeps whining about how great the artist, sculptors, puppeteers were. So . . . why isn't she dating them? What's she's really mad about is how now that she wants a guy with money, she'll probably have to settle for a less exciting personality than she's used to. That's what this is really about. She's ditching guys with no money so she can have a comfortable life, but now she's going to gripe about it in the hopes that the tech-bros will put on airs to win her affections.

[–]tsotha 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She keeps whining about how great the artist, sculptors, puppeteers were. So . . . why isn't she dating them?

To be fair to her, the idea those kinds of people were all driven out when techies with lots of disposable income drove up rents has a basis in fact.

The problem is if you removed all the programmers you'd see an article from her about how she's tired of dating penniless artists and is ready for a man who can support a family.

[–]monsieurhire2 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nah, that's BS; they didn't all move out of state, they just moved to different, less-hip neighborhoods. Don't believe her bullshit.

[–]jjshinobi 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Why can't women shut down their hypergamous intentions, provide their own comfort and stability, before choosing a man?

[–]monsieurhire2 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, that's why they go and get careers. They're trying to demonstrate value to the men they are ultimately gunning for by saying, "See, I can make my own money. I don't need you for your wealth, therefore I'm better than those other females."

There are several problems with this. One is they always seem to want guys with more than them. By making more themselves, they shrink the pool of eligible bachelors. Their expectations have become unrealistically high. Add to that the arms race, competitive nature of modern romance, and it makes it even worse as they try to outdo their friends. The other problem is they make themselves less competitive with younger women, who guys make money to seduce in the first place. No guy that slaves away to make lots of money is going to choose a 30+ year old careerist if he can get a younger, hotter prize. So that shrinks the pool down to rich bachelors who are too beta to get the 20 year old chicks, and of course the 30+ year old careerist will be turned off by their beta-ness.

What they REALLY want, and it's a fantasy you'll see repeated in all media geared towards them, is the rich, powerful good-looking alpha guy who looks young, and can powerfuck them, voluntarily choose their dried-up ass over some young thing, like in Sex and the City where Mr. Big marries some young woman, but then ultimately ditches her for Carrie because she's just that amazing, when the reality is, there isn't that much difference between them, and Carrie acts like an overgrown spoiled child anyway.

[–]jjshinobi 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see. They feel men can't be entitled to also filter their partners by their BMI, age, or income. As if I have to choose someone that I'll end up supporting. These broads are crazy.

[–]trpMilo 51 points52 points53 points 12 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Jesus, if a dude wrote a piece in Salon about how all the women in a particular city were undateable he'd be lynched

[–]bama79rolltide 14 points15 points16 points 12 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Especially if Jesus himself wrote that article.

[–]ColdEiric 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Jesus could say whatever he wanted to say, because of how charismatic he could be, but thank God, he didn't waste time talking bullshit like this.

[–]fiat_lux_ 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

While I'm not religious, one takeaway I got from the new testament that I appreciated was the emphasis on how Jesus was not in fact that charismatic. It was stressed that he was a homely person and surrounded himself with rejects. One of the most incredible/miraculous events was his resurrection, and it was women (low credibility and seen even back then as being prone to hysteria) who first found his empty tomb. This point is often brought up by biblical scholars, as a point in favour of veracity of the bible. I don't buy it as a strong argument, but the point is still appreciable. There are quite a few decent attempts to show that the right message is more important than the bearer of the message (whether that person be ugly sob, a leper, a woman, whatever). So I don't think Jesus could have said whatever he wanted to say while being carried by charisma.

[–]ColdEiric 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Charisma is not looks. Charisma is to be present for your audience, instead of being socially clueless.

[–]bama79rolltide 63 points64 points65 points 12 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

The author says:

"The biggest thing, the thing that bothered me the most is I felt like my intelligence was greatly devalued,” she wrote. ”I am a smart woman. I have a master’s from Berkeley in philosophy. My brain is very abstract, though, the exact opposite of so many men in tech who have very concrete/literal brains. They interpreted information as intelligence. I constantly felt like I wasn’t seen or valued by them, even though I experienced a lot of them as having a very limited view of the world.”

So, she needs to feel smarter than the man she is with.

[–]aphelion3342 34 points35 points36 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, that's kind of how media as a whole operates - the underlying assumption that the woman is smarter than the man. So it's not surprising that she would expect such a thing.

Funny, it's almost as if smarter people are capable of working in positions that pay a lot more than journalism. Like tech. There must be some unseen force preventing her philosophy degree from paying out 6-figures. I can't think of what that might be, but it must be a man's fault, somehow.

She feels inadequate around these men and her hamster is finding ways to feel smarter. The same way that dumb people often say "He may be book-smart, but I'm street-smart".

[–]esproductions 13 points14 points15 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's probably not street-smart either, or else she wouldn't be writing such a shit article.

[–]MalcolmDrake 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I've always disliked that term. "Street smart" is just a way for dumb people to be able to use the word smart to describe themselves.

[–]2emptyform14 points15 points16 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's more of a synonym for "social intelligence", which some otherwise dumb people can have plenty of, and otherwise intelligent people can lack. I think it's often a function of social experience, which a lot of smart kids don't get nearly as much as their dumber peers growing up. I also think some smart people can develop a bitter superiority complex to most people and don't motivate themselves to learn how to play social games.

[–]xx3345 -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I also think some smart people can develop a bitter superiority complex to most people and don't motivate themselves to learn how to play social games.

It's not that, it's just sheer disinterest and exhaustion. If the population had all high IQ people, most people would not develop the 'complex'. It's more not being on the save wavelength then anything else.

The reason they are not motivated to play is complex, don't try to trivialize it, many intelligent kids were traumatized as kids growing up to clueless parents. Theres a huge number of reasons why intelligent kids don't get socially skilled.

I too have seen My Name Is Earl.

[–]esproductions 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually, I would argue that software engineers are very smart, in that they are able to solve problems with both logic and abstract thinking. Revolutionary technology breakthroughs are the product of outside-of-the-box thinking, not a bunch of boring dudes who sit blankly at a computer typing out code without thinking. This woman clearly doesn't realize that maybe her intelligence is undervalued because well, she's not as smart as she thinks, and perhaps the men she thinks shes better than has no interest in her.

Although some programmers I know are kind of boring, many of them are eccentric individuals who's weirdness is certainly fun to be around.

[–]tsotha 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What's really bothering her is these men don't accept a master's degree from Berkeley as an indication of high intelligence. She wants to say things like "men are intimidated by my intelligence," but she can't because they aren't in the slightest.

In fact, it's the other way around. The part about "concrete/literal brains" is her telling herself that even though these guys would double her score on an IQ test there's something about the way she thinks that's somehow better.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points22 points 12 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

'They interpret information as intelligence.' Lol! Uh... yeah! In the absence of giving someone a math test during a conversation (and I highly doubt she means that she can do math when she says 'abstract'), having some interesting facts that you can discuss with some nuance is how you demonstrate intelligence. Having a bitchy 'I'm smarter than you' attitude isn't part of the package. I get very sick of that crap. Just because you say 'I'm smart' doesn't mean I'm going to believe you. I will ask you your thoughts on classic English or American lit, Greek philosophy, biology, math, history, etc. Either you have something interesting to say or you don't. I also have a personal pet peeve for highly specialized minds. Nothing is more boring than having a conversation with someone who considers themselves an 'intellectual' but only has an in depth understanding of one topic.

EDIT: typos

[–]rapreaper 8 points9 points10 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The reason why we consider information to be intelligence is probably because even though information isn't intelligence, the ability to acquire a lot of in-depth knowledge on a few or many topics or skills shows the ability to understand difficult and complex data and interpret it which shows intelligence.

[–]1Gavlan_Wheel 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My brain is very abstract, though, the exact opposite of so many men in tech who have very concrete/literal brains

Translation: "Let's talk about the meaning of life and nothing with any real answers. Oh, you want to talk about real things with real solutions? Oh, sorry, my super smart brain is just not wired that way!"

[–]bh3244 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My brain is very abstract, though, the exact opposite of so many men in tech who have very concrete/literal brains. They interpreted information as intelligence. I constantly felt like I wasn’t seen or valued by them, even though I experienced a lot of them as having a very limited view of the world.

why does she care if they think shes smart? its the same thing as ghetto welfare recipients buying things they cant afford. the really rich men dont ride around in flashy lambos, they dont drive their own cars. if youre intelligent you have nothing to show off, there is no question about it.

[–]DrXaos 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The solipsistic hypocrisy is astounding, especially from somebody with a graduate degree in, of all things, philosophy which has as a central virtue self critical self examination of thoughts, implicit assumptions and logical consistency.

"I wasn't valued for my intelligence." Then proceeds to devalue and collectively insult an entire cohort of successful capable men for their kind of intelligence without the slightest hint of self reflection, much less empathy.

Can someone find out how I can "get a date with her"?

I'll do a write-up about it, mainly to air out the (likely) hilarious opposite side of this tale. I bet he was smart enough to figure out that since she sits at her computer inside her apartment with no human contact all day, that SHE was the one with no personality.

[–]2johnnight 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I spent a half hour or more listening to him talk about his job.

Did she talk at all? Or was she expecting just to be entertained the whole time? It's like Rosh said, modern women want clowns.

I remember a field report or something. The guy went to a date and spoke the whole time. The girl said absolutely nothing. Empty face, no interaction.

He came to the conclusion that he failed. He did not call her again. Some days later a friend tells him that she wonders why he is not calling her again, because she really enjoyed the date.

And that is the modern woman. An empty shell. A vagina to be entertained by the horny male clowns.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is hilarious. She says several times "it seems like men from Seattle are only interested in hooking up and not commitment. Therefore there is a misogynistic slant to the whole city and tech scene."

It never occurs to her that the men are simply only interested in hooking up WITH HER - for an attractive, younger woman with a better personality and career / passion of her own, there's countless guys in Seattle who would leap to be that girl's husband. Seattle is full of beta bucks and an overabundance of males similar to the Bay Area... she even writes about this. If you cannot get commitment there, it's 100% because you are a shitty-tier woman or are trying to compete with 20 year olds for high value guys.

Feminists can scream about how wrong the cliche of a 30+ year old woman being desperate for marriage and miserable is. They can invent all sort of rationalizations for why a 30+ year old single woman shouldn't admit to themselves they suck, seek help, try to improve their SMV what little they can, and just take whatever guy will be willing to take their used goods. But no amount of hamstering can make a guy marry you or truly make you happy. Realizing what happens to women as they cross 30 has dissolved any and all bitterness I have towards women. When I see a 20 year old acting like she's the shit, expecting society to bend over backwards for her because she's hot and young, and therefore basically THE hottest commodity on the planet, I no longer even get annoyed. It's the way it's meant to be because this girl, this girl who will be treated like a princess, like a celebrity while she's beautiful... will eventually turn 35. In many cases the hotter she was and the better she was able to 'juice' men around her for validation and money, the more wretched she will be when she abruptly loses that ability.

Also, I truly, truly love the rage that useless-degree'd bitches (men and women TBH) express when others do not take their "intelligence" seriously. I love philosophy, but you could read it all day and take a million college courses on it, and you still wouldn't have the skills you need to manage a fucking McDonalds. If you are your typical girl with a useless major in sociology or some shit, then I will respect your opinion if I ever am curious about what's going on with the Kardashians, fashion, what's trending on pinterest, or what humanitarian causes are soooo important despite you knowing nothing of the geo-political concerns have that created them. I am a full believer in letting someone educate you if they know more than you in a particular area, so if I ever want to learn about those areas, I'll respectfully listen. When a woman talks about things that are not in what I have determined to be her areas of expertise, I can literally feel my brain being degraded with the hamster-info. Especially given the socialist / hyperliberal slant that all young girls are indoctrinated with in public school / college. No, we're not talking about whether we should raise taxes on the top 1% if you've never taken anything beyond econ 101, and NO, if you don't even understand the basic sides of the healthcare debate and what concerns / agendas each side has, I'm not interested in your 2c.

He hasn't got game, but he's got some semblance of confidence and plenty of money to blow on some unappreciative hag who returns home to blog about the fact that Mr. Boring didn't slip her the D in his beat up car. Typical post-wall entitlement complex. Interesting read.

[–]2Overkillengine 6 points7 points8 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why should they be?

She needs to realize her value as dating/long term relationship material is not enough to stimulate any effort from the quality of man she wants, much less the ones she was dating, which might explain why they were boring.

Men that make enough to not need or want a sugar momma aren't going to value a woman's career much beyond displaying self sufficiency on her part.

She's not young anymore, so now basically all she has to trade on is her personality as a person and her writing implies she has not really made much effort to be appealing on that end.

When women complain about the lack of good men, they really should be taking the red pill and asking of themselves why good men are having nothing to do with them and fixing themselves instead of acting entitled to the world changing to suit them.

But whatever. Seeing a decade plus of this behavior just tells me I should invest in companies that make cat litter.

[–]1BadgerBurger 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Couple takeaways:

1) Don't take girls on expensive dates, especially as a first date.

If you're here, you likely already knew that, but it bears repeating. Any decently attractive girl has been to those restaurants and bars. I think this is the classic flaw of assuming one sex is attracted to the same thing they are. If you're a man, you probably had to work to get your life right so you can go to a fancy place. Women don't have to.

Instead, do something active. I actually like driving range + drinks after as a first date if the chick has any interest in golf.

2) Someone else said it, but chicks travel to turn their vagina into a UN convention. See: her comment about Paris.

3) Get your threads game right. She made fun of guys who wear the backpacks given to them by Amazon. Girls are judging you on your appearance. Wear clothes that suit you and fit right. It really is that important. And girls notice small details - nice shoes, nice watch, nice sunglasses (and quit making that excuse that you just lose sunglasses).

4) Do not define yourself with your job. She spends the whole article shitting on people with solid careers. She even threw in some shitting on lawyers and finance. Being passionate about your job is good. Thinking it will impress someone isn't.

5) Damn I feel sorry for you dudes in Seattle and the Bay. Hypergamy is at full throttle.

[–]Raw_God 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

1 is a great point - the author looks down on men for spending their newfound cash on fancy cocktails. Meanwhile she's been treated to free drinks since she was 21 (or earlier) and these men have had to work long and hard to get that good tech job.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is so true. Had an issue with a girl a while ago, and one of the elements may have been that she thought my spending money of her (just a couple of inexpensive dinners) was trying to buy her. In actual fact I had come into decent money finally and was more into the novelty of being able to splash out without caring about the (not particularly large) bill... Oh well... Just another reason for this to be true I suppose

In Seattle, it has been easy to hook up, but hard to find anyone really interesting or worthwhile for the long term.

This says quite a bit about our "journalist" OP. Someone made a post about the jobs that women hold. A female journalist is one of the most narcissistic types of women out there. You can almost hear her telling someone at a bar "yeah, I'm a journalist"

Anyway. What it tells us about this woman is that she is not high value. She is able to "hook up" because she is average, and any alpha will fuck her once or twice, but she is not high value enough to date. She hamsters this by turning it around and blaming the men, that they aren't good enough. No. Men are good enough to fuck, women are good enough to date. She is nothing but an alpha cum dumpster. She isn't worth a relationship. The rest of her article is just noise.

Basically this article can be summed up as:

artists > any other male job

I never really understand why artists hold such sway over women, probably because they are a sort of peacocking handicap type of sexual advertising (look! I produce valueless commodities, but I survive anyway despite this obvious handicap. I'm also unpredictable, you should date me!)

[–]DanG3 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Unpredictable" is the Red Pill takeaway. Vis-a-vis, Captain Jack Sparrow.

[–]beginner_ 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, I spent a half hour or more listening to him talk about his job. Since I am not in the tech industry, I don’t understand any of it. It was all job speak—the type of language ladder-climbers use; it was the kind of talk that shuts vaginas down cold.

Too be fair maybe she has a point here. Talking about your job to someone you just met is pretty boring. I would never do that and would change the subject if it happens or even end the date. I mean it shows they don't do anything but work if they can only talk about work. If they could talk about a hobby or their last vacation to <insert interesting place here> they would not appear this boring.

Now I'm not defending her article and attitude at all, just stating that the guys she met probably were in fact lame betas with good income but 0 personality.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's a difference between declaring a major and having the capability to complete it. Obviously if someone dumps engineering in favor of business, they weren't good at math to begin with.

Anyone can declare an engineering major, even someone as retarded as you. However, that doesn't mean you'll be able to successfully complete the degree.

[–]watersign 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

lol, i used to think engineering was some kind of mythical career that led to high pay and a safe future. It's actually the opposite. I know kids who have finance/accounting degrees who pull down more than your average engineer and the work they do is half as stressful.

[–]Venividivixii 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It really depends on your degree and how educated you are. I was making 100k+ soon after college, but most people start around 60k-75k and within a few years are approaching the six figure mark. 100k+ is a very common salary for an experienced (5+ years) engineer, especially if you have a master's degree.

[–]watersign 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

i know this, my uncle is an engineer. the work is hard, you have the weight of the world on your shoulders and you dont make that much money IMO. think about it..a "product manager' at facebook who doesnt even code probably pulls 6 figures...just to make sure those blue buttons on their GUI are 'right'.

[–]Venividivixii 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure but those jobs aren't nearly as common as engineering jobs are. There are millions of engineers with 6 figure salaries, but you'd be hard pressed to find 100 thousand developers that make that kind of salary.
