Most people now a days instinctively and habitually check their phones every 3 or 4 seconds without reason...I wouldn't count this as much of an indicator for anything.

[–]gadelat 6 points7 points8 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
How do you find when it fails if you are not sure they are looking?
[–]Trygle 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Because I have a watch, they have a phone.
Phones take time to get out. No fidget means no time checking, most likely.
[–]gadelat 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You misunderstood. This trick is to check if they are looking. You can't be sure what is success rate of this method if you don't know if they are looking. If they are looking and won't react on your trick, you can't know if it's because they weren't looking or because this method does not worked on them.

I do a similar thing with cracking my knuckles. I've found that if I see someone else crack their knuckles I immediatly have the urge to do so as well. Not as effective as the yawn or watch trick because not everyone cracks their knuckles, but if you catch someone on knuckles and one of the others it be extra verification.
[–]roflharrisgun -4 points-3 points-2 points 13 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Use this, the trick op said doesn't work at all as yawning is contagious and even your family will yawn if you yawn, it's not a sign of attraction at all
[–]ReppinDaBurgh 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Dear oh dear. That is out of date:
http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/thoughtful-animal/2012/05/17/contagious-yawning-evidence-of-empathy/
At first, scientists thought that yawning was a mechanism designed to keep the brain cool. However, it turns out that there is a correlation between the susceptibility for contagious yawning and self-reported empathy. Humans who performed better at theory of mind tasks (a cognitive building block required for empathy) also yawn contagiously more often. And two conditions that have been associated with poorer performance on theory of mind tasks are also associated with reduced or absent contagious yawning: schizotypy and autism.

http://www.tutis.ca/Senses/L9Auditory/Guggisberg.pdf
In humans and some other mammals, yawning is part of the action repertoire of advanced empathic and social skills.

Isn't it assonance if you're using vowels?
[–]EklyM 13 points14 points15 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Are you an assonance if you correct me? :3
[–]jesusrambo4 points 13 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link
It's a form of assonance, but assonance in general is just matching vowel sounds within the word, not necessarily at the end
[–]GiantDeviantPiano 7 points8 points9 points 13 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
the start
[–]Tofon 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link
Alliteration is repeating a sound at the beginning of a word. Assonance is repeating a vowel sound anywhere in a word.
e.g. Vomit on his sweata already, mom's spaghetti.
In this line from the Eminem song "Lose Yourself" the repeated "ah" sound is assonance. I bolded the relevant sounds.
Conversely consonance repeats consonant's sounds in close concurrence. That line is an example of alliteration as well because the words all start with the hard C sound.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Alliteration refers specifically to consonants.
[–]Tofon 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Technically alliteration is the repetition of the stressed consonants in a line, but in common use it has simply come to mean the repetition of a consonant or sound at the beginning of the word. Depending on where you look you'll generally find some combination of these definitions.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That is my biggest problem. I recently completely blew it and made things very awkward with a girl whom I was getting along with really really well because of this. I don't know if there's any salvaging it at this point, and it's killing me...
[–]Xenc 4 points5 points6 points 13 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Salvage it, you're probably overthinking.
[–]MisterMisfit 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I hope so. I'm going to be very clear about what I want from her the next time I see her, there's not much more to lose with her now anyway.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Care to share? We might be able to point out what went wrong (if), and what could you do to salvage it.
[–]MisterMisfit 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It's ridiculous and sort of juvenile: I went out with her constantly for 2 months, doing nothing more with her than a good hug or a kiss on the cheek from me and just joking around (yeah sometimes about sex and whatnot). The reason for me at the time was that this girl is the type that's super friendly with all guys she knows (and she knows many), and she jokes around with them this way as well, so I was never really sure if she was interested. I enjoyed her company, so I didn't want to make a move and make it awkward and lose her as a friend too, so idiot me got the idea to test the waters by telling her that she's a good friend and I implied that I'm not interested in anything more. I wanted to see her reaction. But she said yeah that's what I think too and acted normal. After that, she has stopped going out with me, giving me the excuse that she's always busy or tired.
We talk on the phone, and text, but it's been a while since I've last seen her, and she denied that there's anything wrong when I asked her. Typical AFC-punch-myself-in-the-face level stupidity from my side; I should have just tried to kiss her anyway early on. If she wasn't interested I could have probably played it as playful or nothing a straight guy wouldn't do someway or another and it would have turned out better than this.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Oh I see what you tried to do there, I saw the "glad to be your friend" technique a few months ago and tested it to see it's use. And when it worked like a charm form me is when I had high value demonstrated to the girl before dropping the friend bomb on her. If you use it with out DHV the girl will be ok with it, thus you auto-friendzone yourself. (if you want to know more about this particular technique ask away).
Now regarding your interaction with said girl: I find a as a big ass red flag when girls have more male friends than female ones, and not because some beta thing of thinking of all those guys as competition, but rather in the psychological aspect of it, not been able to relate with your kin is deep psychological issue. (whoever wants to know or discuss more about it can also ask away)
Now lets go to the fun part, as i stated early girls with more/only male friends are not my type, but i have successfully engaged them, and the key point here is isolation, DHV, and most importantly be more forward than you normally are with girls, because they are used to be around men they get desensitized with the sex jokes advances etc, use KINO escalation and heavy eye contact for this, basic techniques yet so effective.
Before i finish i would like to add something regarding DHV: The best way of demonstrating DHV to this kind of girls is go and pick up girls when you are with her, this drives them crazy.
I'll even give you a line that used not so long ago:
This girl is a "model", and works with a lot of male photographers, and have a lot of "guy friends" that she treats like her brothers (UGH), so she is used to them always giving her attention, and inviting her to places and giving her rides.
One of this chumps is a friend of mine, and the one who introduces her to me. After a few weeks I'm already one of her friends, fuck it, i ask her to accompany to the mall to buy a present for my sister and:
Me:Do you see that girl in the blue dress?, she is pretty hot!
She: yeah she is beautiful!
Me: Wait for me here. (then I went and opened the blue dress girl HB9.5, which could be a fun FR that i might write latter)
Any way I opened and talk to 9.5 for about 5 minutes before #-closing, and returning to my "friend".
I use this example because of the ridiculous positive reaction i got from this girl after, when i returned to her she grabbed my arm and would not let go, and every time a hot girl passed by she hold on me a little tighter. F-closed the same day.
As always if anyone wants to ask or discuss or add anything i'm open for discussion.
[–]MisterMisfit 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Appreciated. I think you're spot on actually, especially that normal kino and joking around doesn't seem to have the same effect on her as other girls, she really is desensitized to it. I'll see what I can do with her now, but DHV is definitely a must with her before I can do anything.
Glad I could help mate. Be sure to PM if you want any other pointers.

There's lots of cues like this that work in groups or one on ones. One for a group of guys is to lock your hands, and put them on top of your head. If the other guys do it too, they trust/like having you around. Another one is offering someone a piece of gum, and keep holding it there till they say yes. Another one is putting your arm on their shoulder or arm, if they reciprocate, they like you.

TAKE THE GODDAMN GUM
Hahahahah! Oh man! I just had the creepiest picture in my head of some old dude trying to get a college girl in his truck by offering gum. Lmao!
[–]WiretapStudios 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The insides of the van are lined with gum, like a pedo web.

Sticky situation you could get yourself into.

If they initially refuse it, then take it on your persistence, that's a huge win. There's actually a lot going on there. One is reciprocation, you've given them something, and they're likely to feel like they should return the gesture at some point. But more important, you've started what's called a pattern of compliance. You've requested that they do something small, and they did it. Now they're in a more suggestible mood, because they don't want to conflict with the pattern of action they've already started. Its really important for people to be consistent with their actions. So you amp it up, all the way back to your rape van.
In the scenario you described, you can't rape the willing.

Don't use this, yawning is contagious, you could do it in front of your family or grandma and they'll yawn to. It's not a sign of attraction in the slightest.
[–]7or3nzo 2 points3 points4 points 13 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
That's not the point.
[–]roflharrisgun 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
but even if someone thought you were ugly and repulsive they may still yawn
[–]7or3nzo 5 points6 points7 points 13 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
But they were still looking at you.
I'm a blockhead and even I get the point. Some people.
[–]roflharrisgun 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
So are you saying that it's just a way of showing that they were looking at you, and it's the looking at you which shows attraction?
[–]7or3nzo 0 points1 point2 points 13 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yes. Yes it is.
[–]roflharrisgun 1 point2 points3 points 13 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I dunno, I look at people a lot which I'm not necessarily into

And go ahead and tie a yak tail around your belt for good luck.
Jesus, seriously? This is an old wives tale. It was even on myth busters.
Get it together, /r/seduction
