Personally...can't relate to the urge to get down on the fucking ground and ask a man to take me as his wife. If a man wants you as his wife, he's going to make that happen (or at least try).

There's definitely an argument that it's just tradition blah blah but to me it goes much deeper. All comes down to your view of who should be initiating in the relationship, and I feel that men should be initiating all big moves in the relationship.

It's sadly slowly becoming a thing within the Afro American community because most Black men don't want to get married and instead aspire to collect as many baby mammas as they can as a badge of honor.

Therefore, you see more and more Afrro American women proposing to scrotes because they're desperate to get married and they know their man is never going to wife them. Hence why that lady is dying to normalize this behavior.

Beyond that, it's more or less normalized in the AA community that men display feminine behaviors such as wanting women to chase them, take care of them (rapper ASAP Rocky said he wanted women to give him flowers), provide for them etc. While women display masculine behaviors (build a man, provide for him, defend him in his place etc).

Would I do this? Personally no. Yes is probably just tradition men proposing marriage, but the same is wearing rings. Some traditions are just nice to keep.

Besides a proposal mainly should not be a surprise, a serious relationship should have marriage as part of the conversation. Even before he proposed we should already agree that marriage is for you and that this is happening.

So he proposing is not really a surprise, both already knew this was a thing. The surprise is the ring and or the way he proposed.

And I think, if you are going to have kids (if both agreed) and bearing the pain of labor; the least a man can do is get down on his knee, and give you a nice ring.

My aunt proposed to her husband. They are the wealthiest couple in the family and have seen and done a lot together. They are also the first couple to go without domestic violence and without children present.

But he also turned out to be gay :/ it’s all so weird

I think 98% of the time the woman proposing is because the man is dragging his feet, which is makes the woman having to propose a red flag to me. That being said, I'm bisexual and have eagerly thought about how I would propose to my girlfriend if we ever got to that point so I do know it's entirely possible for a woman to want to propose to her SO (although I could never see myself realistically with a man long-term so it won't be an issue for me)

The only time I have EVER thought this was cute was on an internet post when a lady wanted to propose to her man on a leap day because of her Irish heritage. The caveat though was that he had already proposed to her a couple months before.
