When I was 25, my partner got pregnant. We were in our own home, 2 cars, slightly above the median income and I thought, quite happy with each other.

I had told my work colleagues about the expected pregnancy and one day I came in to work to find a new dad hamper on my desk. They had all come together to buy me a load of Dad stuff. I couldn't have felt happier and couldn't wait to come home and show my SO.

I knew something was wrong as soon as I got in because she wouldn't look me in the eye. When she eventually got brave enough she told me she had been to the hospital and had an abortion that day. At no point had she discussed it with me. I sat on our sofa for over an hour holding a pair of 'new daddy' socks and sobbing. We split not long after.

She did it because there was someone else. The baby could have been mine, we were still sexually active, but also could have been the other guys.

Why am I telling you all this? Because even after going through that, even after watching her have 2 kids over the following 18 months with the guy she was cheating on me with, I still fully support the right to chose.

There are a lot of men seeing this removal of a woman's rights as a win for the men. This couldn't be further from the truth.

Yes, I believe I should have had a say, yes I believe what she did was unbelievable shitty, but I believe one thing much more strongly. Someone she has never met should not be making that decision for her, especially if their justification is their imaginary friends opinion on the matter.

As for the impact on men, we all know men get the raw deal in terms of custody rights, child support payments etc. By backing this draconian law, every time a condom breaks, the pill fails, the coil doesn't fully attach etc, or two people have a stupid drunken night, both males and females in this situation could potentially have their lives forever changed because this law says so. This law takes away males rights nearly as much as females. It isnt women who should be upset by it, it should be humanity.

Also, just before the 'baby killer' crowd come in screaming, I am not advocating full term abortions, I'm talking about a clump of cells. If you cannot tell the difference between an embryo and a baby, you don't deserve an opinion in this debate.
