Pro-gun laws and divorce laws that are fair to women are highly difficult to find together in any US state. Please correct me, if anyone who knows where these places are. My experience is that it’s one or the other.

Look at the new abortion laws coming out - pro-gun states are often the more anti-women states.

Sometimes I wish I could have a gun to hide in my bedroom when I'm asleep. Seriously, living in England where you aren't even allowed to carry pepper spray is a joke. Even if you defend yourself, you're ripe for prosecution.

However I will do it, I do not care as I want to live more than anything else. I have my own sprays and weapons, you've just got to be creative if ever challenged by the police. We aren't safe.

I don’t live in the states but if I did I would definitely get a gun. I bring “coyote and dog” spray everywhere I go.

Mixed bag & tricky subject. I keep guns. My husband doesn’t fool with them. I have them for home protection mainly. Got my conceal carry license, but I don’t take one with me often, unless I’m going to be on a short road trip alone.

But I grew up in the south with guns in the house and am comfortable keeping one by the bed. I think my husband was more worried about having guns than I was, lol.

To each their own, but I think it’s obvious too many criminals and yahoos have access due to the laxity of laws. I’d prefer it if they were much harder to obtain.

This is SO true. Especially if you are living alone.

I also put some self protection in various spots in my car like pepper spray, a knife, and I even have bricks in there. You'd be surprised how easy it is for someone to grab you while you're filling up your car, etc.

You can stash things in your vehicle (lighter dumb bells, a baseball bat, etc.) that wouldn't necessarily be considered a weapon!

I live in GA and have a gun, knife and pepper spray in my bedroom. If they come in they are going down with me. Also ladies if you have a gun, please go regularly to the gun range and practice. In an emergency you need to be very comfortable using your gun.

I’m sorry, I think we should absolutely be allowed to disagree about guns. Statistically, having a gun in the home is far, far more dangerous for women and children than not having one. I’m fine with whatever other people want to do, but I’m hugely anti-gun based solely on statistics and research (with a bit of my own personal experience mixed in). If it makes you feel safer, have at it, but not all women feel this way and their feelings are absolutely backed up by research.

Yeah I have a question - what about studies that show women with guns are more likely to have it used against them, than use them against an attacker? Guns are not some magical overall answer to the problem of safety

I hate guns and at least in the US guns are thought of as this magical thing where a good guy with a gun miraculously takes out the bad guy with a gun. Women do need to take responsibility for protecting themselves but more guns is not the answer.

Does anyone know what Canada’s gun laws are like? Can I keep one at home?

I’ve been thinking about how it’d be nice to own a home but wouldn’t be safe living alone as a woman, but with rising prices in Canada I’ll probably never be able to afford a home anyway. But maybe if I moved to the states I could do that and also feel safe because they are allowed to keep a gun at home.

I find it weird how so many historically marginalized people are very anti-gun but very rarely give options for other ways to defend themselves that DO NOT involve calling the police.

That’s another reason why I found it super puzzling especially when Black women were chanting “defund the police” when men in the Black community cannot be relied on to protect the women & children.
