This poor woman is the sole breadwinner of the family AND also does majority of the childcare and household chores. She’s basically living like a single parent, plus the added stress of living with a man child whose cheating and lying to her. Unfortunate I keep seeing posts like these and hearing similar stories in real life. If a man isn’t adding to your life on anyway, he’s not worth it.

Back when I thought I wanted to be a parent but also a career woman and had optimism that a man could be a proper SAHP I figured it’d be nice to have a reliable man do the majority of the childcare, household maintenance/cleaning, and cooking while I worked. Now, this never has actually come to pass, and life experience, anecdotal evidence, and actual research have changed my mind. SAHDs do not do as good a job as SAHMs on average and put in significantly less effort on average. They are also the demographic with the highest chance of cheating. So basically, they’ll do a half-assed job of everything and cheat on you while you support them entirely. Absolutely horrid.

My coworkers pull double shifts with a baby cam on their phone and calls their partner to tell him to go check on the baby that’s been screaming for an hour, then complains to me how their other kid was eating the dog food because the man wouldn’t stop playing video games long enough to feed her, and another one let the pool completely overflow and flood their yard when she warned him to watch it after she left for work and I just don’t gettt ittttt. Similar scenarios have popped up time and time again on this page. Stay at home dads are more likely to cheat than any other combo and they are notorious for not doing fuck all around the house. I’ve met MULTIPLE women with “SAHD” husbands who end up doing ALL the childcare, housekeeping and cooking on top of working. Men (by and large, there is an occasional exception) aren’t dedicated to their families the same way women are. Male honor is a myth.

My cousin is a SAHD and he’s an absolutely amazing partner and father. Here’s the thing though - he was the breadwinner while his wife was getting her medical degree, working as an engineer, and during her residency, and everything else. She makes crazy surgeon money now so it made sense for him to stay home. I don’t think he plans to forever, but they have two under two right now.

All of this as a gentle reminder that at the end of the day your man needs to support you - and that can take different forms through the course of your life. Beware the SAHD that isn’t capable of much else.
