How do you mentally cope with long term support payments? 20+ year marriage. Married young so I’m still in my mid 40’s, which isn’t young. In sales so my income varies every year. One year might be 220k the next might be 300k. Ave 245k last 4 years, the best years of my career. Looking at a 3k-5k per mo support payment for the next 9 years. She obviously feels she is entitled to the highest amount. It makes me sick to think about it. I’m pulling the trigger on the divorce. Just tired of feeling like I’m a trapped, but still feel trapped with all I am paying, plus the asset split. She makes 60-70k, which is a solid living, especially since both kids over 18. I’m taking on most debt, releasing my portion of home equity and she is getting a nice sum of cash. All to minimize my monthly payment. Its all mentally exhausting.
