The focus is really on my mother and making her feel special now that we’re getting older and the kids are too my ex and I do not exchange anything. Only if the kids request some thing unique and they need help with it but that would be the only situation. Hope that helps.

I take the kids to the store and they pick out a card and a gift of their choosing. I try to be out of there under 40 bucks but it doesn't always work. I drop the kids off with their little gift bag and we never speak of it again.

YOU don't do anything for her. But you definitely help your child do something for her. And IMO, you do it even if she doesn't help your child do it for you on Father's Day. Because it's about helping your child recognize their parent. And your child will remember you doing those kinds of things for them. They'll also recognize the lack of help from the other side it it goes that way.

My EX won't accept anything from me.. at all. And I really have no desire to buy her anything either. But. Our kids are a different story. So, I talk with them about what they think mommy would like to get for her birthday or mother's day etc. Then I purchase and wrap the gift for them, and they give it to their mom.

Not much input in regards to the specifics, but my former mother in law was great to me and the first Mother’s Day after my divorce I let her know so. She was appreciative (not that I expected her to not be), but that’s the last words we ever spoke to each other and it kinda sucks.
