I would argue feminine men and feminine women would make a great couple. Dressing up nice together. Eating cute little tapas, having a fruity drink. Gossiping and getting all the details. Cleaning. Smelling good, showering. Maybe doing self care and pampering. Attentive sex with each other in focus.

Yes, but I think this is because as we age, we tend to dilute these two things down and combine them a lot so that we're all more a mixed basket of gender tendencies and at most we could be said to lean to one side.

I think of it like politics. Most 20 year olds are staunchly progressive or conservative if they care at all. By the time you're 35, you probably have a variety of positions and would be best described as "leaning left or leaning right".

I don't think you can underrate how much of relationships not working out is just down to youthful folly, self discovery, and young people being dramatic and over the top in their tendencies. Like, they can't just enjoy cookies. They have to be the cookie monster. They can't just be a dude, they've gotta be a tit slapping manly man. They can't just be a broad. They've gotta be a high heel mini dress babe with nails to their ears.

There does not need to be a balance - there has to be equity. And it depends on what you mean by “masculine” and “feminine” - what does masculine mean to you? What does feminine? Are those intrinsic or social constructs?

In my home I do the stereotypically “masculine” things like build furniture, make more money, take my man on dates but also clean the home, cook our food, take on emotional labor, am caring and empathetic, dress more femme most of the time, etc. However he is the most masculine man I have ever been with because he is so secure in his masculinity that it isn’t fragile. He will cry with me and apologize when he’s wrong and doesn’t get angry (except for at football, like I do,) and is amazing in bed and was called gay as a teen and sings off key to songs he doesn’t know the words to and is a DM and plays video games and pays the mortgage and mows the lawn.

There is no such thing as masculine or feminine. Just the social construct of what is expected. But it’s all made up and completely pointless. Find someone who makes you happy. Find someone you’re compatible with. Find someone with a similar lifestyle, morals, goals and ambitions as you. Find someone who picks up the slack where you are lacking but also lacks what you excel at. Just go be happy. And stop worrying what “should” be.

The guy must still be less feminine than the woman though, and she has to be inexperienced, or he'll still lose to the alpha widow. I actually think it is the best dynamic for feminine men when everything checks though. This is why a lot of guys go overseas to great success after struggling with the masculine women of the west. The more masculine and experienced the woman, then the more problems you're going to have, and she'll never go for you until maybe she's older, desperate, and ready to settle. Even then, she might get a long with you, but she'll never respect or desire you.

aside from attracting the opposite of whatever it is you're occupying the most (be it the yin or the yang), it's different for men and women. as a woman i don't want a man who is feminine. but men don't really care, so long as you're not more masculine than they are. they generally have more room for compromise than women do. i've been through a lot in life that masculinized me so i've also attempted to become more feminine so as to make my pool expand, due to how difficult it is to find someone who is more masculine and the frequency in which i attract feminine men.

Why does the sub often define things and absolutes? Very few people are 100% masculine or 100% feminine. In a healthy relationship you balance each other out. Yin and yang. It depends on the situation and the circumstance.

Relationships are about balance. One is weak when the other is strong and vice versa. No one is weak or strong all the time.

Depends on the factors that we are talking about. Just making an assumption that two men with both masculine and feminine traits, are not going to have the same division of gendered traits.

Then you factor in who you are dating, the compatibility might boil down to specifically what is masculine and feminine about you.

My wife would come across as very feminine on the surface, and I suppose she is. But she below the surface has a lot of masculine traits. Same for me, I actually come across as somewhat feminine on the surface, but have a bunch of very masculine traits. We are very compatible, because these traits don't always collide.

Yet sometimes they have, and we have to talk it out and realise how to navigate those waters.

It's less common with straight couples but it's not rare at all.

Super common with gay/bi. About half of the successful gay marriages/long term couples I know both of partners are almost the same level of masculinity/femininity and have almost the same manifestations of those traits.

As an aside all the successful couples I know regardless of demographics have tons of interests and hobbies in common.

I can't think of a single couple I've known where he was obsessed with the violin and she was obsessed with boats and they had nothing in common but the romance where it worked out. Every couple I've ever seen where they had their completely separate passions and interests didn't last longer than a year or two.

As a man with an unusually high amount of "feminine energy" I tend to turn off a lot of women because they think I am weak or a push over so get shit tested a lot and a lot of women push my boundaries to make sure I have them.

I don't always pass these tests and it can be annoying when I fail and Insee the ick in their eyes. Having a high amount of energy in the opposite direction of your gender can be an inpediment but not always a deal breaker.
