This girl took off my glasses and said that I looked better without them on. I replied saying that she looked better too when I wasn't wearing my glasses. That didn't work out too well and in hindsight it came across as more of an insult than a playful comment.

The thing about negs is that you're playing with a girl's insecurity a bit, and that's dangerous territory. I think the trick is to stay away from things they are sincerely very insecure about. And that's pretty much everything related to physical appearance for most girls. Weight especially, even with skinny girls. I think it's far more effective to neg girls about things they are actually good at. So, more behaviors than looks. She might feel defensive, but what's behind that is confidence not some deep-seated insecurity, and that confidence makes her want to prove herself in a good way rather than crawl in a hole and die.

Honestly, and this comes from years in sales and studying how to build rapport with people. It's 10 percent what you say and 90 percent how you say it. If you are funny about it you can get away with saying just about anything.

I learned never to tease a girl about looking tired. I was doing pretty well until I teased her about that - I knew she was meant to have been out on the town the night before, as I had, so I was looking to build some rapport and start up a conversation about her night.

She didn't end up going out the night before, and actually went to bed early, so I basically said she looked like crap, indirectly. So yeah, that didn't go over well.

I'm not into negging specifically, but I do have some third rails when talking to women, at least not until date 10 or so. I never bring up rape or molestation of any kind, because 1 in 3 women (!) have been. I also never talk about abortion, child abuse, eating disorders, cutting, or really anything very dark. I love dark humor, but I don't dish it out with people unless we've been friends for months and months.

More than that, I want the people I meet to associate me with good thoughts, good experiences, and good memories, so I ask them about those things. I want my face to remind them of the time they went to Mazatlan with four other graduating seniors and had a blast. I want a women to think about the sunset in Greece when she holds my hand. I definitely don't want her to associate my laugh with abortion, even if she's a connoisseur of dead baby jokes.

I read about this in The Game and switching between saying "up" or "down" depending on the girl's hair style, so I decided to give it a shot back in February, on my first ever attempt on pickup after reading some literature. I used this neg and other material word for word because of how new I was to the concept. This was before I even knew about Seddit.

During the first set I employed it, the girl reacted by chuckling, looking at the rest of her friends, then saying, "Well, my hair is too short to put up." Shit! Then I made a note to only use it with girls who have long hair, haha.

The other set from that night when I used that same neg turned out to be my worst crash and burn ever. After opening and getting a couple of laughs, I thought it was time to select a target and neg her. The girl just stared at me, clearly upset. Her friends were the ones that blew me out, one yelling at me, "You were doing so well; why would you say that?" The other one just said, "BYE," and proceeded to push me away from the group. At least I managed to stand my ground and say goodbye and that it was a pleasure meeting them, although I think I should have apologized along the lines of, "I am sorry and only meant to find your boundaries, not cross them," etc.

After going over the play-by-play with a couple of friends, they helped me agree that perhaps one can only use that neg in a situation when a girl's hair is up and he suggests that it would look better down. But I honestly have stayed away from mentioning hair completely since that night.

From my experience this is what I no longer neg. Their work place or university/college. You can joke about their profession or what they are studying but never the establishment. I also never neg smoking or drinking. I used to call them "a dirty dirty smoker" with a huge grin on my face and that never really got me any bonus points. In fact any bad habits should be left alone. Don't fuck with their clothes either. Women spend a lot of time getting ready and making sure they look perfect. Same goes for perfume. Don't neg her friends either. Funny story: I was dating a girl who was on a skinny side and I jokingly called her a fatty once after she ate my dinner. Fucking shit storm followed. I guess weight is also a no no even if they are being blown off by a gust of wind.

I used to say to one of my roommate's girlfriend that wanted us all to go to the bar and said the waitresses have big boobs to try to convince us. The thing is, she had small boobs and I said that boob size didnt matter and she was the perfect example.

A self-conscious trait, like a bad hair day, bad-looking feet, etc.

From personal experience, from both myself and things my friends have done, try and get a feel for what kind of girl she is. I.e. if she is insecure (check body language) do not neg anything vaguely harsh or you could utterly shatter her self esteem. Friend of mine did this once and tears were shed, he was slapped by her friend. Not cool.

Don't neg on things that are really wrong with them. I accidentally negged the chick in my sort-of FR on her being an insomniac. Wasn't a good idea; no serious backlash, but it could've gone wrong if she'd taken it as mor ethan an almost unnoticed sidenote.
