After living for a bit, I've figured out, people's best match in the dating world are people in the same (or very similar) professions as themselves. Note: There's a huge caveat to this though:

You must be a grown a\* adult, meaning you have a developed an identity and know your likes/dislikes, which means you chose your profession based on what you are passionate about.*

Think about it:

  • Successful actors tend to date other actresses
  • Successful musicians tend to date other musicians or art industry
  • Successful physical trainers tend to date other athletes
  • Successful lawyers date other lawyers

Why?

  • Let's say you chose finance as a career, well obviously a big value for you is money. You are very money motivated, otherwise you wouldn't have chose that career. No social worker (who's value is helping others and putting others first) will want to date you because of the value mismatch. Social workers don't care about money that much, otherwise they would have gone into finance.
  • Let's say you chose law as a career, well obviously a big value for you is desire for power/control as well as being right, because you have to be right to win in court. No one who doesn't value being right/power wants to date you or will understand why you do things you do. That's why you see a couple like Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton last, even through infidelity, because they understand each other well.
  • Let's say you are a musician. Well obviously you value feeling your emotions and full expression of who you are. You wouldn't match with an engineer as they are very logical, rule based, and don't value thinking in emotional terms.
  • Let's say you are a physical trainer. Obviously you value health and wellness. You wouldn't be able to get a long with someone who doesn't eat healthy, exercise, sits on the couch every day etc.. You'd only fit someone who also works in the health and wellness and athletics industry.
  • Influencers date other influencers because they value that external attention / doing things for attention, even if it may come at a cost to the world around them. A lot of people would find that a turn off.
  • The list goes on.

People choose their professions based on their values - and those who are ambitious about there profession, will embody those values. So dating simplified: Date or find someone in your profession or close to it. For the rest of you that work because it's just a job and paycheck, this doesn't apply to you.
