When you're young, the 'average' is attractive. Most young people haven't gotten fat yet, their bad habits haven't caught up with them, they haven't been beaten down by life. All young healthy people are attractive unless they really lost the genetic lottery, or have bad hygiene or something.

I was actually talking about this with a coworker. Photofeeler (like reddit in a way) crowd-sources your analysis. So you cannot assume/trust the analysis as much as you would say, an internal written algorithm by your senior technical staff that has been QC tested in aggregate and proven to work over a definitive time frame.

So in essence, do this 1,000,000 more times more specifically. Then come back and show us the results.

I'd say he's slightly above average for his age group. (But above average for all age groups because most people get uglier as they age.) People underestimate the number of ugly people out there. Just look at a yearbook sometime. There are plenty of goofy looking people.

And, second, I think photofeeler is composed of grandmas telling kids "how handsome they are". Just kidding. I actually think it's a lot of people who don't want to disappoint other people, so they are charitable with their estimates because they want to be encouraging.

Photofeeler is not always a good thing to rely on 100%. There are other things to work on as well.

Limited to Photos Only While there are different lenses you can narrow your focus on (professional i.e. Linkedin, dating profiles etc.) on Photofeeler, it does not offer personalized feedback on your app choices, bio, messages, captions, etc. Good photos can only take you so far and plenty of folks self-sabotage their chances through app choice, photo order, bios, messaging etc.

Location Bias This can lead to inflated scores. There are more people in big cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and San Francisco etc. and your photos will be reviewed and scored by all including smaller towns with possibly lesser differentiating expectations. Not to say there are not attractive people outside of larger cities but you should be judging yourself against people you are interested in meeting.

Selection Bias Most people on Photofeeler are coming from a position of needing help themselves. Many are new to dating sites, others have been on dating sites for years without success. If you needed help with your 3pt shot would you ask Klay Thompson or would you ask people coming off the bench from the Knicks? Know your sources. Either way, there is more to you than just photos and you need to have context in terms of your lifestyle so you can not only get feedback on photos but understand where you can improve.

Context Some photos will do better on an app like Tinder vs an app like Coffee Meets Bagel. Whether you are on the fast track for a long-term relationship or looking for something casual, it is important you know how to market yourself and understand what your photos signal.

If you look at this post as a white person, 7.9 seems kind of high. But, if you remember that 😲 there are people other than white people in this world 😮 ... then, you start including all the Asian and Latina girls who give a “white premium,” and the 7.9 starts to make a “bit” more sense.

At the end of the day, though, it’s a sample size of 20, representing what total population? It could just be that the women who rated him happened to rate him high within that small random sample of 20. Also, when was this picture posted, what kind of girls go to that website, etc. Far from solid statistical research methods, so ... that also plays a role.
