So I was reading a book called Boys: What it means to become a man by Rachel Giese. the book explores the male gender role and how it could be improved. she's a lesbian woman and that elicits a spontaneous question: what makes her expert on the topic of masculinity? I'm not saying being a lesbian woman prevents you to discuss about this particular topic (and I found many other instances of women talking of masculinity) but if a man writes a book about women with advices or with prescrictives contents (other than "How to attract a good husband"), he would be criticized for venturing into a subject he's not supposed to lecture anyone about. The only motivations I can think of for this double standard are: 1) women are better than men and men should become more like women so it's perfectly reasonable for women to give men advices on how to behave. 2) men hold istitutional power therefore they are not supposed to talk about "oppressed groups" because that's bad mmmkay.

any other reasons?
