A SAHM’s estimated value is $100,000 per year in today’s money.

A look back: A SAHM is forgoing a career and living essentially in isolation until the hubby gets home since children don’t exactly have stimulating conversation skills. Her job doesn’t end when the husband gets home and is expected to cook, clean, and watch the children while dad has a nightcap and watches the game.

Yet despite the enormity of her duties she’s expected to have less of a voice in the relationship than him since he’s “breadwinner.” She must depend on him for money and all other necessities. He gets to be “head of household”. He gets control of the property and has all the leverage in the relationship.

If men really respected SAHM they would be giving her an equal seat at the table and completely equal access to all resources financial or otherwise. That was never the case.

With feminism and women having choice in their lives many chose not to be SAHMs precisely for these reasons. The SAHM is still a choice for those financially well off enough to do so but they’re expected to be submissive even though they have a longer work day and just as often harder.

The disrespect women faced helped create feminism.
