In a vaccuum where the only difference between men was their height, women would choose taller men.

So the answer is yes, women prefer taller men but may choose shorter men for a host of reasons that may matter far more than height.

Same thing with "do men prefer younger or older women."

In a vaccuum, yes men would always choose the 18 year old over the 40 year old. But, other factors cause them to choose older women.

For the purposes of men, it means if you are short you have to work harder to get female attention. But you can still get it, just takes more work.

I’m close to 6’6” and my height has always been an advantage. “You’re sooooooo tall” is something I hear frequently and I notice a lot of IOIs when I’m out and about. It’s the male equivalent of having a nice rack.

But much like my flat-chested female friends, none of my short guy friends are single. They’re all happily partnered to women who love them. Yes, they’re all taller than their wives or girlfriends, but that’s to be expected.

What all but one of the couples have in common, however, is that they met offline. Online dating is almost pointless for short men. Women can and do filter for height. Offline meets allow for facial attractiveness, sense of humor, etc to serve as alternate advantages to above average height.

Yes, they do. But first, we have to understand the precedent as to how and why they care. For starters, there's no real correlation between a woman's attractiveness and openness to dating shorter guys. Both very attractive and less attractive women have similar rates in being open to dating shorter guys.

If women were conditioned to see short men as sexy, they would find more of them sexy. What we're attracted to is directly correlated with what we're exposed to. When we portray shorter guys in a more positive light, we'll get more generations of women that'll manifest attraction towards shorter guys.

Imagine if society portrayed short men like this on a constant basis.

Pay attention to the positive feedback. Especially the women praising her and reminiscing in her excitement. They are on her side because they are conforming to her as the epicenter of the situation. If this trope were replicated more often, notably in the media, many women would find it legitimately interesting to date shorter guys. Like the women are fervently expressing here.

Now for the investigative ones, you'll see an old retweet from Tall Glass,

This is why you have to understand heightism from a nuanced perspective and how pervasive it is. You know without a doubt that she likes shorter guys. However, what does her retweet suggest? It tells you that even though she's the furthest away from not dating someone because of their height, (patently expressed by her happiness in the relationship) heightism still affects how she perceives and interacts with situations regarding height. She doesn't see this action as a direct negative but more as a means of offloading internalized mental stress that she deals with on probably a daily basis with people yelling Tall Girl Tropes at her all day like "Do you play basketball?" "How's the weather up there?" Etc.

Things truly can get better for shorter people. We just need better and more positive representation.

If I had to guess I'd say majority of women would be okay with a guy around the average Male height, but would prefer taller than that, a minority refuse to date guys below 6 foot and an even smaller minority dont care about height at all.

Some women are height conscious; some are less height conscious. Some men have very specific standards for body type preferences in women, some women have very specific standards for body type preferences in men.

I would guess that there are very few women who would walk away from an otherwise excellent match over a man's being, say, one or two inches shorter than them. Especially as women get taller and the likelihood that they will encounter (relatively) shorter men increases, a small height difference favoring the woman's height is usually not an issue. Some women care more about height because of their own body image concerns, some women care less about height because of lower body-consciousness. Some women care more about height in their partner as a sociocultural status symbol the same way that some men care more about how 36-24-36-proportioned their partner is as a sociocultural status symbol.

Do women care about height in dating?

Sure, some of them a lot, some of them very little, some fit somewhere in the middle, drunk people aren't necessarily 'more honest' but they generally think more highly of their own sense of humor and ability to communicate nuance than is strictly accurate and '6'0''+ or gtfo' is practically a meme at this point.

Yes the vast majority care, the only question is how much. Most women are pretty set on wanting a man who is taller than them at least, however it is not as extreme as only dating over 6ft guys irl or whatever. Similar to dick size, women can tell if it's big or small but the vast majority of people can't guess the exact size of a man in feet and inches just by looking at him, unless he is very similar to them in height, and they tend to guess over the actual size rather than under.

Additionally while height matters and can most definitely be a dealbreaker, it is far from the only aspect that makes a man attractive. Short guys with good looks and charisma/game can increase their dating pool regardless, though in general they will do best with women who are shorter than them.

I have gone on dates with men shorter than myself (I'm 6'00"). If he's my height or only a little shorter, I'm willing to make an exception, but he has to compensate for it in other ways (an amazing personality for example).

The annoying thing is when men lie about their height (online dating), and they think I won't notice when they only come up to my chin.

No one wants to be deceived by outdated photos, or short men that think they can get away with that shit.

It's hilarious how salty twerps get over the height thing. No one can control their height, but it feels so much better to be with someone I can at least look in the eye.

Height matters for men, WHR matters for women.
